homicide investigators are going to try to work with, any witnesses. >> reporter: so this area is shut down. west cottage street here in dorchester and police tell us any charges that the shooter will face will come after his interview with detectives. live in dorchester, i'm alex depratto 7 news. >> adam: bourne police have arrested an 18-year-old in the attack of 14-year-old. witness stepped in and the suspect ran away. now he is facing charges including attempted kidnapping and strangulation. he will be appearing in court tomorrow. >> kim: also on 7, a man suffering a profound loss earlier this year when he drove drunk and crashed his car killing his best friend. >> adam: he appeared in court today to change his

day for both families. -- joins us live with more. >> reporter: joseph was inspected to 3 and a half years in the house of corrections. three years of probation after that and he loses his drivers' license for 15 years. that is the price he is paying for causing the death of his best friend and devastating a family. >> all i ask is that you think twice before you act once. >> reporter: a tearful fatherle that took his son's life. >> how do you plead to this, guilty or not guilty? >> guilty. >> reporter: 20-year-old joseph castano of vermont admitting guilt in the death of his friend student craig samson. back in april kass stano was behind the wheel when he crashed into a pole in beverly killing samson who was in the passenger seat. police say kass stano's blood alcohol content was

are going to drink, that other people have your keys. >> reporter: the attorney says kass stano accepts full responsibility for an incredibly senseless and stupe itabled. >> he is not at peace even when he is sleeping, is there no escaping what he has done. he is shouldering the burden that he killed his best friend. he will life with that forever. >> reporter: someson's family members don't want revenge or retalti learn from their tragedy. >> i hope that our loss, that our loss is painful as it is, can maybe prevent somebody else from having the same loss. that's all. >> reporter: samson's father says the only reason his son got into the car was to console his friend who

altercation. i'm byron barnett, 7 news. >> kim: now to revere where a commuter train slams into a car. that actually is a car in pieces. and in anage amazing escape two people in the car walk aid way but the driver is facing charges. steve cooper is live in revere to bring us up to date on this. >> reporter: here are some of the pieces of the car that you were' talking about. it was littered all over this railroad crossing several hours ago. most of the been taken away but now that driver is facing several charges. >> it was a big bang. my buddy goes i think the train hit something. >> reporter: captured on camera the horrifying scene here in revere. a car literally sliced in half by a train when the driver tries to weave his way around a gate and flashing lights warning drivers of an oncoming train around 10:30 last night.

like, whoa. you know. i was surprised. >> reporter: the uninjured driver plus a passenger not only scramble out of the pile of metal. they walk away from the scene. police say all this follows an earlier fender bender, the driver took off from. >> poor kid was shaken up. i don't think they'll have a fender bender like that. it was a crazy situation. >> reporter: through the day crews worked to test and retest the crossing gates learned the 25-year-old driver had turned himself in where he is facing charges that include leaving the scene of an accident. residents who rushed to the scene say it's a miracle no one was killed. >> thank god no one was hurt. i can't believe how close the train goss got to the two seats. legit into the way -- >> use it as a teaching moment and we tell our young daughters never mess with the train. >> reporter: the driver who is name isn't being

chaotic intersection in boston. >> it's awful. >> reporter: where merrimack street runs into stanford street. >> why is this crosswalk such a disaster? >> reporter: signs and directions here are so conflicting and so misunderstood. they force everyone on foot and on wheels to make risky decisions. >> i was never a jay walker until i moved to boston. >> reporter: look, pedestrians get their walk light, but a few seconds later the left turning drivers get their green light. that puts them in the same place at the same time. >> you can't turn. yesterday. >> reporter: here drivers use the brand new bike lane forcing those on bikes to use the car lane. >> dangerous. >> reporter: watch this. look at all these drivers zooming right on a red arrow. city offices say you can't do that but car after car powers through without stopping. woe to those who try to obey the law. >> see how long before people honk their horns for the right turn. there we go

this irritating intersection is one part of a new federally funded project. one that is supposed to make it easier to get around boston. including those cool new bike lanes, but when we hung out with traffic experts here, they told us frankly, it's not working so well. >> the lack of guidance that both drivers and pedestrians have is making a lot of people feel nervous. >> reporter: here is the deal. city traffic officials promised this tangle is a work in progress. >> we've been tweaking it. we've been adjusting things >> up in the city's traffic control center they're monitoring the intersection to figure out the best way to make it work safely and firm for those on foot or on wheels. >> we're trying to balance it out the best we can. >> reporter: when we told them how many drivers we taped zooming illegally right on the red arrow the city decided those days are about to be over. they're making it no turn on red. >> the time will go up --

minnesota, 6-12 inches of snow likely for the upper mid west. for us not the snow. we'll deal with the cold front which will bring colder conditions up into southern new england. out ahead of the weather system, though, it's still work. chicago right now in the upper 60s cincinnati at 65. detroit at 57 so that will set us up for a mild day tomorrow. not quite as warm as chicago but still above normal by 10 cool,34-42. it's a nice one tomorrow. friday. it's 56-62. so at times the north wind may bend over to the northeast. and the come off the without so because of that i'll play conservative with boston and plymouth. upper 50s but if that north wind holds firm you will be in the low 60s in the stay. you will be in the low 60s in lakeville, north of town much the seam.
