them in the trench there first rushed away with the water then back to the scene to try to get their co-workers out from the trench. department of public works crews came in, tried to shut off the water at multiple gates around the area. they finally got that water shut off but it was too late for the men down to the trench and now there there was a several hours effort to get them out. it looks like somehow a pipe must have break and unfortunately they weren't able to get se this is like 20 feet deep down there? the fire said about 12 to 15 feet deep. the two people are still down there? i ever source shut the power off, shut the water off and now it appears continue a rescue operation. a recovery operation i should say to get these to people out. it's sad. construction is a dangerous field.

>> reporter: water was spurting out of the ground and we could see the workers kind of are youing around and in a panic all of them like trying to get help in two men were trapped inside the trench as water filled the hole. the first thing i saw was a bunch of water did youing real quick copping toward the middle of the street. some workers were able to get out of the 12 foot deep trend on dartmouth street. some guys came out wet and then based the way the workers appeared when they left here, you can tell that something is really wrong. officials say two workers died in the trench in the minutes and hours that followed many on these packed streets watched as the workers consoled each other after this tragic work accident. it's terrible. you know? that you have to work so hard and these accidents have to happen. i mean, it shouldn't happen to nobody. >> anchor: with the exception

pennsylvania heading for new england late tonight and through the day tomorrow. the city of boston lighter rain, the steadier rainfall has been focused through metrowest and the 495 corridor and into the worcester hills for the last several hours. in fact, there may be localized street flooding in worcester county. i know it's weird to hear with a drought but the leaves are clogging storm drains and this is a brief shot of steady rainfall so be mindful of that out and about closer to boston again just lighter intermittent rain for the next several ho winds up, gets its act together and moves through new england during the day tomorrow. how much rain is on the way. i think about an inch, perhaps as much as two inches of rain in the worcester hills. lighteralities of rain north and south shore as well as the city of boston. rain will taper off tomorrow afternoon and then from that point it becomes about the wind of we will talk more about that and the rest of your forecast in a few minutes. >> anchor: a young boy shot by a stray bullet back home in chelsea tonight and showing off some of those scars.

kimberly bookman is live for news chelsea right now with all all of the updates. kimberly. any moment now we are expecting police and city officials out here at the shooting scene. they are expected to talk to the family about the safety and security. this is a family right now that is scared for their lives. the bull set right up here. >> reporter: lifting up his shirt juan lopez dell gato reveals where a stray bullet tore through his skin and lodged into his left shoulder. it felt horrible. i just felt l burning you. the 13-year-old says he was sitting on his bed waving tv wednesday night when he heard gun shots ring out at neighboring boston park. he says several bullets struck his chelsea home then one burst threw the hole in his bedroom, ripped a hole in his pillow and hit him. i got up because i fell at the moment and i ran to my mom's room and i fainted. >> reporter: the people in the park took off, brought police say a witness i d'd the shooter as christian garcia of everett.

in court paperwork there is a claim that garcia had a problem with someone in the area and threatened on social media to shoot up a house. people can't even be safe in their own house. it's crazy like why are you going to shoot in a park for? it don't make sense. that's a kid's play ground. just let it be. arraigned friday the prosecutor said detectives found shell casings in garcia's clothing that match the gun use in the shooting. in the meantime the bull struck juan is still in his and trying to get back movement grateful he survived the violence. just thank god i am still here. he gave me another chance. >> reporter: the victim's family said they are moving at the end of the mon. the suspect in this case is being held on $100,000 cash bill. he had an open case out of malden. the bail in that particular case has been revoked so in total he will spend at least 60 days behind bars without bail. rocking live from chelsea, kimberly bookman, 7 news.
