flames after the driver crashed into a tree. >> he first lost police officer on the scene the veek kal was fully engulfed in flames. >> reporter: it happened on bald win street around 2:30. police say a deer ran into road causing the driver to lose control of his vehicle. >> when he swerved to avoid a deer in the road. >> reporter: the car burst into flames immediately. the man was able to get out quick enough so that he was not burned. a woman driving by called >> very calm, very composed. told us immediately that the car was on fire. and that the gentleman had already gotten on it. >> reporter: the driver did have one broken bone and was taken to the hospital. the suv was a total loss but the chief said the truck can be replaced and you don't know if it's safer to hit the animal or swoich. >> it's a spur of the moment thing. he was already second guessing

in a deadly ambush in iowa two police officers lured in and killed. tonight investigators say they've caught the man responsible and we learn more about him through a video posted on youtube. >> reporter: an emotional encounter between a woman and an iowa police officer after a tragic night for officers in urbandale. it was one of 6:00 a.m. when police responding to spots fire un rookie officer, this was his first year on the job. 20 minutes later, 2 miles away, des moines sergeant was found shot in his squad car. a husband and father, he died at the hospital. >> they were sitting in the car and they didn't have a chance to defend themselves. >> reporter: police moved quickly to identify scott michael green as their suspect. he turned himself in hours later. green is well known to police in
