0 degrees in nor woovld. we will trend cooler today. as winds die down and we are seeing mostly sunny skies throughout much of southern new england, it is feeling pretty nice for us. some snow showers to the upper midwest as well as some rain showers to the ohio valley. we could see some moisture in association with this. first, today our highs will be in the mid to low 40's. a little warmer than yesterday. a little more seasonable as well. we see that sunsh thanksgiving holiday, a cooler start. mostly cloudy skies throughout the day. we could wake up to some flurries, freezing drizzle making for some slick spots on the roads. i'll take a closer look at that in the full weather forecast coming up. >> kris: okay, wren. thanks so much. many of you heading out today to see family and friends. millions expected, in fact, to travel by road and also by air on the railways. we are live at logan airport with more on this holiday travel rush. what it's been like at logan

really started yesterday. it is continuing today. out here on the roads. and here at logan airport. it is that time of the year again. people heading out, hoping to miss the whole day rush. >> everything is fine. we are going to baltimore. first time flyer. we are excited. >> you are doing it on the busiest travel day of the year? >> yes, we are. we are surprising our mother-in-law. she doesn't know we are coming. department of transportation estimates at least a million passengers will be taking off from logan today. and suggests people arrive at least two hours early for their flight. >> the traffic wasn't so bad. but the line here for security is pretty long. hopefully, it will go quickly. >> reporter: nearly 49 million people will be driving this thanksgiving holiday. a significant increase thanks to lower gas prices. state leaders suggest flexibility with your travel plans. and say new technology like sensors, cameras, and the

>> reporter: police are hoping surveillance video leads to this driver who never stopped and just took off. >> it is showing what kind of world we are in right now. it is unbelievable. >> reporter: frightening moments overnight here in dorchester at the intersection of columbia road and stoughton street. outside the dublin house where two plain-clothed boston police officers were dragged down the street by the driver of a car that sped away. >> i feel very they have to be very careful. these days, these days people are crazy. two officers plus two others in uniform were taken to brigham & women's hospital. >> the four officers that went to the hospital subsequent to the injuries are non-life-threatening. we should be thankful for. that considering what's going on in the world across the united states at this period of time right now. >> investigators are scrambling to locate the car believed to be a silver or gray chevy malibu with connecticut license plates.

sad that that happened. that is not good. >> reporter: detectives are reviewing surveil listens video from several cameras perched at the intersection and also on businesses in the area. most are thankful that the officers are okay. and hope the driver turns themselves in. >> you have to abide by what they say. as long as they are telling you what is the law. then abide by what they are saying. >> reporter: crime scene leads to an arrest here. in the meantime, those four injured officers, again, are expected to be okay. we are live in dorchester this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> kris: an alleged drunk driver crashes into a police cruiser. this happened in manchester, new hampshire. that officer had to stop a car on hanover street. a white jeep began coming towards them. the driver then drove into the police vehicle hitting the driver's side of the car.

is facing several charges. a chatham man seriously injured after an accident. police say he ran his car off the road and hit a tree early this morning. look at the damage there. the man was taken by helicopter to beth israel hospital. he is charged with operating under the influence. >> christa: now to a troubling message of hate sent to a visiting professor at har vard university. it is a postcard packed with alarming anti-semitic language. we are learning where this leter might have come from. here is cricker to yeah warren. >> reporter: postcard filled with hate. >> it is just flat-out anti-semitism. there is nothing subtle about it. >> reporter: professor sanford levenson received it in the mail at harvard university. the postage indicates it came from the u.k. the language attacks his jewish heritage and references the name of a nazi board game from the 1930's. >> i think the point of the game was to get jews off the

out. >> reporter: levenson is a vocal opponent of donald trump. calling him a sociopath. he believes the hate-filled speech is a by-product of the election, and he laughs at the reference to drain the swamp at harvard law school, pointing out he is only a visiting professor. >> i'm not a genuine member of the faculty. and so if you want to drain the swamp at harvard, i'm quite literally the last person >> reporter: this professor says he reported the postcard to the dean. he also sails he does not fear for his safety. in cambridge, victoria warren, 7 news. >> kris: a man shot in roxbury. according to boston e.m.s., someone shot this victim at the walgreen's on warren street. she was rushed to boston medical sent we are non-life-threatening injuries. the victim, again, expected to be okay. and police are looking for the person who opened fire

you see the bullet hole in the glass there. investigatorss say the suspect shot a bullet through the front door of the home. fortunately thorx one was hurt. >> christa: a campus police officer at wayne state university was shot in the head while trying to stop a possible fight under way. the officer has a long way to go in his recovery.he disturbing details about that school bus crash in tennessee this week. the crash killed five young children. a mother of one of the victims is speaking out about the moments right before the tragedy. here is nancy chen. she has the latest for us now. >> nancy: yeah. a lotle of reaction there. the driver's mother tells cnn his son was terrifyinged, telling her he tried to pull children from the wreckage. however, investigators are painting a very different

n.t.s.b. officials reviewing the mangled bus after five schoolchildren were killed in chattanooga, tennessee on monday. six others were critically hurt. police arrested the driver johnthony walker, now charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving. his mother says he called her moments after the crash. >> i love you. bus driver's license in april and was involved in a minor bus crash in september. no one was hurt in that incident. a much different situation than what happened on monday. mourners gathered tuesday night for a candlelight vigil. the crowd so large, not everyone could fit inside the church. this, as parents grapple with the unthinkable. >> none of them kids deserved this. none of them. my baby had a whole life ahead of her.

then as we head into the end of the week and your holiday weekend, we do continue a rainy stretch of weather. friday, really into sunday. right now, plenty of sunshine in southern new england. you can see that cloud cover, though. moving from the west already into upstate new york. that trend will continue as the next storm system approaches. low pressure is actually sitting over nova scotia. that is in command of the wind pattern here. we are still seeing winds out of the northwest. again, things are feeling pretty nice. the wind gufss are starting to back down as we head into the lunch hour. winds still out of the northwest. not nearly as breezy as the last couple of days. here sa look at temperatures right now. 38 degrees in orange. 38 in keene. here in boston, at 42. it is feeling like mid-30's to

today. this system approaches from the ohio valley as we head into tomorrow. that will bring us the chance for a wintry mix really. even some snowflakes as well. clouds move in late tonight out ahead of the system. that will help mitigate temperatures a little bit. we will be looking at lows in the upper 20's and low 0's for most of us. winds still mild out of the north. 3-8 miles per hour. we have seen some wild turkey forecasts. anywhere from four and a half inches of snow. back in 1989 to a cold blast with highs we are not seeing such extreme weather as we head into tomorrow. tomorrow, that wintry mix is possible in the morning. my main concern really is some slick spots. for your thanksgiving travel. doesn't take much freezing drizzle to have some slippery spots out there. as we head into the rest of the thanksgiving day forecast, we are really just looking at the chance for spotty drizzle. this is going to be light rain off and on. temperatures in the mid-30's. we will have some dry periods in there as well. a look at what we could be seeing, snow total-wise.

snow or more is really north of the mass. pike and to our northwest. the berkshires and the worcester hills. for potentially, seeing some of that snow. for most of us, it is a coating or a dusting. if that. the main concern, again, is really going to be travel conditions. into the weekend, we have the chance for showers. drizzle on friday. showers saturday. and the chance for some showers into sunday as well. >> christa: thank you. former democratic nominee hillary clinton was prepping to curl up with a good book apparently on monday afternoon. rhode island with her husband, daughter and son-in-law. jessica wick took a photo with the former secretary of state. bill clinton snapped the photo. he is getting good at that. wick says she was a little nervous to meet the former secretary of state. >> kris: looks like they are all smiles there, though. just ahead, phony phone calls. impostors claim to be calling from the i.r.s. how you can avoid the trouble.

facing four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. in this case, the dangerous weapon was the car that he apparently was behind the wheel of when he dragged those two officers down the street and two other boston police officers were injured as well. he will be in court sometime this afternoon in roxbury district court. we are live from dorchester, steve cooper, 7 news. >> kris: an exhibit at salem state university temporarily shut down after outrage from students about some offeiv they say it's because of this painting of people dressed up as members of the kkk. school officials say the exhibit was created so local artists could express their feelings about the presidential election. but the students say the problem is that there was no explanation for the picture which leaves it up to negative interpretation. >> well, i'm very pleased with the fact that we are challenging our students to think critically. >> personally, it is a lot for me to deal with. along with my friends, seeing

>> kris: even though an explanation for the picture was then put up, students say it's too late. the harm has been done. in a statement, the exhibit's curator said, "art is often intended to spark discussion about societal ills. in this karx it did just. that we deeply regret the distress it has caused students." >> christa: boston police looking for a woman accused of attacking an m.b.t.a. employee. this alleged dorchester. take a good look at those pictures right there. williams college holding a prayer service for a recent graduate severely injured during a protest against the north dakota pipeline project. the woman's parents say that she lost part of her arm when police threw a grenade at her monday morning. police deny throwing any grenades. in fact, they blame the injury on other protesters who were there. sal dimasi is back home with his family today in melrose. after being releeltioned early

carolina. dimasi arrived at logan airport last night. he has received a compassionate release from prison. because he is battling cancer. the 71-year-old says he is grateful to have a chance to be with his family again. >> i just want to say how happy i am and thankful that i'm home. in boston. i want to thank everybody. for making this possible. whoever made it possible for me. >> christa: dimasi is unable to eat or care for himself. he will be on home confinement. >> kris: a tearful tribute for the woman beaten to death outside of a home in lowell. loved ones remembering gloribel orengo. many wiping away tears. still in disbelief that this 44-year-old woman was killed. prosecutors say a group of people beat orengo outside of an apartment complex after she was told to leave party over the weekend. someone then ran her over with a car and drove off. orengo's family is calling for

degeneres did receive that coveted award. the medal recipients had a little fun at the white house as well. the group got together for the man kin challenge. you see ellen in the group. diana ross. famous face there is. michael jordan. a good time had by all. >> christa: emergency crews pulling out a horse stuck in the mud all the way up to its neck. trapped for more than an hour. the horse was eventually table to stand after it was on the ground for several minutes. right now, a veterinarian is monitoring the horse's condition. so a bright sight in florida's night sky here. police have received reports there of a flashing light on monday night. the streak of light that is believed to have been a fireball, a meteor maybe that is brighter than usual. and a police officer's dash cam recorded footage of it. there have been no reports, though, of any damage from what happened. >> kris: ahead at noon, holiday rejection.

rejected as a result. officials say the tree was too little. it wouldn't be ready for prime-time. within hours, they brought in the big new tree that was cut down and placed inside the smaller tree... the smaller tree hasn't gone to waste, though. it will be displayed outside instead. i think i can. i think i can. it is a tree. branch out to weather now and see what we can come up for tomorrow's forecast. >> reporter: very nice, kris. as we head into today, well, we get to see more sunshine. you can see a couple of additional clouds pushing from the west. this trend will increase especially into the overnight hours. we are going to be stuck. currently we are stuck between two systems. one is actually off to our west. and this is headed our way. we are going to bring in some moisture into tomorrow. the other is further to our northeast. this is what brought us some windy conditions last couple of days.

we are seeing that into today. today will be much more comfortable, i think, than yesterday. your lunch hour, still having some gusts up to around 20 miles per hour. these have died down. they are not as widespread as what we were looking at even an hour ago. much more comfortable conditions. winds out of the northwest today. upper 30's in keene and orange. for the first time in a while, it is feeling like temperatures... the windchill values are cooler than our a quick look at travel weather. brett are convenient... pretty convenient. we do still have the system that is bringing snow to the upper midwest. some showers over the ohio valley. that is going to bring us some moisture as we head into your thanksgiving forecast. this evening, clouds move in ahead of the system. temperatures should moderate as we move in, that cloud cover insulates us.

wild turkeys. we have seen some wild thanksgiving day weather. we saw four and a half inches of snow in 1989. a warm blast with highs in the low 70's. in 1896. we are looking at some inconvenient weather tomorrow morning. nothing like that wild weather that we have seen. so thanksgiving actually looking a little bit cool. mostly cloudy skies. we have that chance for a wintry mix in the morning. freezing drizzle and drizzle and snow is what we will see mixed in with th the chance for spotty drizzle in the rest of the forecast. we are not talking about inches and inches of snow. we are not talking about a downpour or rain all day long. it is more just a nuisance weather in the morning. that could cause some slippery spots on the road. you see this white area. we are looking at the chance for a dusting of snow or coating. a better chance for... to an inch of snow around the northwest. including the berkshires. the worcester hills. and again, north of the mass. pike. you can see as we head into

drizzle. which continues into friday. some showers continue into saturday. we do have a little built of a wet stretch of weather ahead. >> kris: wren, thank you so much. well, they risk their lives every day to save others. >> christa: jonathan hall is live with the story. >> reporter: well, it is nice to cover some good good news for a change. the kids are getting ready to put the crayons. they are coloring some turkeys right now which is awesome. in about 20 minutes, it will be a mad house here as hundreds of children arrive to get their thanksgiving dinner. volunteers from the lynn fire department carving up turkeys today, serving a genuine feast to hundreds of needy children who attend the greg neighborhood house here in lynn. a child care provider for school-age kids. >> it is just a joy to see these kids' faces.

turkey and gravy and mashed potatoes. they keep stuffing their faces. reporth michael's dad started feeding kids at thanksgiving 28 years ago. he has since passed. michael carried on the tradition. his colleagues at lij fire got involved five years back. >> we feed about 22 turkeys. probably about a hundred pounds of mashed potatoes. corn, gravy. all the fixings. mission is to prepare thanksgiving dinner. >> there is nothing... it is a joy. the kids are here. you see the smile on their face. make sure they have a meal. our children get involved. >> the hall all decorated for thanksgiving. originally 80 kids from the greg house has now grown to 350. >> what's better than this? nothing.

the bear was a picky eater, actually. it turns out he wanted dessert. mike mike heard a noise in his garage, he didn't expect to open the door and make eye contact with this black bear. >> basically, what happened is i said to my wife, why did you leave the freezer door open? and just as i said that, he was on this side and he stood up. it was absurdly huge. reporth what surprised mike is what the bear decided to eat. >> ignored everything. there is a lot of fish in here. you see how and took it out. broke this part off. when he did it. these are my wife's little zucchini cakes. >> the bear took ice cream and cake. >> very trained to open the freezer. knew exactly what it was doing. what amazed me most, as a matter of fact, this is what the ice cream comes. in it is this type of container. he literally put it to the ground. and unscrewed it. just like. that. >> then it casually sprawled out on the driveway, unwrapped
