jonathan hall, 7news. stocks soaring today a short contrast that the early trump presidency would send them into the tank. >> while the results were coming in last night, the dow futures started to crash, sparking lots of fears about a collapse on wall street. but today the markets were thriving. the dow soared 257 points at the closing bell, close to a record high. overnight there was some panic in global markets, dow futures plummeted nearly trump white house. but as you can see today a sense of relative calm has turned the markets. in the control room now, jadiann thompson, 7 news. and we do have some breaking news now in the senate race in new hampshire. senator kelly ayotte just conceding the race hours after democratic governor maggie hassen declared victory. this race was so close all night, and obviously all day. many people were talking about a possible recount. but let's give you a look at the final numbers.

hassen winning by a little more than 1,000 votes. tim caputo live in salem, new hampshire with the numbers and the reaction. >> yeah, kim, if people ever needed proof that every vote counts, this is the race to show it. more than 700,000 votes total, this one was decided by just about 1,000. kelly ayotte, senator kelly ayotte just conceding to governor maggie hassen a short time ago after double-checking and triple-checking after the new hampshire secretary of state came out with the final numbers showing while it was a close the lead and has taken the victory. hassen early this morning appeared to have it in hand. she held a rally this morning saying that it appeared that she was going to win the seat in the senate and she told her supporters it looked like it was in the bag. >> we are confident that given the size of the outstanding tallies that we have won this race and we of course want to make sure that every vote is counted. i am honored to be elected to

we know that this election exposed very serious divisions in our country, and it's up to all of us, elected leaders, citizens now, to come together and focus on our common challenges and our common opportunities. >> kelly ayotte releasing a statement in the last 15 minutes that reads in part this is a critical time for new hampshire and our country, and now more than ever we need to work together to address our it's time all of us, to come together, to get things done for the people of the greatest state in this nation, and for the greatest country on earth. maggie hassen also releasing another statement just the last five minutes or so saying that kelly ayotte called her on the phone a short time ago to officially concede in this senate race. she says she thanked ayotte for her graciousness in that phone call and for her service to the country and her one term in the senate.
