>> sarah: we begin at noon with breaking news. sky 7 over the scene in beverly. a super moon high tide their peak an hour ago. several streets are flooded tlchld this is a look at the radar. showing rain headed our way. we could see some heavy bands of rain before it is all over. thank you for joining us at noon, everybody. i'm sarah french. >> kris: i'm kris anderson. it is definitely expected to get worse before it gets better. possibly in time for the evening commute. >> reporter: well, the good news is that high tide pulled through already at 11:08. we still have rain headed our

minor coastal flooding. first, a quick look off to our west. we are seeing some embedded storms. most of the heavy rain staying off to our west. this continues to push northward. right now, seeing some lighter rain to moderate rain in boston here. but again, that high tide having pulled through. that has caused some flooding. you can see morrissey boulevard is closed. that is expected to be the situation here for the next 45 minutes or so. and i do anticip will continue to get these reports. in especially over the next half hour or so. we still have a coastal flood advisory in effect until 2:00 this afternoon. even after that point, that is when we are going to start to see a lot of heavy rain pull through. we have seen showers this morning. some dry air at the surface preventing a lot of that from really reaching in full effect to the ground. as we head into the afternoon, we will look at some more heavy rain move through. precipitation rates, we will get an inch per hour up to around two inches per hour.

away from half an inch of rain to around a half an inch of rain. temperature-wise, pretty mild. in the low 50's. i do anticipate, again, some heavier rain. as we head into the evening commute hours. between 3:00 and 6:00 this afternoon into the early evening. highs today in the low 50's. with the likely chance for showers and some embedded thunderstorms possible. >> sarah: let's take another look at flooding in beverly. you can see several streets are covered there. the water reaching several people's front steps. following the story for us. he joins us live with the very latest. byron? >> reporter: yeah. you know, we had the high tide about an hour ago. and where i'm standing now, this is long wharf park. boston harbor. you look down here: an hour ago, i would have been standing in a foot of water. you can see that it has receded. out to sea there. this, of course, is all the result of that super moon that people have seen the last couple of days here.

nature. well, today, the second half of that was looking out to sea and mother nature did not disappoint. strolling through the tidal waters in mid-november, some people just couldn't resist. >> it's wild. it's been unexpected. right? >> oh, it is almost... it feels great. >> reporter: nature-lovers out to see the coastal flooding in boston harbor at long wharf park. snapping pictures and just >> it is exciting. it's fun. it's something different and a unique opportunity to experience nature in a different environment. >> reporter: at 11:06, it wasn't just high tide. it was a king tide. the result of the gravitational pull from the super moon many witnessed earlier this week. a moon that hasn't passed this close to the earth in nearly 70 years. >> i saw the moon last night through my window. i wanted to see the high tide. >> reporter: what fascinates you about this?

kowske. this after he was roughed up in the team's loss against seahawks sunday night at gillette. he took a hard hit. the shot to the chest you just saw. there have been contradictory reports about how bad he may have been hurt. reports indicated it may not be as serious as a punctured lung. we are trying to sort this out. >> reporter: well, kris, we did get some good information today. saying it is likely gronk will miss minimal time after what happened here at gillette on sunday. >> that was a big hit, for sure. probably one of the hardest i got hit in my career. >> that is incomplete. gronkowski gets popped. he took a shot. that is the shot that knocked rob gronkowski out of action for five plays sunday night. it might have caused more damage. in rap... ian rappaport of the

investigating. in boston, jennifer eagan, 7 news. >> kris: the results of the presidential election sparking some alarming attacks across the nation as well. the massachusetts attorney general is offering help people who have been targeted by hate crimes. victoria warren has details. >> reporter: fighting back against hate: the attorney general says these anonymous letters filled with racial slurs and violent threats that were left at a natick home are just one of many reports her election day. >> we have established a hot line out of our office in the wake of reports that we have received here in massachusetts and nationally. north maryland, someone ripped holes in a poster advertising a church's spanish language service and then wrote the words "trump nation, whites only" on the back. in indiana, hate-filled graffiti includeing a swastika was spray-painted on a church. a religious statue was desecrated with the homophobic

for the person behind. this. >> our response to this is not to hate. nod not vengeance or revenge. it is supposed to be love. >> reporter: in massachusetts, the attorney general says therenol no tolerance for hate crimes. lawyers and staff will answer calls to the hot line to track reports and take action where needed. >> the attorney general's office will be here to work with our partners in law enforcement to enforce the law and to defend people's rights. >> reporter: so in addition to being abling to call a hot up so you can make these reports on-line as well. from the statehouse, victoria warren, 7 news. >> sarah: state police are searching for a taxi driver who hit a police cruiser in the back bay. the taxi fled the scene after hitting the s.u.v. early this morning. the crash caused minor damage to the cruiser and two other cars. no one was injured. a brand new house that was still under construction. has been destroyed by fire in dartmouth. crews were called to the scene

>> kris: a live look outside. >> sarah: a little rainy today. >> reporter: it is. you already know that we are seeing rain today. but it is going to pick up the pace again. we have already seen that so far through the morning hours. really a couple of sprinkles earlier. as we head into the afternoon, we are looking at the chance for some heavy rainfall. and that is going to continue even through the evening commute. i would expect a slow commute home from work. we are also seeing minor i'll have more on that in a moment here. good news: after today, our mild week continues, actually. temperatures rebound nicely. we do look at temperatures well above our average highs. today is going to be the nastiest day of the week. again, we seeing some coastal flooding. you see these icons popping up. that is where we are seeing some flooding. it has been pretty minor. still something to watch out for. you see further to our west, some convection firing up that way. some embedded thunderstorms in these showers. we have the chance to see that

stayed to our west. these showers are going to continue to push further north. as low pressure tracks further up the eastern seaboard. we will continue to see some more rain. again. a closer look at some of these rain reports. already some coastal flooding. morrissey boulevard currently closed. it looks like it will be closed for the next 45 minutes or so. we have a coastal flood advisory in effect. that's been in effect since 10:00 this morning. high tide pulled through at 11:08 this morning. that coastal flood this afternoon. cohasset also experiencing some coastal flooding right now. margin street starting to flood from, again, coastal tall flooding. in association with high tides. we are dealing with king tides after the super moon. that advisory still in effect this afternoon until 2:00 p.m. around that time, we are going to deal with some heavy rain as well. minor coastal flooding. you add in the rain. we could be looking at some localized urban flooding as well on the streets here. as you head home from work as well. temperatures, pretty mild in the low 50's.

highs today. we will see those showers continuing through the evening hours. a quick look at timing with. this as we head into the afternoon, we are looking at the likely chance for showers throughout the state of massachusetts. some pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall likely. bands pulling through through the afternoon and into the evening commutes here. temperature-wise, low 50's. upper 40's further inland. this rain continues even until tonight. we do still have a slight chance for showers. even until early tomorrow morning. down shortly after dinnertime and before bedtime. by the end of the day and the end of the evening, rainfall totals between half an inch up to an inch. some spots could grab up to an inch and a half of rain. especially if we see some thunderstorms. rain likely. isolated storms certainly possible. lows tonight in the mid to upper 40's for most of us. showers continuing. we are looking at some patchy fog. we could see a little bit this evening. your 7 on 7 forecast: temperatures nice and

>> sarah: a major development today. one of the people currently behind bars in connection with the case could be home by thanksgiving. a judge overturned the murder conviction in august. >> kris: now that a judge ordered he be released from prison, while prosecutors appeal this case. nearly a decade after brendan dasi was sentenced to life ben a free man. at least for now. his attorneys say this holiday season "our food will taste all the sweeter because we know that for the first time in ten years, brendan will be celebrating in freedom with his family." >> this is a huge headline. this almost never happens. especially for a case this old. >> reporter: he was a teenager when he confessed to helping his uncle stephen avery kill a photographer in 2005. the case was featured in "making a murder," a ten-part

questions about those convictions. especially dasi's taped interrogation by police. >> be honest. you went inside, didn't you? >> yeah. >> you went in the trailer? >> mm-hmm. >> "making a murderer" has been such a revelation for brendan's case. because for the first time in ten years, he is finally getting his story listened to. report t attorneys say the confession was coerced. in august, a federal judge overturned his conviction, crying dasi's intellectual deficits. on monday, the same judge ordered his release, saying the state failed to demonstrate dasi represents a present danger to the community. >> usually, when an old conviction is overturned, there is new evidence or the real killer is found. here, everything that we know today we knew in the original case.

we are getting a look. the film depicts day of the bombings and the ensuing manhunt. it is scheduled to hit theaters on december 21. a charity campaign connected to the film has been launched also. it is called patriot's day charity campaign. according to the "herald," filmmakers have $100,000 in matching funds and are looking for recipients. it is open to nonprofit groups that support survivors, first responders and medical personnel. now it is time to find out who did it better. bri eggers went up against james white. >> sarah: they competed to see who could harvest more cranberries from the ocean spray bog out in foxboro. they each had two minutes. when the competition was over, it appeared bri collected more cranberries. even james said he thought she won. did you agree?

jennifer lynn fay was walking to meet with some friends back in 1989 when she disappeared. people retraced what is believed to be fay's last known steps. >> i appreciate all my friends and family coming out tonight and walking for jen. i can't give up hope and think that somebody will come forward. i'll find her. >> reporter: there are still no suspects. marty walsh calling for change after the deadly trench two men were killed in the accident. the mayor is proposing new rules requiring companies to report if they are in good standing with osha before receiving work permits. the two men were working for atlantic drain service which at the time, was being fined for safety violations. >> kris: a connecticut man accused of stabbing two women and then stealing their cars. police say he led officers on a chase through connecticut and into worcester last week.

one to her head. the other woman had to have surgery for her wound on her arm. they are both still recovering. also on 7 now: a shocking sight at a canal in new york state. look at this. thousands and thousands of fish turning up dead. the fish completely covering the surface of the water, drawing people from all around to figure out what's going on there. people from all across have been taking a look at this phenomenon. now officials think they have figured out what's behind this mass casualty. i have never seen anything like this. >> reporter: spectators started gathering early monday morning around a new york canal once word spread about the site. >> you could have walked across the water. it was, it was covered with... you know, fish. >> reporter: a man taking this video with his cell phone. thousand, maybe millions of bunker fish clogging the canal which was closed on one end. >> it looked like ice. solid bunker. mostly all dead.

>> reporter: bunker fish are used for bait. they have natural predators. officials believe they were chased by a large school of blue fish. . >> the water was bubbling with fish. you know, it was like something you see out of if amazon. >> they chase them in here. unfortunately, it is a dead end. they can't get out. the sheer number suck it is oxygen out of the water and they suffocate. >> reporter: by the time the locks were open and the fish could lea some fishermen scooped them up and plan to sell them as bait to lobstermen in maine. >> in long island, we are done for the year. all this bait has to get trucked up north. >> it is a natural thing. nothing goes to waste in nature. the circle of life. that is way it goes. >> kris: as a precaution,

it to make sure there are no dangerous chemicals in it. >> sarah: happening today: president obama arriving in greece. the first stop in his final visit to europe as president. the president saying that europe being strong was good for the world and for the united states. >> reporter: well, president obama certainly, hit the ground running hchlgt elanded here today in greece. immediately went into meetings with prime minister and then to a press conference where he was asked questions home. this has been the challenge for this trip. they certainly did not expect when they were planning it, that the president would spend his final foreign trip talking about donald trump. they expected to be talking about building on his legacy with hillary clinton. but he did warn about a growing movement that he says can divide people. based on race, religion, ethnicity, saying it's divisive and in fact, the 20th century was a bloodbath and

the north, northeast. temperatures in the 50's. on-shore flow and wind. that has caused some issues as well. with high tides. a lot of rain in the forecast. we are seeing some minor coastal flooding. off to our west, you see the reds and oranges. some pretty heavy rain. also, some embedded storms in the showers. we are actually seeing some of those scoot north into southern vermont as well. right now, more light to moderate rainfall here in boston. but it is going to pick up in intensity. again, we coastal flooding that we are dealing with. long wharf area, you are seeing a couple of inches of the street flooded. morrissey boulevard blocked off on both ways. this is in association with the high tides that we have seen. astronomically high tides in relation to super moon. search watts dealing with some flooding. a number of flooding reports, most of which are minor. we are a flood advisory in effect.

after that, well, our attention really turns over to some heavy rainfall and the chance for embedded storms as well. the risk for severe weather looks to stay low. we could grab an inch of rain for most locations. even closer to two inches of rain for those of us that do see that stormy weather. again, as we head into the afternoon and the early evening hours, on your way home from work, some moderate to heavy rainfall at times. this morning, it's been pretty light. mon in terms of intensity. we will see more moderate heavy rainfall. through the overnight hours, this does taper off. by the time you are headed to sleep, things are getting spottier. that continues through the overnight hours. i do anticipate this is going to wrap up before tomorrow morning. we have the slight chance for a couple of spotty straggling showers tomorrow morning. probably before the kmorng commutes. again, i do anticipate this
