3 power companies 3 power companies are also on alert for the storm that's coming. coming.on wednesday-- nearly 15-hundred people across our area were without power because of the snow fall and wet weather--but thats nothing compared to what ice can do. duke says *there are fewer problems with buried power lines--like the ones on main street in downtown greenville. but most areas still have above ground power lines. because of that its all hands on deck starting today. 3 3 3 3 "we have our line technicians and other team mates and crew mates who are getting ready. they're making sure they have the gear they need if they have to spend several nights in the field and making sure they have whatever they need to respond to whatever mother nature throws their way." 3 duke energy recommends having a plan if your power does go outthey say to have a battery operated radio or tv.food.. water...and try to have an alternate heat source or generator to keep warm. 3 3 we're expected to learn more

officer involved shooting in hart county georgia.what we do know.. is deputies say they opened fire on a person armed with a machete. 3 deputies were called out to a domestic complaint on "old reed creek road" wednesday night. they say a man was shot by an officer after he confronted them with a machete. the man was taken to the hospital-- but has since been released an taken into custody.we talked with a neighbor who says she can't believe what happened. 3 3 3 "it really shocks me because i never would have thought anything like that to have happened over there. they seem like a nice couple. you know, i've talked to her several times." times." 3 "of all the people tonight, i never would have thought anything would have happened over there. they seem like nice folks, you know?" know?"no deputies were hurt. 3 3 governor nikki haley says south carolina is on the right track. track.in her sixth -- "state of the state" wednesday the governor focused on what's being done to improve the education system-- business growth-- and job creation in the state.her speech also follows a historic year for south carolina.she recognized the loss of senator clementa

news on fox carolina--we're taking a live look at...downtown asheville 3 3 there are few 3 things more dangerous in winter weather..than if you have to head out and drive in ice and snow.. snow..if you do have to hit the roads..we talked to some experts with tips on how to be as safe as possible.. possible..fox carolina's joe gagnon is live from the d-o-t office in spartanburg with more.. 3 the roads have been prepped for this weather, and highway patrol urges that if you don't have to be on the roads this weekend they say just don't

them.3 we talked with corporal bill rhyne and he says the only instance you should be driving on nasty roads is if you are in some sort of emergency..and he says that doesn't mean you don't like what kind of food you have in your house, but some sort of serious emergency that you need to get to...if you must leave..rhyne also says make sure you give someone you know a heads up on where you are going.. 3 3 make sure you call somebody to know when you're leaving.. your estimated time of arrival ... and the route youre going to take so if you do not get to that location we have an idea of where to start looking.. looking..we also spoke with mike renner..of the b-m-w performance driving center that trains people how to drive on slippery roads..he says that if your car starts to slide on the roads to turn your wheel into the slide..if your car fishtails right..turn your wheel right..and vice versa..

instructor at the b-m-w performance school...he says no matter what size car you drive ice can easily take over the wheel of your car. he says if your car starts sliding, turn your wheel where your car is sliding..so if you car is sliding to the right..turn your wheel to the right...he says the most important piece of advice, is to keep your eyes in the direction you want the car to travel. 3 3 3 unfortunately most people look at the ditch they are about to run into and that's where they end up. so always stay focused on where you want to go. try not to panic if the grip comes back off course and you put the correction in you have to be ready to take the correction out.. out..he went to to say all of this is much easier said than done..but you can take classes at the performance track on their slip pad to try these tips out yourself in a safe environment..that way you know what it feels like if it
