actually already we're losing cloud cover especially to our southwest. drier air pushing in. the showers scooting out of here they are moving at the fast pace too. frontal system to the north at this point. northeast. rear night we're predominantly dry. further to the northwest and couple further to the east across the atlantic. but here we're looking at dry skies. we will keep it that way through the rest of the day here. temperatures are pretty mild. they've been varied this morning. low-to-mid that's where nashua is right now. to the southeast temperature warmer close to 60 degrees in hyannis. as we welcome the month of december and starting out meteorological winter. it doesn't feel like winter with the sunshine and temperatures in the mid 50s. this will take the temperatures down a notch in terms how it feels. we lack at breezier day today. gusting up to 25 miles per hour.

enjoy the temperature as cool air greets us soon. lowell police responding to police of a school bus crash over on mammoth road. there's few details right now. it appears there were only minor if any injuries. that appears to be good news. we have a crew on the way to scene. we'll bring you updates as we continue to get information into the 7news room. >> we're following more breaking news today. a washington state polic accused of killing him. he was responding to domestic call when shot. nancy chin is live in our control room with the breaking details. officials say that suspects shot just a few hours ago after that 11-hour stand off inside the home. police were able to get the homeowner and her two children out of the house safely. they this officer was shot multiple times while responding to domestic violence call there wednesday evening.

at a local hospital. >> we suffered a great loss. i think the community has suffered a great loss. and then i don't know how to put that into words. the procession of law enforcement officers then escorted officer's body from the hospital to the medical examiner's office. and officers say they have found multiple weapons inside that home. in the control room, nancy chin. 7news "today in new england." we're following more breaking news. here locally wrongton police searching for two suspect on the run after they led police on a chase overnight. started when an officer pulled over the vehicle and the driver sped off. during that pursuit the suspect's vehicle and cruiser collided so the driver and passenger jumped out of their car and ran off. the officer suffer minor injured in the crash. commuter rail crashes into a parked car near the west street station tracks. the fire chief tweeting out this photo of the scene. you can see the car has been

no injuries have been reported. also on 7 a mother murdered. her son is charged. a relative she said knew something was wrong and begged a neighbor to call 911. jennifer eagan is live in brockton where that teen, jen, is set to face a judge later today. that 18-year-old suspect will go before a judge here sometime later today. neighbors describe a very disturbing scene. they say this teenager sitting outside the home after the attack. investigators are still trying to figure out a motive. >> i knew it was something bad. only because she's whaling. and screaming and she did say 911. 911. mare yann dialled 911. she just grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards the house. at this point in time i know it was to get her daughter out of the house.

break in worst's chinatown. when the water receded there were even more problems for firefighters. victoria warren has more from the scene. >> big black smoke billowing into the air. manhole fires burning under ground. streets flooded in chinatown after a massive water main break. carbon monoxide levels hitting dangerous level. the alarm went off. >> more than 100 people evacuated. it was hard to underground fire would spread. typically what manhole fires they travel in sequence. it just started popping down the street. all started when 20-inch pipe burst spewing thousands of gallons of water shutting down several businesses. just oo precautionary method. there were 3-4 feet of water in basement. we want to make sure everything is clean and proper before we open it. the all-day event snarled traffic and eventually crew pulled out and replaced the

case of ageing infrastructure and said even though the problem is fixed. it will take much longer for things to be business as usual in chinatown. a lot of the business will be closed for quite sometime. there's a lot of water in the basement. inspectional services have to give the all clear before businesses are allowed to reopen. crews continue to work on the street. they've got most streets open. but there are still lane closures. in chinatown. victoria warren. 7news "today in new england." a mosque in rhode island hit with threatening letter. the handwrite sing in the same is form and the stamp is even from california. one member there said the letter addressed to quote the children of satan and describes what their future could look like. >> the new president-elect will more things what hitler did to the jewss. this is really alarming. you are concerned about your

kids, your family. the mosque is given the letter to fbi to investigate. happening today the west rocksbury pipeline is set to start transmitting gas despite two years of protest. on monday walsh and other city officials sent letters to the company that owns the pipeline accusing them of breaking their promise to share safety plan. the security plan is posted outside the quarries entrance. redding police break-s ins over the last two months. this 24-year-old targeted retail stores as well as the redding public library. he's now facing several charges in connection with the break-ins. this teen will be back in court for pretrial hearing. michelle carter is charged with involuntary manslaughter. earlier this month the judge ruled the 20-year-old statements to investigators as well as information from her cell phone

more than an inch in bedford. here's a look at where we are at. actually precip wise we fall short. en though we had wed end we still have a drought. and we still had a deficit in the month of november. definitely not hitting our average rainfall totals which are close to around 4 inch. here's a look at part of the reason we still have the february we were above our precip values. every other month we've been well below average precip values. you can see that so far for the year of 2016 we're still looking at rain deficit of 10 inches. we have a ways to go. we could chip away at that in the month of december. most likely we end the year with still that drought. you can see today we're already losing those showers. this system tracks further to the northeast. bringing even some snow to

sunny sky. we ride out the work week with breezy weather. mild temperatures. we see the sunshine. you can see breaks in cloud cover. a little bit more cloud cover as you head to our northwest. many we see peeks of sunshine throughout the day today. temperature wise a mixed bag. we start with warm front stretched out to the south making for much warmer temperatures to the southeast. still about 60 degrees in hyan temperature have warmed from the low 40s. we have varied temperatures today. highs well above our average highs. we talk about highs in the mid-to-upper 50s. 56 degrees milton. 57 in quincy. 58 degrees as you head further to the cape as well as the island close to 60 degrees out that way. comfortable forecast. our really only thing to watch out for are the breezy conditions. light to heavy jacket good idea. i will choose a light jacket.

the officers pulled this man in the nick of time right after this fiery crash. the whole thing was caught on camera. get out of the car. officers rushing in to help after a man crashed his car into trees in connecticut. range rover was off the side of the roadway into the woods. it hit trees. the driver was p front seat. >> i can't. come on. come out through the back seat. the car was on fire driver trapped inside. the officer moved in with fire extinguishers in hand. instincts kicked in knowing they only had moments to react. >> let's go. let's go. there was only one way to get the driver out.

throughout most of southern new england. more cloud cover out that way across the berkshires. we have again quiet condition. temperature wise it's hard to believe we talk about the first day of mete logical winter here. we're at 50 degrees here in boston. 53 in plymouth. 60 degrees almost across the cape and islands. cooler air further to northwest as warm front set up further to the south this morning. really delineating different temperatures to the north verses to south. we're working that out as we head into the afternoo highs in the mid 50s in rowel as well as middleton. milford and the low-to-mid 50s. framingham in the mid 50s as well. you can see taunton in the upper 50s. we are talking about temperatures closer to 60 degrees. very unseasonable for this time of year. how unseasonable. we're about ten degree physician not more above our average highs. get outside and enjoy the sunshine warm air. as we head into the end of your work week we're still above average tomorrow.

treating their way to credit card information. you don't realize it's happening until you get the bill in mail. hank investigates these credit card crimes. >> reporter: he thought he was only buying gas at this quincy pump. but on this man's credit card there were charges for tuxedo, jewelry and furniture. joe wants to hide his identity. but listen to this. how much did they charg account? >> $1,000. >> $1,000. >> we just called the police and everything. that's what we are supposed to do. how did it happen. >> look here inside the very pump that joe used police found this computer cable, criminals had attached it to the credit card reader. that transmitted joe's credit card data to bad guys who downloaded it to their computers. >> it may me angry. expert show how they pry open

often using a pump further from the surveillance camera then they install the cables. >> you unplug it from one side of the other. plug your unit in. they close up the pump and wait for the next victim. >> and then it will read whatever this reads. and take the information >> and take the information. >> the gas station get paid but your credit card info is swipped. >> and when would the gas station learn about it? >> gas sta >> may never know >> no. >> detective told us the computer assisted crooks are fast. these can be put on within minutes. and their schemes pay off. >> a loft money is lost quickly before they realize it. >> we have learned the so-called gas pump skimming is on the rise in massachusetts. they are really everywhere you have to watch out. now the state is pushing gas stations to protect their pumps
