3 developing tonight 3 it's no surprise our roads are in bad shape, but now we are learning the constant rain, can actually make those conditions even worse. 3 fox carolina's rebecca atkins has been looking into this for us, she's live along i-85, and rebecca you spoke with a road engineer today, what did he have to say? 3 cody as you know we've had a lot of rain, both last year and already into this year, and he says the rain can seep into cracks on the road as well as under and cause a lot of havoc. 3 it's an issue many drivers across south carolina have with the roads, they simply think they're in bad shape, and the spartanburg county road engineer says not enough maintenance is done as there should be. ron kirby the spartanburg engineer says you may notice cracks on the road while driving, he says the rain can both get underneath the cracks, causing the asphalt to break apart as well as seeping into them which causing the cracks to expand. but one of the biggest issues people have are the potholes. 3 3 3 "you can't see and especially when the potholes fill up with water, you definitely don't know that they're there." there."
