saugus. the rush to free him after he was struck in the street. >> brandon: a water main break swallowing two workers in the south end. what we've learned about past violations for the company involved. >> jadiann: a coordinated hack attack crippling the internet. >> john: what investigators know about who is behind it. >> jadiann: and landing a crucial role, the fresh face picked to play a "star wars" fan favorite. >> 7news at 11:00 starts now. >> jadiann: all right. first at 11:00, breaking news. a w down in new england. worcester one of the areas hardest hit. as you can see in this video sent to us by a viewer, water rushing down the flooded road. heavy wind, lightning and downpours providing a soggy start to the weekend. >> john: that's right. those flooded roads causing lots of cars to be stranded. our photographer was out in worcester, saw a driver climbing right on to the top of his vehicle with water levels rising. a 7news viewer caught a car stranded in the water also in worcester.

underwater and it's not going anywhere trapped in the floodwaters. >> john: and in nashua, new hampshire, this picture shows the dangerous flooding in a home depot parking lot. water creeping up, a flash flood warning is in effect for many areas, including downtown boston. let's begin our coverage with chief meteorologist jeremy reiner. >> jeremy: okay, john. we have that flash flood warning in the city as well as suffolk county, essex county and up through rockingham county. thankfully, worcester out of the flash f their warning just expired a few moments ago. the worst of it now confined to the coastline, but look at these rainfall totals from earlier this evening. and keep in mind, too, that this all happened within one to three hours. that's a lot of rain. even in a drought, it can be too much of a good thing. worcester five inch, stowe and pepperell under four inches of rain. heaviest of the rain shifting east of the worcester hills and new east of the city of boston. this is good here.

water to begin to recede. further east again and north, we still have that heavy tropical plume of rain cape ann up through the seacoast with thunderstorms embedded. that will move off the southeast coast within the next 30 to 45 minutes. and on the south shore, a narrow band of some very heavy rain, but also moving at a good clip. this will move across the cape and then move out to sea overnight tonight. warm round of showers around lunchtime tomorrow. we focus on high winds tomorrow few minutes. >> john: some roads in worcester ended up flooded tonight, trapping some drivers. amaka ubaka is live. there amaka? >> amaka: john, many of those roads are impassable. the worst might be on cambridge street. take a look past me. you see these waters are about six to eight feet deep right under that bridge. there are two cars, one under the bridge and one right before

this is one of the concerns that police have. it exploded because of the water. that's why police, they're warning people to not try and drive through all of this water or you might just get stuck. a chaotic scene here in worcester. >> you can't go left, right or strait. >> amaka: there are several reports of trapped in their cars, getting stuck in four or five feet of water, like isaac, who was just trying to make it home >> i see it's too much. i tried to reverse and my car shut off. >> i was thinking it was going the drain out so i could get out tomorrow. >> amaka: this man stood on top of his car and stripped down to his underwear after being drenched. not far away a bridge was filled with water six feet high.

and it's all over the city official all over the city it's like this they said. >> amaka: the roads all over the city impassable because of flash floods. city officials in worcester are warning people the stay off the roads, saying the flooding is also lifting manhole covers. people who live here looking on at high waters they've never seen before. how long have you been living here? >> 3-something years. >> amaka: have you ever seen something like this? >> not this bad. no, not this bad. >> amaka:ga how high these waters are. you can see that car as the water comes up to about the tire mark. that's why police are warning people to stay off these roads. we also have an update on people without power. about 1,800 people in the city of worcester are without power tonight. at this point it's in the clear when exactly roads like this will be reopened, but we know it will be quite the clean-up this weekend. for now live in worcester, amaka ubaka, 7news night team. >> john: breaking news. right now in saugus, a child hit

dragged. the night team's tim caputo live in saugus with the very latest. tim? >> tim: jadiann, that young boy was taken to mass general hospital with pretty serious injuries. he was with who we believed to be hissier and another friend. they were crossing this crosswalk on walnut street when that young boy was hit by an s.u.v. coming up walnut street. we're told that young boy is believed to be about nine or ten years old and was dragged about 40 feet underneath that s.u.v. before realized or just stopped while turning into the walgreens parking lot hire in saugus. police responded to the scene shortly after that. that boy was pinned partially underneath that car. he was removed from that and rushed to mass general hospital. with fairly serious injuries. no one at this point on his current condition at the hospital. that's all happening around 7:30 p.m. the driver of course did stay on scene. they towed that s.u.v. away. no word from police at this

facing any citations or charges. that's the latest live from saugus, tim caputo, 7news night team. >> tonight on, the chilling collapse in boston's south end. >> a bunch of water gushing real quick. >> you can see the workers running around in panic. >> the flood of trouble leads to a trench tragedy. >> john: tonight recovery crews have been able that remove the bodies of 2 two workers who died in that trench. we'rels past violations for the company involved in this accident. we have night team coverage of the construction collapse starting with brandon gunnoe in boston's south end tonight. brandon? >> brandon: john, it took crews more than seven hours to recover the bodies of two men who basically were buried in this trench when water and debris started to fill the hole. in this cell phone video, you see a man on the ground trying to reach into the hole, but it's

when firefighters arrived on the street in minutes, dartmouth street was already flooded. >> water was squirting out of the ground. we could see workers running around in panic. >> brandon: two construction workers were killed after a water main broke, flooding the two men trapped in a trench 12 to 15 feet deep. >> it looks like somehow a pipe must have broke and unfortunately they weren't able to get themselves out of the hole. it's sad. >> brandon: it happened outside a brownste dartmouth street boston's south end. a private construction crew was working in the trench when water started pouring in. others tried to rescue the men, but it was too late. >> the guys looked like they were hysterically trying to get them out. >> they were running around in a panic with their arms over their heads and stuff. >> brandon: the mayor sent out a statement that his thoughts and prayers are with the families. >> it's sad. construction is a dangerous, dangerous field. >> it's terrible that you have to work so hard and these accidents have to happen. i mean, it shouldn't happen to

>> brandon: osha and boston police will now investigate what led up to this tragic accident. live in boston's south end, brandon gunnoe, 7 news night team. >> jadiann: tonight we've learned the company involved has been cited by federal investigate ears number of times leading up to today's collapse. we continue our coverage tonight in roslindale. >> alex: this is family-owned company, by all accounts tight night, but a the atlantic drain company shows this company has also had its share of problems. a note with deepest sympathies from roslindale neighbors along with a bouquet of flowers hang on the door of the atlantic drain service. one lost was a long-time employee, a grandfather. >> it's a tragic thing that just happened. okay. everyone that he works with and all his friends who knew him, they're devastated. >> alex: the other employee had only been with the company a

>> i'm in shock. i'm at a loss for words. it's so hard. >> alex: a check of records shows the atlantic drain service had five violations from the occupational safety and health administration since 2006. most recent in september of 2015, the company was cited for two repeat violations involving underground construction safety. one of them for not having a required rescue team. the other citation for impropera underground evacuation plan. for the violation since 2007, osha fined atlantic drain $95,600. and osha will investigate this latest incident. we are live in roslindale, 7news night team. >> jadiann: election day only 18 days away now. the presidential push nearing

just like burning. people can't be safe in their own homes. it's crazy. why shoot somebody? it doesn't make sense. that's a kid's playground. >> john: a 19-year-old everett man, christian garcia, is charged in that shooting. he's being held without bail. 21 qoaltd angel mateo hiding his face in court today accused of kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old girl. on her way the school in lawrence yesterday. he also faces a separate attempted woman who says she saw him on the news last night recognized him as the man that she claims attacked her back in may. police say both attacks happened in mateo's lawrence apartment. he was quickly tracked down by police yesterday because of the g.p.s. device that he wears. stemming from charges of disseminating obscene material. he's being held without bail. >> john: now to a developing story out of southern

responding to massive fire at a cardboard recycling center. thick, black smoke could be seen for miles as you can see. this fire raging out of control. several trucks in the yard were also engulfed in flames and some homes across the street appear to have some damage. you can see a lot of ladders on that fire right now. in kansas, more than 100 people were treated for breathing problems after a chemical spill this morning. two chemicals mixed creating a chemical cloud over the city. officials say clean under way and there is no threat to the public's health at this time. >> john: up next, the very latest on that weather alert tonight. strong storms moving right through new england, and boston bringing heavy rains and in some cases flash flooding. chief meteorologist jeremy reiner is tracking that storm. >> jeremy: yes, john, we're tracking that very heavy rain, now moving out of the city of boston. but more rain for the weekend as well as wind. forecast up next. >> jadiann: okay. we're tracking something else, a hack attack. what brought the internet's busiest web site to a halt today?

sites like twitter, netflix, amazon, paypal and a long list of others. this attack was aimed at dime architect company based in manchester, new hampshire, that serveses as an internet switchboard. it crippled dms or the domain name server, the so-called address book for the internet, eventually overloading it. >> what we know is a cyber criminal group or a group of people created the opporty they funneled all of that traffic at a particular company, dyn. >> john: the hack will cost major corporations dearly. it is too early to tell who is responsible, but some say based on the methods and the magnitude, it may be russian in origin. one senior u.s. intelligence official, another cyber expert tell nbc news this is a classic case of internet vandalism and likely not state sponsored.

these types of attacks. we have to make sure we have a resilient network that is able to withstand these types of probes. >> john: with the largest outage in the northeast, a second wave spread west. tens of millions couldn't check their banking accounts or log on to local news sites. in los angeles, epic interactive sent home employees with paypal and twitter down, nobody could work. >> i think we should be concerned because it's one thing when there is an attack. it's another thing when an entire day goes by and it seems like the company involved can't fix it. >> john: with dime saying it's fighting multiple very well-planned attacks, the case of cyber warfare comes just before the election. experts say we are in unchartered territory. no critical personal or financial information was lost, as far as we know, this those attacks. >> jadiann: back to the weather now. worcester got the brunt of the rain with many streets flooded

cars with water above the tires. many drivers leaving their cars in the road. chief meteorologist jeremy reiner joins us with the extended forecast. >> jeremy: thankfully the worst has shifted east of was and really in the city of boston. the worst of the rain, the the heaviest of the rain has shifted east of downtown boston, but that said, we still have the flash flood warning in effect until midnight. and if you saw maaka's report in worcester, there are still some largeud near the storm drains. most of those have drained off, but we need a little more time to get rid of that water. look at how much water we had inwitz proper. four and a half inches of rain, stow about 3.8. pepperell about 3.6 inches of rain. city of boston 1.1 inches of rain. that's the last tally, but probably we'll finish higher than that. official hair at the airport in worcester, 4.1 inches of rain. by the way, for the city of boston, it clinches the first

precipitation in a month in boston since february. so this is one way to get out of a drought. i know you don't want this to happen very often, these flooded roadway, but that's what usually happen, you get these storms that crawl and move along. that's the city of worcester. now inside of 128, again new york more heavy rain in boston. that's now shifted east. still out on cape ann and still up through the seacoast, even some lightning strikes right there. some showers, downpours, thunderstorms, moving northeast. so that will head up toward the mid-coast of maine o the south shore, the tail of that plume of heavy tropical rain. that's about ready to jump off the south shore. and that will head east and then clip the cape over the next couple hours. so what exactly happened? big storm system continuing to evolve basically right on top of new york city and what it was doing was grabbing sol tropical moisture off the atlantic and then pulling that twaferred this warm from the right here. when that tropical moisture interacted with the front, it would be like taking a wash

water, and just ringing it out. unfortunately that happened right in the city of worcester as well as boston, and lawrence and malden and pick you town. you get the point. just locally heavy rain for a few hours. as we advance the time line after midnight tonight, the whole thing will wiped down for just a bunch of clouds by tomorrow morning. maybe even a peek or two of sun. but otherwise a lot of clouds and humid. then there will be one more band of rain that comes through early tomorrow afternoon between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. it will not be a repeat of this it's the front that is cooler and increasingly windier air. this will be a front that will generate a lot of wind on the back side of the front, even some snow showers in northern and western new england. highest elevations nothing for us, but for tomorrow afternoon, after 4:00 p.m., through tomorrow night and into sunday, it's windy. winds will gust over 30mph tomorrow evening. and i think they may gust over 40mph on sunday. but at least you'll have the sunshine. temps tomorrow start in the
