the web site. the days of digging in your pocket to pay a toll are over. at 10:00 tonight, massachusetts goes to an all-electronic tolling system. >> the main thing i'm concerned about is... well, of course, the traffic. it is going to be crazy. and then on the other thing is, the money. >> reporter: as the new system is implemented, thes. possible delays because of changes in traffic patterns. to help people prepare, ez pass customer service centers will have extended hours throughout the weekend. the department of transportation releaving this video of what the changes will eventually look like. the new tolling system will be cheaper for people with transponders. if you don't already have one, there will be a six-month grace period. here is what you need to know. if you don't have a transponder, you will get a

matter. are you with me? >> reporter: here is another live picture as crowds asemiable to hear donald trump speak here in manchester. again, he was supposed to speak right around noon. we have been told by his campaign that things are running late. he is also supposed to meet at some point today with local leaders from the area and local law enforcement. live in manchester, victoria warren, 7 news. >> christa: a scare at la guardia airport last night. vice presidential candidate mike pence's plane sliding off the runway. thankfully no, one was hurt. it was frightening onboard for the people who were there. jennifer eagan has more. >> reporter: today pence is getting onnew plane to make stops in pennsylvania and north carolina. he talked about what happened last night. pence said he knew they were off the runway when he saw mud splash up on the window. scary moments on the plane of

>> remain seated. >> reporter: pence's campaign jet skidded off the runway at la guardia airport in new york on thursday night around 8:00. >> it was ten seconds of uncertainty. as the plane came down. >> reporter: speaking on the today show this morning, pence described the harrowing landing. saying he and the 30 other people onboard, reporters, his staff, and family could feel the pilot braking hard. >> we felt the plane fish-tailing a little bit. then it slid sideways. and when we saw the mud splash up on the windows, up in e front of the aircraft, we knew we were off the runway. >> reporter: authorities say barriers made of crushable concrete at the end of the runway helped stop the plane and prevent it from reaching a busy highway. >> the arrester beds served their purpose tonight. we are not going to speculate on the cause of the incident. >> reporter: reporters say pence checked the cabin to make sure everyone was safe. the v.p. candidate took it in stride. even stopping to take pictures with firefighters. >> we are so grateful.

more ahead. >> christa: police and swat teams surrounding a hotel up in hampton, new hampshire. this led to a standoff. police did not return fire. the union leader reports the man was later found dead inside a room at the mary ann motel. no officers hurt here. fire damaging several boats in medford. officials say two boats were badly damaged at this boat yard. and that the plastic covers of six other vessels burned. no injuries are reported. >> sarah: police in con followed a child home from school and took pictures of him. this afternoon, parents are on alert. nicole oliverio has the latest. >> reporter: parents may be chaining their lol day weekend plans in concord after police say a suspicious man followed an elementary school student home on thursday. . >> we are not sure what we are going to do for halloween. whether we will walk with them. some of them are old enough to probably go on their own. reporth a male driver approached a young student

the man reportedly told the child he had candy. the boy ignored the man. but told officers as he was entering his home. the driver got out of the car and began taking pictures with his phone. >> i do work at the high school here in town. and i would say it is a pretty safe place. i don't think anywhere is safe. >> reporter: concord's first concern is student safety and principals and staff will emphasize to students to avoid strangers and to not go near any cars they don't know. happen very often. we kind of let the children enjoy the town without worrying. report t boy told officers he believed the driver was in a newer model sedan. police won't say where this happened or what school that student was coming. from but they are asking the public for help. in concord, 7 news. >> christa: a new hampshire woman allegedly kidnapped by her boyfriend has been found safe now. police in londonderry say that victor rosario forced the

afternoon. then drove over the border here into massachusetts. state police here were able to stop him eventually in worcester. rosario was questioned. he was released. as the investigation unfolds, he could face several charges, including kidnapping. >> there are new details regarding aaron hernandez. his phone conversations were tapped or taped rather by an unknown person while he was being held at the suffolk county house of corrections during the summer of 2014. at that time, he killing of odin lloyd to begin. according to the "herald," defense lawyers and prosecutors never learned about the taped phone calls. hernandez is now serving life in prison for killing a din lloyd. >> christa: coming up on 7. protesters facing off with police in north dakota. dozens were arrested as a months-long conflict turns violent. >> sarah: a masked robber targeting a west roxbury bank. who stepped in to help foil

even a little bit of wet snow out in wis western worcester county yesterday. nothing like what we saw five years ago. it's hard to believe it's been five years since we saw this powerful nor'easter late in october. 2011. places in massachusetts, near peru, massachusetts, picking up 32 inches of snow. peru is out there in the western portion of the state. even up into ash burnham, 22 inches of snow. that 20-plus area worked its way into new hampshire with that storm. 15 inches of snow from it in fully leafed out there, we had power outages and huge issues. 1.7 million lost their power back in that nor'easter. up and down not only new england but you have to factor in upstate new york as well as down into new jersey. rainfall totals out of this storm, this is the main theme here. this is the headlining event for us. in terms of the aspect of the storm across eastern massachusetts. it was the rain. one to two inches fell across the area. in its wake, we still have a little bit of wet weather

and done with here in southern new england. once in a while, some patches of drizzle and a couple of light showers. i expect that to be the case through the afternoon and even into the early evening hours around dinnertime. more nuisance-type stuff. you combine the fact that we are not seeing much sun. you combine the fact that they have winds gusting over 30 miles an hour. temperatures only running into the 40's. it is a cool, windy raw feel to the air. to end this workweek. look at the heavy snow across portions of maine. really piling up in portionsle of ski country out that way. you get to sugarloaf and north and east, looks like up near millinocket, maine, points north, some snow there. a cold rain across the down-east coastline. 48 in boston right now. 41 in worcester. a potent storm. we are the strong winds out of the west. gusting to near 30 miles an hour. this is driving down windchill factors down into the 0's and lower 40's.

still a chilly breeze out there. we will continue to see these gusty winds through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening. overnight tonight, the winds slacken off. we begin to see this cloud cover break apart. not expecting much wet weather tomorrow. however, more clouds around in the afternoon. i can't rule out a passing sprinkle or brief light shower in a few towns. i don't him the we will see a whole lot of rain tomorrow. even on sunday, much of the day is dry. at least the first half to two-thirds of it. this wav o fbs it may, indeed, give us a couple more showers sunday afternoon and sunday evening. we will keep an eye on. that what you see is what you get the rest of the day here. mid to upper 40's with spotty drizzle around. high school football tonight. we will hold low to mid-40's. again, some patches of sprinkles still around toward kickoff. the 7 on 7 forecast. all-important halloween forecast for the kids. we are going to be dry. costume-wise on monday. thanks to a mix of sun and

sip a pipeline protest intensifying in north dakota. police arresting more than a hundred people after a dramatic standoff. protesters set several fires and blocked a highway where an oil pipeline is expected to be built. >> christa: one protesters even opened fire on an officer. overnight, police heading the ground where they clashed with native american protesters in north dakota. an army of 200 officers clearing demonstrators, blocking a highway, used access >> meaning the proest thers would get right in the faces of officers and say nasty things to them. >> what lengths is north dakota willing to go to defend a multibillion-dollar oil corporation? >> christa: the $3.8 billion project is capable of transporting 570,000 barrels of oil per day. construction, though, runs along a standing reservation.

a survivor getting back some of her belongings. >> reporter: at first, erica branic didn't know if she wanted to see her things from that day. she decided to go ahead and get them back. and a cell phone filled with messages from that day. for erica branic, every step is a reminder of the deadly attack near the boston marathon finish line. she has undergone multiple surge ris and is now living with a prosthetic leg. nothing has brought back the me seeing the clothes she was wearing and where the pieces of shrapnel pierced her body. >> at first, i wasn't sure if i wanted to see my clothes. when i was there, i decided i do want to see them. i had a ravens shirt on that i loved. i remember being so upset that they cut it. i had... i saw my jeans. i saw how shredded and torn apart they were. and oddly enough, my left shoe

and now that i'm an amputee on my left side, it was very emotional seeing my shoe. report tt f.b.i. held the items as evidence and then sent them off to be decontaminated. >> i charged my phone: it still had everything on there. i had 67 text messages that... over ten voice mails. from that day. >> reporter: she doesn't know what she is going to do with the items. she is not ready to see them destroyed. >> it was very emotional. but it was also healing. at the same time to. kind of come full circle wit. >> reporter: bran sick helping the f.b.i. with a new on-line tool that educates teens about violent extremism. >> sarah: police asking for help with connecting some crimes. officers are asking the public to help identify this man. they say he is connected to several break-ins in town.

commercial businesses during the past month. a man is killed in a fiery crash in milford. investigators say the driver was speeding. when he lost control of the car. and hit a fire hydrant before flipping the car over in front of the car dealership. the car then burst into flames. people nearby raced to try to help that driver, but it was just too late. >> he thought that we should probably try to smash out the window. so jerry took the extinguisher, smashed it into the back smashed, smoke started coming on out. the car was popping. it sounded like it was going to blow up. we had to make the decision to back away from the vehicle. >> sarah: right now police are looking into whether the driver had a medical emergency prior to the crash. >> christa: an officer working a detail at a west roxbury credit union. this attempted robbery happened.

she ran after the suspect and tracked them down. >> reporter: the boston police officer was working a detail inside the boston credit union in west roxbury. >> i actually saw her when i walked past. there was a lady right in the front. she was sitting at a booth or something. >> reporter: man with a mask came through the doors. the officer ordered the man to take off the mask. the man wouldn't comply and told the officer to hand over her gun. she refused and chased the man out of the credit union. the bold robbery attempt has stunned employees. police say the man took off at a small red car fbs. a police captain who was in the area heard the call on the radio and picked up the police officer. they chased the man down. here outside an italian restaurant called tony's place, 51-year-old richard casano was

>> sarah: boston police say an uber driver won't face any charges for crashing into a home in beacon hill. the driver has been involved in numerous accidents over the years. his record includes several license suspensions since 1985. uber says the driver does meet state standards to drive for them. >> christa: two people arrested after this crash that was caught on camera. in lebanon, new hampshire. police say the suspects were drunk when as you see, they went off the road and then slammed into a utility pole. wow. officers found prescription drugs in the car, they say. they have been charged with driving under the influence and drug possession. >> sarah: we are following more news today. the 7 people involved in an armed standoff in oregon cleared of all charges. the group drew national attention when they occupied a federal wildlife refuge earlier this year. a verdict not sitting well

tears of joy. >> we came to the county seeking justice. and we found it. >> reporter: the jury found the brothers, along with five other defendants not guilty on all counts connected to an armed standoff with federal agents back in february. >> it's overwhelming. it is all we hope for. but didn't know we would get. report t trial coming after an occupation at a wildlifer refuge in oregon that lasted six weeks. a group of at least 19 occupiers said they were protesting for rangers' rights and opposing government overreach. prosecutors in the trial argue that the defendants kept federal employ easy from doing their jobs during their occupation of the refuge. some defendants also faced felony charges of theft of government property and possession of firearms at a federal facility. during the leader's arrest, a

showdown with federal agents and police. the leader remains in police custody. they are facing charges from a 2014 standoff with federal agents in nevada. >> i have to go to nevada. that is the next step. go to nevada and fight. to win it there, too. that is goingk to enough... that is going to be a tough nut to crack. we will do it. >> reporter: day of celebration. for some supporters, the fight is just beginning. an attorney was taken intoius marshall's custody but was since released. >> christa: two freight trains collide head-on today south of philadelphia. one was car rig empty cars. the other was carrying consumer goods. two people were hurt. we don't know their conditions at this moment. it is unclear what caused the trains to be on the same track. >> sarah: two officers were

one officer was grazed by a bullet and fell to the ground. while he was on the ground, he opened fire. as you can hear there, there was heavy gunfire. the officers' partner shot the suspect several times. wounded officer has been relesioned from the hospital. the suspect is in stable condition. >> get bk! >> christa: a woman recovering after being burned in this explosion that happened at a mobile home in ohio. an officer's body camera, as you see here, captured the footage wednesday. investigators say that an oxygen tank erupted. that is what caused the blast. all right, chocoholics. this is your lucky day.

yes, we had flash flooding a week ago through worcester county. there was short-term beneficial rain. in fact, too much too fast. in quite a few cases out there into worcester county. we will slowly chisel away at this. slight improvements next week. when we look at the next weekly update that comes out on thursday. overall, though, we picked up another one to two inches of water last night and early this morning. we still see some patches of drizzle and some light showers around. but this potent storm is into southern maine, and then you get across the interior. it is snowing. especially across the higher terrain of the western and northwestern mountains in maine. 48 in boston. 41 in worcester. we actually lost several degrees in the city. we were 55 this morning. the reason for that was when the area of low pressure was over us or just west of us, it was a strong on-shore wind coming offer those relatively warm ocean waters. and also out of the east, southeast.
