3 one person is dead, a second person is hurt along with a greenville police officer following a crash tonight- it happened along north pleasantburg near villa road- 3 and we know 385 heading into downtown is also shut down at this hour - -and fox carolina's rebecca has been following this crash tonight--she joins us live from the scene--rebecca? 3 the greenville county coroner's office was called to a fatal crash on monday evening.the coroner said he was called to a crash on villa road near the fairway club apartments just after 7:30 p.m. on 2-15-16 a gpd officer responded to an accident on north pleasantburg and villa road. while the officer was working the accident investigation another vehicle struck the police cruiser and two people involved in the original accident. one person was declared deceased on scene by ems and the other transported to the hospital with serious injuries. our gpd

3 and here's a look on laurens road...where there were two major accidents near the millenium gas station--you can see icey roads caused one car to flip over. 3 and troopers 3 were also working a pile up in laurens county...on i-385 north at mile marker 22... around 6:30.highway patrol says one of their trooper's car was hit while working the multi-car crash.the trooper is ok but the crash remains under investigation. 3 and emergency officials are cautioning drivers to go slow-- especially as ice begins to settle on bridges and back roads.this is a look at the bridge at academy and 385, it's closed along with the bridge at highway 291.we're also learning in mauldin... main street from laurens road

this hour.until sand trucks arrive - these will remain closed, and greenville police say they will continue to close bridges if conditions remain icy. 3 the roads are nothing to mess around with tonight. drivers continue to hit black ice and some taking out other drivers. 3 fox carolina's shale remien has been in contact with law enforcement all day. she's live outside of interstate 85 3 diana and cody -you said it perfectly, the roads are no joking matter tonight. law enforcement saying it is crucial for drivers to stay off the road at all costs. just behind me on i- 85, drivers are taking it slow and putting their hazard lights on. law enforcement told me they have about (70) pending accident calls just within the hour. 3 chief crowe from travelers

has seen at least 5 overturned vehicle accidents inin few hours. law enforcement has since shut krieger driri due to several car collisions and south park street is not passable.accidents are happening faster than crews can make it to the scene. one driver who was in a collision earlier today says it scary and happens out of nowhere. 3 3 "i would highly recommend staying off the roads and they're putting out these advisories for a reason and i didn't even see it, nobody saw it and there was no warning, it just appeared out of nowhere." 3 chief crows says the huge problem spots for drivers are bridges. he says drivers speed and then slam on their breaks, taking out other cars with them. i was at the department of transportation tonight and they were barely any trucks on scene because they are all out tonight, trying to take care of the roads for drivers. 3 with all this ice, they certianly have a challening night ahead. we checked in

3 that's because when weather like this hits they have to decide whether to cancel classes.i stopped by spartanburg county district 4 today and talked to superintendent rallie liston . he tells me it's a huge decision each and every time because children's safety is at risk.so he goes out in his own and drives around his district himself to see what the roads are like before making the call.and he also relies on the 6 other spartanburg school districts. in fact - the superintendents at all the schoolsstay in touch about how the 3 roads are . 3 3 3 3 we talked about it - every district checked with their folks and we collaborate with each other we get out ride teh roads look at teh latest technology and share with each other - and try to make the best for all involved 3 at this point dr liston says he is monitoring the conditions - and there are no delays or cancellations - but

near sandy springs road around 9:30 tonight.he tells us she collided with a tow truck.the tow truck driver was taken to the hospital - no word on injuries.both vehicles were in motion when they collided, nobody was parked. 3 this is the second fatal wreck in the city of greenville tonight.this evening a person was knocked off of 385 onto villa road after they had wrecked on ice along 385.that wreck still have 385 going into downtown greenville blocked.the accident happened just before the pleasantburg exit. 3 chief meteorologist kendra kent joins us now with a look
