police say the driver accidentally floored it. went right into the pond. >> anchor: tonight she is back on dry land and recovering. alex del prado in arlington with a closer look at what happened. >> reporter: that woman went down lynwood street. pressed the wrong pedals and went into spry pond. there are crews trying to get her car out of here. bystanders screamed as it jumped in to save the woman. >> you got to come out. >> reporter: dramatic moments in arlington after a woman accidentally drives her ford suv into spy pond. >> i lost her. >> reporter: 3 good samaritans jumped in. one opened the door. another pulled the 68-year-old woman from the vehicle. >> they got her out. they didn't see anybody else. >> reporter: their efforts

we're crediting them with helping save this woman's life. >> reporter: police and fire officials were on scene moments later. took the woman to the hospital with mild hypothermia. >> the brief interview we had before she was transported. driver error there. a mistake between the brake and the gas what have you. >> reporter: dozens watched the divers and grateful for the efforts of the good samaritans. >> i was helpful also that a it's nice to see. >> reporter: dive teams are still here trying to get that vehicle out of spy pond. they're having trouble because the pond is deep and it's also dark now. that woman remains in the hospital with mild hypothermia. i'm alex del prado 7 news. >> anchor: a former baby sitter pleading guilty to abducting and

on the side of the road in raleigh with her head shaved. >> reporter: pled guilty to kidnapping and torturing a 2-year-old girl. >> i have seen the way this has traumatized my family and loved ones. and can't begin to think of the devastation and trauma for the victim's family. >> reporter: police say last november hannah kidnapped the toddler from the home in the middle of the night. burned her with cigarettes and left her naked on the side of the road. 8 miles from the girl's home in south hamilton. >> a day does not go by that this does not weigh heavily on my heart. my thoughts and prayers are with the family with the hope that they will expand healing and that the girls have happy and healthy lives.

candlelight vigil this evening as those 2 boston officers continue to recover at the hospital. 2 sleepless nights since the incident out here on wednesday evening. he's been able to get through with the support and love from the community. this was thrown together in the last second. a number of community members came out here started the vigil a few blocks away. and walked by where this shooting happened to the shrine that i spoke with a neighbor who lives houses down from where this happened. his brother was a police officer in swansy and killed a decade ago. >> that night when i first heard the reports of a police officer had been shot i relived the night i got the phone call for my brother. it's a terrible thing to go through. i don't wish it on anybody. these men and women in blue get

reality. so for us as a community to come out and support these people it's the least we can do. they're the first ones to run for trouble when we're in trouble they come for us without regards for their own life. >> reporter: certainly an emotional night out here. as for the investigation still more questions than answers. they have opened up that home. the crime scene has been processed by the crime scene investigators. ask the commissioner if they have any additional inclination as to why that man opened fire on the officers. still too early to tell when it comes to a motive. tim caputo 7 news. >> anchor: detectives are focusing on the gunman's past and the days before the shooting. byron barnett has more on that part of the investigation. >> reporter: investigators still on the scene removing several

boston home where 2 boston police officers were critically wounded wednesday night. back in surgery today. the 2 veteran officers trying to recover from being shot multiple times. >> they're still listed as critical to fair condition. every day you get away from the incident is another positive step. >> reporter: gun fire inside the home on gladstone street. 2 roommates arguing over thermostat. one claimed the other pulled out a knife. when officers went inside 33-year-old kirk figgeroa wearing a bullet proof vest opened fire on centola and morris. >> i spoke to the commissioner this morning. we had a complicated conversation trying to figure out what exactly could have been a motive. where this man was coming from. that hasn't been established yet. >> reporter: described as some

>> anchor: an investigation uncovers a medical mix up at st. vincents hosp documents revealing a kidney was transplanted to the wrong patient. >> anchor: this happened in july. a new report is shedding light on this case. amaka ubaka with an update you saw first on 7. >> reporter: being reprimanded after 7 news first reported a surgeon there removed a kidney from the wrong patient in july. now a new report from the massachusetts department of

to remove a left kidney from one patient was based on the test results of a different patient. the mix up happened with 2 patients who had the same name and ct scans on the same day. the birth dates were a few years apart. the hospital was forced to adopt a plan. the hospital will have to reinforce the need for 2 patient identifiers. review information technology and correct imaging needed for surgery. tenant health which owns st. vincent hospital says we are working to implement safe guards. this was a deeply unfortunate situation and we will take all steps necessary to prevent it from happening again. the department of health says they will continue to monitor the hospital through unannounced inspections to make sure they're complying with the new plan.
