>> anchor: now at 7 breaking news. trouble on the orange line. passengers breaking windows and prying open doors to get out. >> anchor: a box truck plows through a home in winchester. >> anchor: a popular bike trail now shut down. >> reporter: tracking a chilly rain on the way for tomorrow now. >> anchor: and we begin with breaking news at 7. passengers forced to evacuate. people on board started breaking windows. climbing out of them just to get to safety. investigators and passengers will tell you the train started smoking. >> anchor: the whole thing causing big delays during the evening's commute. >> reporter: brian, lots of panic at back bay station when this fire broke out.

reopened. as you see there are fans here clearing out what remains of the smoke. the fire broke out on an orange line at back bay station. the fire was in the motor but fire fighters also tell us trash on the third rail which is electrified was ignited. passengers began breaking doors and windows as you see here. the mbta says the doors didn't the train was away from the platform which prevented those doors from opening. a pastry chef was among 5 people treated for smoke inhalation. she describes how she used a knife to break a window. >> i took my scarf. this is my 8 inch chef knife and that's not a pastry knife. that's a chef knife. i did this. i'm a certified black belt.

there. the rav 4 may have been involved in a hit and run. witnesses tell 7 news it was speeding at about 70 miles per hour. it ultimately hit this wall causing bricks to tumble. ambulances were called and both the male driver and female passenger were taken from the scene conscious and alert. no one was home at the time when this suv crashed through. >> when i came to this up here. flying up here 70 with no brakes. smack into the wall. got out of the car and somebody sat him down. and the fire department came. >> the people were conscious and alert. removed him from the vehicle. i don't know what happened preceding that. coming up this speed at a high rate of speed. and may have been a hit and run on cambridge street. >> reporter: we did talk to the

suspect near the rail trail near route 114. all this after a woman in her 40s was approached by a man on a bicycle. >> she realized he was exposing himself and coming towards her reaching out to get her. she screamed for help. he took off. >> reporter: the woman wasn't harmed. schools in the area were notified of the incident. a private tower school prek through 8 next to the rail trail inside. >> we went into lock down. obviously the security of our kid size a priority. >> reporter: investigators scoured the area for hours. leaving runners and walkers scared but not deterred to be out here. >> bad things happen anywhere. you have to be vigilant and aware. anything can happen. >> we haven't had anything like

there will be a heavy police presence in the area for a while longer. >> reporter: investigators are also urging people using the rail trail heres to walk in groups and also make sure you carry a cell phone. in marble head steve cooper 7 news. >> anchor: a community coming together to remember 4 college students hit and killed on 495. live in hyannis with more on a vigil remember these 4 young meninded a few minutes ago. a few hundred people are actually still here consoling the family members and friends. look at video from earlier i've never seen so many people speak at a vigil. just everybody came out seemed to know these 4 young men.

the wrong way on 495 when she crashed head on to a vehicle with these college students. all 4 died on scene. 19-year-old jordan fisher and 2 other students. the men were home on the cape for the weekend we're told and heading back to school when the crash happened. 2 attended anamaria and 2 attended becker college. >> we had everyone supported us. it was beautiful. this is what we have again. celebrating the life of a few people. had a rough week here. very rough week. i don't care how you left and what happened you're not here anymore. this is our community, our family, our love all connected. >> reporter: takes a village to raise a family. you see how many people are still at this candlelight vigil

they investigating why that young woman was driving on the wrong side of the road. >> anchor: turning now to a story you'll see on just one station. an accused computer hacker collapsing at the end of his first court appearance in federal court. he considers himself a human rights activist. he made claims online to hack a website. not just the boston children's website costing the 2 facilities an estimated $300,000. in protest he's been on a hunger strike for more than 3 weeks. >> he cares about protecting kids from institutional abuse. >> you think he's going to do die for it? >> he's willing to give his life for this cause.

medical treatment from a nurse in the courtroom for 45 minutes. >> anchor: an officer shot and killed a man on a stabbing spree in taunton this year. he was shot by an off duty officer at the city galleria. then he drove off crashing into the mall before going inside and killing another man. that's when the off duty officer shot and killed del rosa. killed while trying to stop del rosa from attacking a pregnant women. >> anchor: still searching for a person they of say broke into a home on wood hill drive this morning. detectives say there was a small marijuana growing operation inside. the resident confronted the intruder fired a gun shot before the suspect ran away. a nearby school was placed on lock down during the manhunt.
