firefighter were both hurt. the woman had to be rescued from the billing. >> ryan: they're expected to be okay. steve cooper is on the scene with breaking details. >> reporter: this has been a difficult fire for the firefighters to battle here this afternoon. it has been going on since 1:00. if you look behind us you can see flames coming from the right side of the huge apartment building here and firefighters still wrestling with the flames but most of the heavy fire is out right instant. one resident and run firefighter have been taken -- one firefighter have been taken to the hospital. the fire broke out a little bit after 1:00, this is a five-unit apartment building at the kosher of east haverhill and prospects streets. the blaze went up quickly here. firefighters in fact were ordered out of the burning structure. the fire chief says they weren't taking any chance once they made the one

itself. residents tell us anything happened quickly and it was a pretty chaotic scene to account for all the residents who were inside. >> it was so fast. so fast. as soon as we got out, the third floor blew up on that side. so we were lucky we got out before that happened. >> reporter: were you able to get any of your person things? >> no, we grabbed the baby, the youngest kid that was there and ran o in route had heavy smoke from a distance. deputy struck a second alarm. crews have been told there was a person inside. we went inside. they were doing an interior simultaneous attacking the fire as well as searching for occupants. >> reporter: back live. you can see some of the flames coming from the billing here at the intersection of east haverhill and prospect

in fact we talked to the mayor earlier, and he was urging residents to steer clear of this area i. right now a lot of curious onlookers keeping an eye on this. the one resident of the apartment building is the a the hospital along with one firefighter. we talked with the red cross. they're telling us at least 30 residents have been displaced by the flames. the chief says damage is somewhere around $400,000. as for too early to determine that. right now the focus is on making sure the fire is out. then they'll deal with the cause after that. live in lawrence tonight, steve cooper, 7 news. >> jadiann: 7 news turning to the weather. some much needed rain moving through the area this afternoon. and we're going to expect a lot of it during the next few days. >> ryan: it could make for a rather h wet commute but we need the rain.

and picked up by police again. this is not the first drunk driving arrest. kelli o'hara is live for us with the story you will see only here. kelli. >> reporter: it was this man's 9th dui arrest. prosecutors say his 9th and he was arrested by police not once but today. in handcuffs with a bloodied and bruised face steven burns in front of a judge to hear charges he is facing. >> operati offense or greater,. >> reporter: the 52 are-year-old is accused of being drunk trying to pick up his 10-year-old sop from school. >> he learned from the principal he was concerned whether an intoxicated parent was about to drive a child home. the defendant became agitate and began yelling and swearing at the officers. he smelled of alcohol. >> reporter: according to

feel safe when his father acts like this. officers arrested the man but hours later he was released. that's when burn's other son, a man in his 20s called 911 before midnight saying his dad was driving drunk again. >> he was intoxicated. he just left the house and was drunk and driving around on a yellow motorcycle. they were' able to place the defendant under arrest. they did locate three vod pocket. >> reporter: in court the man pled not guilty. the prosecutors say this is not the first, second or even his third o. u. i. >> he has been convicted of operating under the influence of liquor approximately nine, approximately eight prior times. >> reporter: as for the 10-year-old little boy he is home safe this afternoon with his mother. burns will be in front of a judge later on in weeks. kelli o'hara, 7 news.

him self into police 234 connection with a deadly hit-and-run is in court. police say he told a 25-year-old man outside of a bar and didn't stop. dan hausle joins us live from the scene of the crash with more on what happened in court today. >> reporter: well, in court we heard the story of how this accident happened and how the suspect according to prosecutors simply took off. blind me, you can see the victim remembered on the sign of the bar where this all was seen by other customers and it was caught on video. milton gonzales in court ducking cameras as he faces charges in a deadly hit-and-run. the prosecutors says he was behind the wheel of this car caught on video plowing into a man thanksgiving night. the car never stopped. >> he fled from the scene of the accident. he didn't report anything relative to the accident for

license plates from the vehicle. >> reporter: 25-year-old serge row likona was taken off live support monday morning opinion the owner of the jaguar came forward but said gone salves borrowed the car. a friend asked him about damage to the vehicle. when asked what happened to the car the defendant reportedly said nothing happened. >> reporter: police say the man eventually told them he panic and hadn't sleptence. >> he was honest with them as to to him on that night, he indicated that there were other persons that appeared to be angry and screaming and he in fact did panic. >> reporter: the judge agreed with the prosecutors to hold the man on $10,000 bail. the man's relatives and supporters of his alleged victim's family left court without talking. his lawyer tried to get him released pointing out he did come in and talk to police

the judge wasn't buying it. the man's next court date is after christmas. dan hausle, 7 news. >> jadiann:le following a developing story out of colombia where a sixth survivor has been found under the wreckage of a plane crash. the flight was carrying members of a brazilian soccer team. at least 75 people die and investigators are trying to figure out what happened. tragedy for a brazilian soccer team after a plane carrying the tea weather in colombia. the charter jet had declared and emergency before it crashed. local officials were stunned by what happened. >> it is regrettable situation and we can confirm the accident of the plane that was' carrying the players. >> reporter: the players were a team from the top flight of brazilian soccer. they were' travelling to braise a colombian team. adding to the tragedy is

firemen came and got us. >> ryan: the wildfires are impacting dolly parton's home town. she said she is heart broken and is praying for the families affected by the fire. also on 7 investigators are trying to figure out a motive in the attack on the campus of ohio state university. the suspect was shot and killed by a police officer opinion the suspect artan is a somali born u.s. resident. investigators are trying to figure out a possible motive and they're not ruling out the suspect injured 11 people when he ran his car into a group of pedestrians and got out and started stabbing people with a butcher knife. a survivor said he was hit by the suspect's car. >> it slipped the back of my right leg and basically flipped me up in the air. i landed on concrete which at my age is not what you want to do. one of the students said you are bleeding.

he said there were footprints of blood. >> reporter: the professor was released from the hospital this afternoon jackets the driver in the deadly school bus accident in tennessee called to court. he is charged with six counts of vehicular homicide. the 24-year-old was behind the wheel of the school bus when it crashed. it happened last week in chattanooga. investigators say the driver deviated from his designated bus route when he lost control of the bus then it slammed into a utility and a tree. witnesses say walker was speeding before the crash. five children are still recovering in the hospital. >> ryan: the president-elect trump continues to weigh his options of who he wants to be secretary of state. today he mets with romney for a six time. romney was a leading critic of donald trump and the president-elect advisors voiced their opposition to romney being secretary of state. the president-elect trump made his choice for

>> jadiann: heroes honored here in massachusetts. today gov baker presented the 27th annual firefighter of the year award. firefighters from across the state were honored for their bravery. >> ryan: john cuoco has more from the ceremony in worcester. ? >> reporter: in the face of danger they are some of the brave few who not only run towards it but into it. firefighters from across massachusetts being honored

27th firefighter of the year awards. >> having this chance to get together today and to recognize and to honor their work and to tell them how much we appreciate what they've done and to say that in front of their colleagues and their families, i think for both the lieutenant governor and me it was a tremendous honor. >> reporter: firefighters in lynn were recognized for their work in the 2015 deadliest fire at a house where more than 20 people were living. they saved two women pulling them out from the flames. members of fire were also honored for their work in it's of 2016. saving an elderly woman trapped under a car at a construction site. >> they all represent i think in some respects special homes where people had to make very difficult decisions and put themselves in harm's way. and they did so immediately and without he is tension and saved other peoples lives as a result. >> reporter: all of the honorees were called into action laying their lives on the line for others.
