can see police and workers continuing to stand by there at the scene. you might be able to make out some of the ladders that they have brought down foot trench there. they spend some time trying to shore up the walls and make sure it's safe for those involved in the recovery effort. let's show you the view from sky 7 earlier when the water had rushed into a trench where the men were working we're told that trench about 12 feet deep. there were more than two workers in there according to the chief but some of them got out, two of them ground video we shot near that time. witnesses describe a frantic scene as the workers rushed first away from the rushing water and then back to try to get their co-workers out of there. some of them said to have been tran particularly trying to pull up plates to get workers out. the commissioner described as best he could at this time with little detail exactly what happened. it looked like somehow a

unfortunately they weren't able to get themselves out of the hole. this is like 20 feet deep down there? the fire said about 12 to 15 feet deep. the two people are still down there? ever source shut the power off. it appears continue a rescue operation. a recovery operation you should say to get these two people out. it's sad. construction is a dangerous field. the recovery effort continuing here and also the water and the streets are shut off in the area for the timing they will continue to be that way. we continue to watch both recovery and investigation here because we're told not only are police and fire he but also federal workplace investigators as well. but the time they are spending now has been to get debris out, get the water out and try to get to the men who apparently have lost lives while working on a private construction site here

dan hausle, 7 news. >> anchor: all right, dan. a viewer sent this video to 7 of the moments when that hole started to fill with water. water flooded the street and then things went from bad to worse. 7's tim caputo continues our coverage. he has some eyewitness accounts of what happened. tim? that's right. as you can imagine because it is the south end there were an awful lot of people around when this all happened. some walking the streets, some working nearby and they all said the same thing that it happened oh so quickly. people on these busy south end streets say it all happened in a matter of seconds. the first thing i saw was a bunch of water gushing real quick coming toward the middle of the street. but witnesses realized this was more than just your average watermain break. water was spurting out of the ground and we could see the workers kind of running around in a panic, all of them like trying to get help. some of the workers were able to get out of the 12 foot deep trench on dartmouth street.

then based on the response and the way the workers appeared when they left here, you could tell that something is really wrong. officials say two workers died in the trench. in the minutes and hours that followed many on these packed streets watched as workers consoled each other after this tragic work accident. it's term. you know, that you had to work so hard in these accidents have to happen. >> reporter: live you are looking at the intersecretary of tremont and dartmouth. you see the emergency vehicles still there. this intersection and many of the intersessions around it are still shut down of i know we have mentioned it before but it is worth reiterating this area will remain shut down for vehicles well into the evening hours. that's the latest live from boston's south end neighborhood, tim caputo, 7 news. >> anchor: the accident impacting traffic of course people being advised to avoid

let's go to matt fitzgerald for what he knows about what's happening with this involving the friday commute. matt, what you can tell. as you know the accident happened on dartmouth street near dedham street in the south end. as far as closures in the area go dartmouth street is expected to be closed through the evening commute from tremont street to warren streets. you went to try to avoid the south end all together if at all possible and because dartmouth street is closed we're seeing gridlock on the grounding street. you want it avoid tremont and washington street. tremont street almost back toward downtown. you also want it avoid and harrison avenue. right now your best bet is to take mass avenue to avoid gridlock in the south end. at mat fitzgerald, 7 news. >> anchor: we're also learning more about this construction company where the two victims worked. alex deprado is live h roslindale where the company is based. atlantic strayed halves is a family company. they are here on hyde park avenue in roslindale. they just shut down for the day. we have some video from a little

couple of sprinkles. there are showers over here on the south shore working up the south shore into the city and then eventually the north shore but a big batch of rain and you notice yellow and red right there just not of the pike up toward 290 and 85 going into hudson. those locations, that's where we have downpours of tropical moisture working into southern new england this evening and overnight tonight from a storm system that still is way over here across western new york and pennsylvania midnight then it will shut down then the storm will kind of wallop us with a another batch of rain through the middle part of tomorrow. after that moves through, then it is about the wind tomorrow evening and through the day on sunday. winds will be feisty, quite feisty, gusting over 30 miles per hour late tomorrow afternoon and perhaps gusting between 40 and 45 miles per hour on sunday. we'll talk more about that and the rest of your weekend forecast in a few minutes. >> anchor: also on 7, a man

assaulting in lawrence ordered held without bail. he is accused of kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old. as she was walking to school. today some new accusations, a second alleged victim coming forward. steve cooper is live in lawrence with that story. steve? jonathan, really disturbing allegations that have outraged everyone here in lawrence including the mayor and today here at the courthouse that suspect faced a judge but he also faced additional charges when as you mentioned another victim came forward 21-year-old angel mateo doing best to steer clear of the cameras in court during his arate on charges of kidnapping and rape of a child. what's your reaction to what happened to that 13 yearly girl? i amic about it. >> reporter: prosecutors say he grabbed the 13-year-old girl while she was walking to school yesterday morning and sexually assaulted her in his apartment. mateo told police he met the girl earlier on the week in social media and thought he was 18. police tracked him down because

arrest on disseminated obscene material back in april. the give has to be out of his mind. to do something like that. prosecutors added new charges during the arraignment after a woman came forward last night identifying mateo as the man she said tried to rape her back in may outside his lawrence apartment. young man that obviously is enticing women. >> reporter: the mayor now wants everyone in the city wearing those gps trng bracelets checked out. if you look at the paperwork on this gentleman you look at the list that got him into the ankle bracelet i am not sure was it a good idea to release him to a house within spitting distance of a school. for now extra police are in place outside the school complex so everyone feels safe. you have to make sure your children know what's going on and love them and pick them up. he is being held without bail and returns to the courthouse here for a

within months later noticed a problem. she said her new ice box was a little bit too icy. it was actually icicles dripping down forming. she called tobin brigid air and they immediately sent out a technician. he said that the door needed to be replaced and the thermostat, temperature gauge needed to be replaced. frozen frustration more repairmen were sent, more replacement parts installed but lori says her ridge fridge was still stuck in the ice age. they said it's we'll replace it. i said well i want my money back and they said we want do that. there ary's replacement was delivered and installed but after a few months the icy inconvenience returned. she says the second refrigerator started having the same problems as the first and that frigid air still refused to refund her money. instead sending they are a third refrigerator. five months later started icing up again. third same problem. fed up with getting the freeze

thunderstorms moving through canton, providence county and rhode island. that has since lost the lightning but held on to quite a few raindrops and so we've got a big bag of rain working up across the pike up to 495 corridor, the worst her hills, middlesex county, city of boston not so much, kind of avoiding this big old bag of rain here and as we look farther south more rain trying to clip the south shore. most of us is over the fish. i think boston down route 3 up route 395 up into essex more intermittent but back into metrowest the worcester hills will be widespread rain. get the rain gear ready because again for some of you it's downpours for others it's that nuisance drizzle and mist but for everyone it's not cold, it's not raw. sometimes our october rainstorms these numbers will be down into the 40's but not the case. somewhat humid with temperatures in the 60's. from this storm system here, now it's way out there but it has such a reach that it's grabbing

yanking it up into new england this evening. so that's why we'll have the showers and the downpours which eventually will wind down around midnight tonight and then i think after midnight tonight we'll have a lot of clouds but not much in the way of rain and that's how we start saturday so the kids soccer games during the morning hours not much in the way of rain but again whatever you get tonight on those soccer fields there still may be large puddles out there. then as we step into the afternoon i do think there is going to be a second band of rain that works up into new england t little unusual to have cold fronts come at us from hartford and bridgeport. that's what happens tomorrow afternoon of the amount of rainfall on the way with this weather system, it looks like a lot of it is focused back into the worcester hills, half an inch to perhaps as much as an inch of rain and then farther east toward the city of boston the south shore quarter to half an inch of rain from that storm system right there there goes the cold front. look at this. yes, some snow showers and ski country.

to safety concerns at the scene of the accident. dan house has been covering the story for us for quite some time now in the south end. you have the latest for us, dan? what's going on? under light rain the slow, meticulous recovery earth continues behind me. you can see workers around a blue truck that was just brought in this is a large, modern, powerful vacuum truck. in fact, we can hear it powering up now as they put the hoes down into the hole apparently to still ge debris out of that hole that flooded sending two men to their death. let's show you video from sky 7 shot earlier today. you can get a look at the trench we're told it's about 12 feet deep, several workers were inside the trench when apparently a watermain broke filling the trench with water. some workers were able to get out, two workers weren't. witnesses tell us it was a frantic scene, first they see
