>> anchor: now at 7 a mother stabbed in brockton. police talk to her teenage son. >> reporter: another round of rain in southern new england tonight. >> anchor: the evening commute feeling the impact. >> anchor: a local fire chief in hot water. what an investigation uncovered. >> anchor: the pats preparing for the rams. some key players weren't at practice. >> anchor: and. >> i was pretty upset. i was cring. >> anchor: her daughter went to the school nurse for a bump and a bruise. but the nurse gave her the wrong medicine. >> anchor: now the family wants answers. >> 7 news at 7:00 starts now. >> anchor: police are investigating the stabbing death of a woman inside her own home. we know that detectives are talking to the woman's son.

alex deprado live at the scene to bring us up to date. >> reporter: no charges have been filed against that 18-year-old as he's continued to be questioned in his mother's death. the house is surrounded by crime tape. and it was a neighbor who heard screams and came to help. >> she was wailing and screaming. and she did say 911. 911. >> reporter: when mary ann montero dialed knew what she was calling for. she knew it was bad. >> then when she started coming to the house i came outside. she grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards the house. >> reporter: brockton police got that 911 call about 9:00 for a woman needing help. a mother lying stabbed multiple times and her son inside. >> it's horrific to see what can

happened. a mother son relationship for it to end this way. it's tragic. >> reporter: after she called for help she didn't walk through the front door and there's a reason why. >> he came lunging through the kitchen at the door where we were standing. i pulled the grand mother out of there. you're not going in. i kept pulling her away from the house until we were down the street here. >> reporter: and to be clear the woman that mary ann mo helping was a grandmother here who had come and seen the scene and called for help. again the woman is dead here. apparently the mother of this 18-year-old. that 18-year-old continues to be questioned tonight. live in brockton alex deprado 7 news. >> anchor: 7 news now with your weather. it's a double dose of rain throughout new england for a second straight evening. you see on the radar that system

>> anchor: what are we expecting tonight. get to chief meteorologist jeremy reiner to time it out for us. >> reporter: more rain on the way. even a bit of yellow up toward melrose indicating steady rain fall. that continues out along the route 2 corridor. the south coast the rain has temporarily shut down and i think for the rest of the evening that's how it will go. on and off rain. some of that rain is going to be tonight as we expand the view and the eastern seaboard from this weather system crawling to the eastern seaboard the last couple of days. you notice here this is the back edge. you notice that there's a narrow plume of steady rain. overnight tonight. but it's moving at a good clip now. that will move the heaviest of the rain out of here before the

that broken piece of water pipe and now it's a clean up effort. fake potentially toxic smoke seeping out of man hole covers on the edge of china town. forced people staying at the boston youth hostel out in the rain. >> trying to get shut eye. told to get out. >> reporter: the man hole fires were sparked by an early morning water main break that thousands of gallons of water rushing down washington street. it crept into the ground and basement levels of businesses and apartment closing. >> voluntary closure of 12 businesses. working with them to assess their damage to product and to their spaces. >> reporter: roads in the area were shut down for hours. fire fighters used a special foam to shut down the flames. >> hopefully the works.

>> reporter: the day long ordeal adding to traffic issues in a busy area. gives you a great look at the section of pipe that burst. at this point it's unclear what caused the water main break. >> some of these pipes have been in the ground for decades maybe a century long. that's something we're working on. >> reporter: as of about an hour ago the water has been turned back on. they spent the day pa replacing that small piece of pipe that ruptured this morning. we are told by city officials the plan here although it doesn't look it now to have all these roads back open by the morning commute. tim caputo 7 news. >> anchor: more news tonight a sheriff's cruiser crashing into a car in rock lin. the plymouth county sheriff's deputy had on his lights while

cruiser. the third took a left. the officer smashed into that car. it's a busy street where a lot of accidents happen. >> i heard this bang. i'm familiar with that noise. it's frightening to hear it. our street as i told you is one that's very busy. always accidents. cruisers always flying up the street. >> anchor: the deputy and his canine partner both had minor injuries. a driver slams into a bar in wall of jp ryan's tavern on brockton avenue. >> anchor: also on 7 a fire chief off the job tonight. accused of using the town's money for personal expenses including buying women's clothing. brandon gunnoe live in diet ontoexplain. >> reporter: the chief is

buy clothes for his girlfriend. he says they're for him. he prefers a slim fit. chief rod rick is off the job without pay accused of using taxpayer's money to buy women's clothing. >> i feel betrayed. >> reporter: then filed paperwork to be reimbursed including a women's rain coat a compression cam sol, cap pree work out pants. rod rick was embarrassed to be buying women's clothing. claimed he lost 30 pounds and they fit him better. the chief demanded that he try the clothing on for the trooper to prove it fit him. it did but tightly. the capri pants were in his girlfriend's closet. which he denies. >> done an outstanding job for

>> anchor: a scare at school in black stone. a mother says her daughter was given the she went to see the school nurse. wound up getting a dose of ritalin. >> anchor: the nurse feels bad and has apologized. the girl's mother wants to make sure this doesn't happen again. >> reporter: practicing her gymnastic moves. she and her family had a big scare tuesday when the nurse at the elementary school in black stone gave madison the wrong medicine.

i was crying. i couldn't get their fast enough. it was raining out. it was scary. i'm glad she's okay today. >> reporter: she went to the school nurse after she hit her elbow during lunch. >> and then i fell backwards. i fell right there. >> reporter: the nurse was supposed to give madison motrin but gave her ritalin instead. >> another at the school. she thought madison was the girl. >> reporter: because they looked alike? >> yes. >> reporter: the nurse admitted her mistake right away. the school superintendent said the nurse immediately called poison control notified the principals and called the parents. he reviewed all protocols and procedures so this mistake never happens again. we're told the school nurse is

the nurse will not be facing any discipline. >> now 7 weather with chief meteorologist jeremy reiner. >> reporter: a lot of the heavy rain was focussed down southeastern massachusetts. it's quiet down there. tonight most of the rain so far has been focussed mass pike north. all about the season of giving here. spreading the wealth. rain all over new england. at times it's heavy. night. the shadings of blue indicating less than an inch of rain. that's going to change into the evening with the several batches of rain top contend with. this is the last of the bunch right here. moving through virginia and north carolina. and as we advanced the timeline for you there is likely to be a burst of heavier rain around midnight.

on the roads around midnight tonight it could be pockets of heavy rain. we do anticipate moving that rain out of here before the morning commute. 7:00 tomorrow morning lingering clouding. puddles from tonight's rain. a little bit on the sea coast and the cape. even in these locations it's likely to move off shore within the hour. and also you notice the dryer air. hartford bridge york city. how much more rain is on the way. most of us a half an inch in some locations an inch of beneficial rain. unlike last night where the temps briefly jumped into the upper 50s tonight they stay put. haven't moved that much since mid-afternoon. chilly wind off the water. east wind 10 to 15 miles per hour in boston, south shore and the cape. sunshine does return.
