their first two albums. >> we cried the first three days. i literally have a picture of glenn when we played him "our prayer." i have a picture of him laying on the floor. all he could do was collapse on the floor. that was his reaction. we made this record really fast. we worked our tail off. >> it's a friendship. but he's almost like a father figure to us. because when we were just 19, he was there and protecting us and helping us grow. >> and he makes us believe in ourselves, you know? he gives us that faith. >> yeah. >> and we can't believe the ideas that he gets. and he loves our ideas too. so it's like this symbiotic thing, you know? >> to lead off the album, wilson phillips rerecorded a fun song from the 1970s. >> they said, well, it's called "i wish it could be christmas every day." and it was this long pause. >> right. >> and we all said, okay. tell us more. and we listened to it i guess a
5:10 am
and all of us emailed and texted each other. it's great. it's different. it's quirky. totally unexpected. but it's a great song. well, i wish it could be christmas every day when the kids get singing and the band begins to play >> another highlight on "christmas in harmony" is the group's cover of the beach boys song "our prayer" from the legendary album "smile." >> we were trying to brain storm what we were going to put on the record. and it just hit me one day. i was listening to "our prayer." actually, playing it for the children. and, you know, trying to see their reaction. and i said, oh, my goodness. this is like a really spiritual song. this would be amazing for the christmas record. so i presented it to the girls and glenn. and everyone said, oh, yeah, we have to do this. now baby come on now honey
5:11 am
"christmas in harmony" features some great originals like "warm loving christmastime" written by carney's husband. >> he is just a really great songwriter. and he wrote a great pop christmas song. i'm really glad that we did it because i think we sound great on it. it has this really fun, upbeat vibe like "wish it could be christmas every day." it's real pop and real catchy. and chynna always loved it. >> chynna contributed a song of her own. "christmastime." >> it was just this melody that popped in my head. i thought it had a really neat energy. i thought i'll just go in there and run it past the girls. and everyone got the bug because it's a very sort of catchy little melody. and we sat down and finished off the song, all of us together. and the original track was a lot longer. we ended up adding another verse and cutting the bridge. so it had a few makeovers.
5:12 am
think it turned out real nice. christmas time is such a wonderful time >> oh, i need another copy. chynna, carney, and wendy believe that getting together to record "christmas in harmony" is a gift they all really appreciate. >> we just sense each other. that's how we sing. i think that's why we have such a good blend. we know each other so well. doing. ever. practice. i just think we're locked in. >> i just feel so honored and blessed we got to do this and we got to make a christmas record. and i just pray that it's a staple in people's homes every christmas. soon it will be christmas day >> hi, we're wilson phillips. happy holidays, america! minnesota may be known for

these minpanesotapasinnesota parade goers love it. >> it's great fun to come here with these great people. >> when you're on the float and you see all of the people, mainly the little kids, their eyes get big. especially when they see the characters coming down, the animals and things like that. and it's an experience. >> merry christmas! hello, everyone! ho, ho, ho! it snow when we finally kiss good night how i hate going out in the storm but if you really hold me tight all the way home i'll be warm the fire is slowly dying and my dear we're still goodbying and as long as you love me so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow oh, it doesn't show signs of stopping

"happy holidays america." 'twas the night before christmas and all through the borough, the children were snuggled, their presents wrapped thorough. but this tale is not about presents or santa or ponies. it's about three dudes, three bros, three ride or die ponies. >> these three buddies have a tradition on christmas eve that goes back 10 years now. and what you're seeing in this
5:18 am
time that they are going to have this big night out on christmas eve. >> it's like a mystical party called the nutcracker ball that takes place on christmas. it's kind of like a secret. it's supposed to be best party in the world. we are always trying to find it and we can't find it. it kind of becomes like our white whale on christmas. >> if you look at the old gene wilder-eddie murphy combos, you really love those movies because the characters were so unique and endearing. like you could identify with those guys and really want to go on that journey with those guys. >> all right. so i called the number on these tickets. they don't give out the address until like 10:00, so that gives us like several hours to hit as many christmas traditions as possible. >> let's do it. >> and this is the going to be the best night of our lives. >> awesome. >> it will be like the new christmas tradition. >> the guy i play in the movie, ethan, he kind of is clinging to that past.

so oh, oh, oh santa, santa it's christmas "say it's christmas" is really about giving of yourself all through the year and not just christmastime. there's different energy around the holidays. people are more giving of themselves and their money and their hearts. and really the song is about making that extended all watty through the year and not just around christmas. >> we had a great band on the record. we cast it very soulful. we had booker t. jones, who is in the rock-n-roll hall of fame. and willie weeks. and just a lot of soulful musicians that brought out what i really wanted to bring out in this record. and it was that kind of older, memphis -- a little bit on the gospel side every now and then. you get that timeless feel. that's kind of the vibe, i guess, of the whole studio

>> i think that any album of mine emotionally i always want to touch on every human emotion. and especially during christmas. it is a roller coaster ride of emotions. i know for me, i get really, you know, sentimental, and then i get so happy because the kids are around and we're opening gifts. and then you start thinking back to your childhood. and, you know, sometimes you can get sad. and it's really for me personally always a roller coaster ride. i wanted to bring that out with the record. home for the holidays i believe i missed each and every thing come on and play funny things and turn on every love light in the place >> it's a song that not a lot of people have covered over and over again. it's been covered by a few people, but it's not the typical one.
