national airport. we got confirmation that they made it in about 11:10 or so. it's been at least 45 minutes so far. there were no live cameras that were aloud for the actual arrival on the south lawn. of course, this meeting comes after a contentious campaign with obama on the trail for hillary clinton. years of trump railing against obama. trump, of course, questioned obama's birth place for years. but today the two have come together for a one on one meeting in the oval office. and president-elect trump melania trump who we understand is meeting with first lady michelle obama. now, trump already has a very packed schedule. he is assembling his team as the president-elect. he is also scheduled to meet with house speaker paul ryan and the senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. it is scheduled for 12:30 at the capital building. however, i don't know if they are running late at this point. they are still in the oval office. both are republicans who did not campaign for trump, but they all know say it is time

the rally drew thousands to the statehouse. >> he is not going to be my president. i will never address him as such. >> reporter: and down on to boston common. >> i want to make sure that i stand up for what's right. and send a message. >> reporter: protesters upset about the outcome of the election. today, boston mayor marty wall, acknowledged their frustration but urged calm. >> at this time, we don't need the protests. i mean, right now is probably the wrong time. some of the folks arepr voted. >> reporter: the protest starpted as a facebook event. it swelled to more than 4,000 people. it was created by the boston socialist students, a self-described movement for the 99%. >> i want to make sure that whatever happens, our country stays united and it gets better. >> reporter: roads were closed as demonstrators marched up beacon street. police say the rally was peaceful. >> protests are great. let's take that energy and use it towards making change if we

they watch tv. they know what's being said. there is a lot of rhetoric going on still yesterday about, you know, people who are undocumented. people who are going to be kicked out of the country. >> reporter: fifth-grader bianca says that rhetoric is taking a toll on her friends. >> they are talking about how they want to go back where they came from. they don't want to be here anymore. >> reporter: there is counseling and support. >> you never know. kids may have some feelings it. kids need to get their feelings out, too. >> reporter: some parents say the schools should leetch these discussions at home. >> this is democracy. this is how america is doing. . >> i explain to her, give guy a chance. you never know. he might do the unexpected. >> reporter: he says it is his job to talk to his daughter. but the schools should step in if the kids aren't getting help from home.

and what about some of candidate trump's more extreme plans? >> we will build a great wall along the southern border. >> reporter: his mexican-funded border wall unlikely. part of the problem: the cost. estimates range from $8 billion to $122 billion. while he says mexico would pay, the country's foreign moneyer is saying yesterday that is not happening. also unlikely, another staple of his campaign. >> donald j. trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown the united states. >> reporter: his temporary muz lyme ban unpopular, even among some republicans. candidate trump also signaling he won't take such a hard-line stance. before donald trump can act on his agenda, he has to get situated in the oval offers with president obama's help. that first meeting under way as we speak. he has also created a web site. he is hoping to fill thousands of political appointments.

>> reporter: welcome back. thanks for joining us. your thursday forecast looks pretty phenomenal. 8-10 degrees cooler than yesterday. we are seeing plenty of sunshine. that will be the scenario throughout your day. by tomorrow, much cooler weather. especially by the afternoon. it is going to be pretty breezy. today is going to be a little bit more comfortable than your friday forecast. as we head into saturday, things get down right chilly for us. today, mostly sunny skies a couple of addition clouds across the cape. still mostly sunny really. that is going to be even what we will see through much of the day tomorrow as well. again, temperatures a bit cooler than yesterday. we are 12 degrees cooler here in boston. temperatures are warming up, though. some of us started out in the mid-20's. that is where orange was. bedford, in a similar scenario. here in boston, we started out pretty mild. in the upper 30's. we have warmed up about ten degrees.

a mild day for us here in terms of sunshine. we are turning a hair below normal. but pretty close. by tomorrow, highs are going to be a little bit warmer. you can see we are actually looking at those... reaching us by late morning hours, early afternoon. then temperatures will drop like a stone. as a cold front pushes through. this front moving through new england. that will usher in breezy conditions pretty quickly. especially across the cape and the coast. we are also looking at some much cooler air moving in as well. even though we are talking about temperatures highs actually tomorrow in the mid to uper 50's, those will be short-lived, as we head into the afternoon. temperatures are fall off pretty quickly. today, highs in the mid to low 50's. again, pretty seasonable for us. tomorrow, highs around 11:00, noon. as we head into the afternoon and that cold front pushes through, temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 40's. by the time you head home from work, some of us could be in the low 40's. on top of that, very breezy conditions. some wind gusts. up to around 35 miles per hour. breezier conditions across the cape.

>> christa: officers... a deadly shooting in pennsylvania. us aers were responding to a domestic violence call when the shooter opened fire around 4:00 this morning. one officer was killed and another was injured. the injured officer was rushed to the hospital. his condition is unknown right now. authorities are conducting fast manhunt to find the gunman. five people have been shot in seattle. and now police are searching for that suspect. after firing into a crowd outside a convenience store last night. four men and one woman were rushed to the hospital. some in critical condition. others in serious. officers don't believe the shooting had any relation to anti-trump protests in the area. >> christa: new details coming into our newsroom about an alleged serial killer in south carolina. police say the bodies of a married couple were found on a

setting up a white house. we talked about foreign policy. we talked about domestic policy. and as i said last night, my number one priority in the coming two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our president-elect is successful. i have been very encouraged by, i think, interest president-elect trump's wanting to work with my team around many of the issues that this great country faces. and i believe that it is important for all of us, regardless of party, and regardless of political preferences, to now come together, work together to deal with the many challenges

that president obama offering a few tips there to president-elect donald trump about the press core at the end of these photo ops. what you saw there occurred a few minutes ago. on tape, the first face-to-face meeting as donald trump pointed out the two had never met. talking about policy issues and about a transition. let's go back to chuck todd who is watching with us. chuck, the incoming president will be able to undo with the stroke of a pen some executive actions of president obama. do you think part of the discussion is here, don't do you do that? >> i think there is some of that. some of that is also going to take place on a staff level. the chief of staff was also showing around... basically, the organizational head of the trump campaign. and probably will be involved in some form or another. some of that will be there. president obama on day one signed the executive order that undid some things that he

there will be that on president trump's first day. that is almost like a standard procedure from president to president. particularly, when we change parties. but i'm guessing that a lot of this had to do with, you know, look, the trump folks weren't preparing for this either. as you recall, lester. they didn't think they were going to be in this position. they are having to get up to speed pretty quickly on how to do a transition. in the post-9-11 world, the presidential transition is more difficult and more important than ever particularly, you need seamlessness when it comes to this battle on dealing with domestic and foreign terrorists. >> back to kristen welker. the presidents has told his staff which is somewhat despondent on these results to get onboard and move on with this transition. what does it mean practically? do trump folks start coming to the white house? are there face-to-face meetings? what is the mechanics of the transition?

briefings. they will be meeting with staffers here on a regular basis. from now through the inauguration fbs. you heard president obama talk about the fact that the former president george w. bush really set the tone for a smooth transition and he wants to essentially do exactly what his predecessor did. to make sure that this transition is seamless. i thought it was striking to hear donald trump talk about the importance of getting counsel from president obama. moving forward. has never served in office before. so president obama determined to make sure that this goes smoothly. >> very quickly, chuck, we talked about things are personal between the two of them. no sign, certainly, in that photo op of any hard feelings. >> no. you know what? president obama... you know, that is genuine thing for him on the transition. because it was an extraordinarily smooth transition between george w. bush and barack obama. and on a policy front, remember, barack obama's
