heavily armed suspect. >> anchor: the nypd updating the situation a short time ago. latest from ryan schulteis. >> reporter: officials say the officers were not ambushed but shot while pursuing the suspect in a home invasion. trying top place the suspect under arrest for a home invasion. new york city mayor spoke moments ago remembering the officer who was year veteran of the nypd. long term member of the 43 precinct and a loving father of 2 young children. >> reporter: during that shooting officers returned fire killing the suspects. the nypd commissioner said the suspect has a lengthy criminal history. the other officer shot in the attack is undergoing surgery. he is in stable condition. that sergeant killed is the 5th

in the line of duty in years. >> anchor: 2 people stabbed at rutgers university today. the suspect in custody this evening. police say it happened around 3:00 this afternoon. put that university on lock down until they caught up with the suspect a short time later. one student didn't realize how serious the threat was at first. >> at first i thought it was just 2 guys fighting each other. that's what it sounded like. a struggle go down and people started getting up looking frantic and shortly after that ambulance came up. police came up. >> anchor: both victims and the suspect were treated for injuries. police haven't detailed how serious those injuries are. >> anchor: we are following a developing story. police say a pedestrian was hit by a truck in the area of river street.

>> reporter: this is where that victim was hit. we have video from sky 7 to show you. the man was walking across the street with head phones on when he was hit by a box truck a short while ago. he was knocked unconscious and given assistance by the driver of that box truck who stopped and others. family members tell us the victim is in his 30s and was walking home across rivers street. that man was then life fliged to an unknown hospital. his condition is unknown at this hour. police continue their investigation. and we are waiting for more information from police. live in haverhill alex deprado 7 news. >> tonight on 7. the election count down at 4 days. >> this is where it all began new hampshire. this is where it all began. >> this is one of those make or break moments for the united states. >> it's the final friday in the

skies are crystal clear as seen on the satellite and radar image. and that's been the case. get down to mid 30s or so in boston. again, some of the usual cool spots more like mid 20s later on tonight. generally clear skies tonight. clouds will roll in through saturday. talk about the weekend forecast coming up. >> anchor: also on 72 officers attacked in falh. police say a man threw heroin at the officers while they were inside the station. jonathan hall has details from the cape. >> russell pena. >> reporter: 38-year-old russell pena allegedly attacked 2 police officers after a drug bust by tossing hidden heroin at them. >> mr. pena removed bags of narcotics from his anal cavity

the narcotics. >> i've never heard of a suspect throwing drugs on to an officer. >> reporter: the chief says his officers got into a scuffle with pena as he was processed after arrest. they had taken this mug shot of him. he says pena pulled a clear plastic baggy full of heroin broke it open and flung it at the officers. one was hit in the face. >> the officers gained control of him. rehandcuff and placed him in the cell. we dealt with the situation of the officers covered in the heroin. >> reporter: emt's brought the officers and pena to the hospital where they were treated and released. the drug bust came at 9:30 a.m. at a parking lot at falmouth scenic harbor. pulled over pena's black chevy impala to execute search warrants. the arrest went fine.

there will be far fewer cars in this neck of the woods it could be a mess over here this weekend. especially is the afternoon for several hours 128 in both directions will be closed as they tear down a bridge over the highway. this construction gets underway at 8:00 this evening. tearing down the highland avenue bridge. it connects needham and newton. they have to take down the old one. do it on course of this weekend. as they take down the part of the bridge over northbound lanes transition by saturday evening to take over the remaining parts of the bridge in the southbound lanes. people will have to take side roads get off on the exit before. and get back on the highway the exit after it. others who have to be here over the weekend plan on giving
