an abrupt start to the arraignment had court officers rushing into the holding area. according to sources, the suspect briefly became uncooperative. >> assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. >> reporter: that is 18-year-old frantz polynice of brockton, pleading not guilty to murdering his mother, inside the family's home in brockton yesterday afternoon. >> the report defendant's mother, had been stabbed multiple times above about the face, neck, and torso area. by this defendant, mr. polynice, her 18-year-old son. >> reporter: the suspect's grandmother was in the house at the time but wasn't hurt. the mother of polynice's betion friend from high school is heart-broken. >> it is so hard for us to believe. we were just saying yesterday,

then we get this call. this is unbelievable. >> reporter: polynice graduated from brockton high earlier this year where he played football. the motive here remains a history, the district attorney says. >> what would lead an individual to go and do that sort of activity? i don't know. >> i have no comment that the time. this is a really tragic situation. we are still learning a lot. we have nothing further to say at this time. >> reporter: all right. record up until now. this murder charge, he is being held without bail. he will be back at the courthouse next month. by then, we are told, prosecutors could have a better idea on what touched all this off in the first place. we are live in brockton this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> kris: breaking news as well. 11 hostages are now free after being held at gunpoint at a bank in jacksonville, florida. you see this is an active scene.

two hours. swat teams and negotiators were brought in to try to gain control of the situation. no word yet on any injuries. >> nancy: a suspect in the murder of a washington state police officer shot and killed after an 11-hour standoff at a home in tacoma. police were able to get the home owner and her children out of the house safely. the officer was shot multiple times while responding to a do domestic violence call wednesday evening. >> we have suffered a great loss. and suffered a great loss. i don't know how to put that into words. >> nancy: a procession of law enforcement officers then escortsed the officer's body from the hospital to the medical examiner's office. officers say they have found multiple weapons inside that home. and right now, brockton police are searching for two suspects after they led police on a chase overnight. it started when an officer pulled over their car and the driver took off. during the chase, the

>> nancy: a teen back in court for a pretrial hearing, accused of encouraging her friend to commit suicide. >> kris: nicole oliverio is live in taunton. nicole, what is the latest? >> reporter: well, kris, both sides are getting ready for this case to finally go to trial. they are trying to wrap up some last-minute motions. the defense wanted an expert to talk about an antidepressant says both teams were taking. one where he says the side effect was suicidal thoughts. as the judge tries to move motions along, pushing for a february trial, the defense attorneys asked for an expert who can explain the effects of an antidepressant drug. >> i'm asking to see how to engage an expert to tell me how select sa affects a person's thinking. >> reporter: michelle carter

prosecutors say she encouraged 18-year-old conrad roy of fair haven to kill himself through text messages. defense lawyers say both she and roy were taking the drug selexa. >> it's been proven by the manufacturer itself that it creates teenagers an increase in their suicide. so i they jury needs to hear that information. >> reporter: judge disagreed. >> you have not indicated whether he complained to anyone about any effects of the selexa. we don't have any of that. i am not satisfied that you have met this reasonableness burden. >> reporter: defense lawyers say the drug was in roy's system when he took his own life. >> conrad roy was taking it, but the judge didn't know. he didn't think i was clear enough as to why it was relevant to the case. ly spell that out next time convince the judge why i think

>> reporter: also today, the defense will get access to roy's facebook page. apparently, there is about 20,000 documents to go through. the defense is hoping to find conversations that he had with other friends about suicidal thoughts. we are live in taunton, 7 news. >> nancy: a man wanted for more than a dozen break-ins over the past two years. reading police have identified him now. the 24-year-old targeted retail stores as well as the reading public library. he is now facing draes chaos in chinatown now being cleaned up after yesterday's water main break there. the water main triggering a man hole fire there as well. you were there on the scene. >> nancy: i was. what crews are doing now to clean up the mess left behind. thick black smoke billowing into the air. man hole fires burning underground. streets flooded in chinatown after a massive water main break. carbon monoxide levels hitting

in this video. at least three tornadoes ripped through northern alabama according to the national weather service. in georgia, three suspected tornadoes touched down right near the metro atlanta area. no one was injured, but residents described the terrifying afternoon. >> it was so much wind. it was... everything was just flying everywhere. it was bad. >> really bad. right here in front of us. really, really bad. >> the wind was like... the whole door just shook. >> kris: officials say the drought this year has caused more trees to fall than typical tornadoes. the dollywood foundation is giving financial assistance to tennessee residents who lost their homes in the deadly wildfires from this week. dolly parton raised in the great smoky mountains says she believes charity begins at home. >> now, i have always believed that charity begins at home. and that's why i have asked my dollywood companies, including the dollywood theme parj park, my dinner theater atrarx,

about what we saw as well. that definitely helps. here is where we are for the month of november. in terms of rainfall, we still fall short. we saw two and a half inches of rain. on average, we see closer to four inches for the month of november. that does still put us at a defer sit for this month. in terms of rainfall throughout the year of 2016, you can see just two months where we were above our average highs for our precip values. you see february, october, we were above average precip rates. every other month, we are been below. inches. we need more moisture. potentially, a couple of sprinkles over the berkshires. aparts from that, we are seeing plenty of sunshine. a few additional clouds through our northwest. throughout the day, a mixture of sun and clouds. it is going to be breezy, though. wind gus up to 25-30 miles per hour possible today. while we are mild. it is still a little nippy out there. not feeling, though, like the first day of meteorological winter.

>> nancy: a dangerous drive in rhode island. a driver allegedly speeding and streaming this whole thing on-line. police say he ended up crashing his car and now officers are asking questions. that driver was seriously injured after police say he was driving faster than a hundred miles an hour. this man, as i mentioned, streaming his wild ride wednesday morning through the streets of providence, rhode island. all on facebook live. he was weaving in and out of traffic at one point. nearly hitting several cars. police say he then spun out before crashing into a jersey barrier. rescue crews had to pull the man out of the car after the crash. traffic backed up at least for two hours right there. and you are taking a look at here... well, the driver is listed in critical condition. no word if he will face any charges yet. caught on camera: two men vandalize a grocery store in philadelphia with anti-trump graffiti. a philadelphia lawyer has been identified as one of the two suspects responsible for that

air-conditioning units outside an apartment complex. you think they were trying to hide? maybe. hard to hide a cow. no animals were hurt. animal control brought them back to where they belong. >> nancy: glad they stayed safe. and didn't have a cow about the situation. isn't that good? >> reporter: we are drying out. a quick recap of the moisture. worcester seeing close to 2.5 inches of rain. plymouth, around two inches of rain. that is what we saw here in boston. there was a helpful for the definitely. and a deficit for the month of november, 2016. so precipitation for last month was just about 2.5 inches. that is more than an inch under what we typically see. we typically see about four inches of rainfall. despite the wet end to the month, again, still a drought in place. it will take a lot more than a couple of inches of rain to get past this drought. you can see those green bars that are up above the different months of the year.
