breaking news now. a plymouth county sheriff's deputy rushed to the hospital after a cruiser crash. it happened in rockland. another driver and a police dog were also hurt. >> nancy: dan hausle is live at the scene with the very latest. dan? >> reporter: well, we are on beech street. you can see the two vehicles involved behind me. you've got the police cruiser: and you've got a silver sedan there that is smashed up as well. you can see some of the investigators on the scene. let's show you some tape earlier.

different. because this is the scene we had here with the cruiser mashed up on the side. we are told that the cruiser had turned on its lights and sirens and was going along. a couple of cars had pulled over. then the silver sedan may have turned and pulled in front of the cruiser and been hit broadside. it is driver of the vehicle and the sheriff's department investigator were both taken to the hospital. sources tell me that the investigator was up and walking around and the person in the other vehicle may h we understand there was also a police dog in the police cruiser as well taken for some treatment. the investigator collided with a civilian car here. there are a couple of injuries. we are looking to see more indication of just how serious the injuries are. that is what you have here in rockland right now.

>> kris: some more breaking news this noon. a chaotic morning in chinatown. take a look at this video here. crews are on the scene of several man hole fires earlier. the heavy smoke pouring right out of the man holes. and into nearby buildings. fire officials say this could have been triggered by a water main break from earlier this morning. you see the firefighters waiting... wading through the knee-deep water. this was the scene with the two streets flooded. the incidents shutting down busy roadways. >> reporter: off the top, there were no injuries despite everything that has happened here this morning. take a look behind us here. you can see the area where those man holes caught on fire. again, several of them caught on fire. we do now believe that this is all connected to a massive water main break earlier. >> yeah. a firefighter hit the door. we just left.

pouring from man hole covers here in chinatown this morning. sending boston firefighters scrambling to the scene. at the same time, buildings like the boston youth building have been evacuated. >> i come from new zealand. it's been a long journally: i just got here yesterday. on the red-eye flight. i'm being told to get out. >> reporter: the massive water main break just after 5:00 this morning. sending thousands of gallons of water cascading down the street. holes which shorted out several electrical lines underground. >> a bit confusing, i guess. it would be nice if someone actually told everyone what's going on. >> reporter: through the morning, crews worked to douse the flames and deal with water in the basements of several buildings and also fix the water main itself. >> boston, out of all the major municipalities, actually, has a very low rate of water main breaks.

renovating, rehabilitating, replacing mains. >> reporter: the boston youth building we mentioned so, many people were evacuated. again, there is still a lot of water in the basement of several of these businesses and buildings here. the other problem is, as you mentioned, the traffic issue. it is not raining right now. it is expected to rain this afternoon. a lot of rain. as you look at the area now, you can see it is all sealed off right now. the boston fire commissioner joe finn remains on the scene right now. the boston police commissioner was here as well. william evans. again, this whole area remains sealed off right now. a big mess. there is a lot of cleaning up to do. the other concern here is for carbon monoxide levels in some of the buildings here. so firefighters were literally going building to building with gauges and meters to check on those levels. just to make sure everything is safe. but a fluid situation right

it is continuing. this area remains sealed off. boston police are asking motorists to try to steer clear of the area if possible. we are live this afternoon in chinatown, steve cooper, 7 news. >> anchor: the dighton fire chief accused of using town money to buy women's clothing. he was suspended without pay. >> reporter: and nicole, according to court documents, these purchases totaled $239. they have landed the chief in the town's board of selectmen held a meeting, trying to decide what action to take. as you mentioned, they decided to suspend the fire chief without pay right now. according to court documents, this came to light when a town accountant told a state police detective it looked like the word "women's" had been whited out and the word "men's" written over it.

detectives suspected the chief bought the items for a girlfriend. the dighton's board of selectmen says the chief has broken their trust. >> he has offended not only this board but the taxpayers thofer town. whether it be $235 or $235,000. >> reporter: he than fire chief for 11 years in the town. he was not here for the meeting at town hall today. again, he has been suspended without pay. he faces a criminal investigation also as well, though. charges of larceny under $250 and also violating public employee standards of conduct. the board of selectmen says they will now be doing a full audit of the fire department's

live at the scene with the very latest. dan? >> reporter: well, it seems like the other driver anybody more seriously injured. that can be kind of figured out also from looking at the wreckage behind me. you see the silver sedan was hit on its side by the sheriff's department cruiser there off to the left. you can see the damage to the front right side of the cruiser. no details yet on exactly what happened. we have some indication that the cruiser may have put on his lights and siren and just took off and front of them. we understand, though, that the sheriff's deputy forecast and his dog and the operator of the other car were all taken to the hospital. sources on the scene do tell me, however, that the sheriff's deputy was up and walking around after the accident. there was an attempt to take other operator out by med-flight. because of the weather conditions, that was unable to than. there is an indication there may be some serious injuries

into the afternoon. this is going to continue to expand throughout southern new england. we also have another band to our south that will push this way. that is going bring us really showers through the evening hours. a closer look at who is seeing that. already, some reports of an inch of rainfall in some pockets. billerica, seeing more moderate rainfall. the southern end of the band offering more light rainfall. this is going to continue to push into the boston metro area. once it does, we stay soggy through the afternoon. tomorrow morning. a quick look at temperatures. we are pretty mild. around average highs. a little above average. our other concern this morning has been fog. we do have reduced visibility where we are seeing those showers. with the fog on the cape and the islands starting to let up for us. fog is going to be an issue forecast as we head into the next 24 hours as well. while we are mixing this out across the cape and the islands, we will be looking at more fog as we head into tonight and tomorrow morning.

we are not through it yet. we are going to continue to see this rain push in from the southwest. as it does so, we will fill out throughout southern new england with these rain showers. and then see that through the overnight hours actually into tomorrow morning. we have a wet end to the month of november here. as we head into the afternoon, we are looking at the likely chance for rain showers. especially by mid to late afternoon. widespread rain showers. where you see those oranges and yellows, that is where we see the potential for some heavy rainfall. that does line up with evening commutes and dinnertime. we continue to see that wet

still some pockets of heavy rainfall. look how quickly this pushes out of here. by 8:00 or 9:00, we are seeing plenty of sunshine. nice weather on the way. we keep it that way through the end of the workweek here. highs today in the upper 40's. low 50's. it is going to be breezier as we head into the overnight hours. and even some gusts up to around 25 miles per hour. we have seen patchy fog this morning. we could see it even by the time you are headed home from work. mid to upper 40's tonight. going to be blustery tonight and tomorrow. sustained winds tomorrow up to 10 or 20 miles per hour. take a look at these temperatures. we are back into the mid-50's as we head into the month of december. in terms of raferl totals, we definitely needed that rain. we are not quite through it
