2:08 am
>> by jonas's new band. >> we've got a fun show for you today. finish this sentence, "like sands through the hourglass, so are the --" it's very iconic. 50 years of the daytime drama with some of the soap's biggest starts, and we've got a few surprises for the die-hard fans that we've plucked off the plaza. >> they are with a capital freak. >> then we have another incredible story. this is about two strangers who ended up saving each other's lives. was it a lucky coincidence or divine. >> and if you need spooky treats for the halloween holiday, done donatella is in the kitchen.
2:09 am
we are going to reveal something that's been locked away in the vault for a long time. >> it was before there were vaults. it was in a cave. >> kathie lee gifford, one of the starts to her career, you were a multi-pronged professional. >> i was a singer and a commercial actress. >> since we are having a big "days of our lives", birthday, kathie lee was on "days of our lives." >> i was a background person. like this. they told me not to act so much. less. >> no, no, then i was "flight 22 deport." i was a dismembered body voice. then i started doing under five. >> under five means under five lines. >> which was a big pay difference.
2:10 am
>> and then -- >> and then they gave me the most minor character ever. >> nurse callahan in 1976. we have not seen this video. this is going to be fun. take a look. >> get away! >> you have to eat, ms. hamilton. >> i said i want a steak. >> that's not on your diet. you're still on soft foods. >> okay, then i won't eat anything. >> then we'll put you back on i.v. >> then they'll have to use somebody else's arm. >> i'm going to talk to the head nurse. >> you do that. >> oh, am i glad to see you. >> are we having trouble with our favorite patient, ms. callahan? >> she won't eat. >> that's our girl. >> why don't you send that back to the kitchen. she'll eat sooner or later. >> well, i hope it's on somebody else's shift. >> ooh!
2:11 am
snap. >> that is the worst acting i have ever seen. >> look how high-pitched your voice, what happened to your voice? >> sailors, whiskey and cigarettes and late nights. that's what happens, and then you're like -- >> you're adorable. >> i was 20-22? >> boy. look at your face, that was your stern you better eat. >> somebody else is just going to have to do it. that's so bad. thank you. "days of our lives", for putting up with me. >> we're going to have a reunion. >> that's embarrassing. you know who else is embarrassing? jimmy fallon, every night. >> yesterday jimmy made his first public appearance since he fell down at harvard over the weekend. now he showed up, to be kind of
2:12 am
fun with it, he had a hard hat and goggles, he called himself trippy fallon. he burned his hand, this time he fell down. he was holding a bottle of jaeger meister. >> is that a beer? >> yeah, it's beer. or a liquor. >> it's a hard liquor? >> jaeger. it all goes down the same. >> the same place. >> where he was presenting it to the band as a gift. anyway, his fall was caught on tape. >> really? >> i didn't see that. >> oh. >> yeah, here it is. is this after? >> oh, oh, ooh. he fell, there was a girl, apparently on the ground, and he was bleeding. anyway, he went to the hospital, got stitched up. he joked that his hand doctor is now driving a really, really expensive car. >> yeah.
2:13 am
>> anyway. >> anyway, he showed this video. and it just went out. let's take a look at his explanation. >> apparently, some girl was going going to kneel down and give me a flower or something. so she knelt down. i didn't see her, and i was like, whoa. this hand is already gone. i threw the bottle and landed on the broken glass, and -- >> wow. >> he needs to stay home on weekends, like i do. because i'm accident prone as well. you need to stay home, jimmy, with that beautiful new baby and your family. >> he actually has a brand-new video three showed of his girl. take a look. >> can you say yes? can you say yes? yes, daddy, yes!
2:14 am
can you say da-da? >> ppppppplllllttt >> come on, no respect! >> i love kids, they're so unfiltered. and life ruins us. >> one in december and winnie's too. >> i never agree with the studies. this one says, have you ever been introduced to a stranger who kissed you on the cheek? that's becoming all more familiar. >> when you go to a party and they reach over to kiss you on the cheek and you don't know them, do you find that offensive? a new study found that most people don't like to be touched by a stranger on anywhere but their hand. >> nice to meet you. and the older i get -- i was manhandled or woman handled or elderly people handled, because they, i find, and i'm one of
2:15 am
they want to grab you up. >> so effusive. i've got a bad neck. you sort of brace yourself. but kissers will often adopt an arm hold maneuver. show what happened to you the other day. you were at an event and somebody came and you thought they were going to hug. >> i'm a big hugger. i feel like shaking hands is like this, hello, boring. >> you would hug a stranger? >> yeah. but what i don't love is when people come to hug you and they go like this. >> wait, hold on. it's like a strange, unusual. i think you either embrace all the way. >> you're all in. >> or let it go. or just shake hands if you're going to go that way. >> i think it's okay. >> but etiquette experts say upon greeting a stranger, offer to shake hands. you're right. the standard way. you know what i'm excited about? >> what? >> tomorrow or not tomorrow, tonight, today, 2:00. >> what?
2:16 am
i've been having horrible hot flashes and nothing's helping, and it's becoming out of control. it came on right before an interview. >> and it really is upsetting your life. >> somebody said if you try it, do you think it will help? >> i tried it and it didn't help me, you might have to go more than one time. are we going to take donnae naatella with you and tape it? it's interrupting the quality of your life. >> yeah, no sleepy. >> no nothing. so do you have a recurring nightmare or bad dream you're trying to understand? we need to know about it. we might decipher that dream later this week. do you have one that keeps repeating? >> i'm usually running slow
2:17 am
trying to run and scrimmageeam and i can't make any noise. >> mine is about gum, and i've got such a wad of gum that i can't. >> breathe or -- >> i have to do something but i can't, because i have the wad of gum. >> all right. >> if you like entertaining, you're going to love what we're giving aaway. it's spanky day. >> i like it too, a little. >> and it's the soap that has spanned generations. >> year' about to have fun with some of the biggest stars of "days of our lives", right after this. your clever moves won't stop the cold and flu. but disinfecting with lysol can. because lysol wipes and spray are approved to kill more types of germs than clorox. including those that can make you sick.

deirdre, you've been on for how many? >> 39. it's been home for so long that you can't measure it in time. it's just oh, that's home. >> but it's such a good gig for an actor to get, isn't it? because it's security. most of acting is what's my next job. you can get a job for 39 years. >> and kristin, it's funny, we watched hope's character have all these crazy arcs. >> you ain't seen nothing yet. >> really? you can't give it away, though, right? >> i'm still recovering. >> what's craziest arc, with exceptione of what's ahead? >> as corny as it may sound, i have really enjoyed every story line i have been involved in. i think the craziest was the sleeping pill episode hope was having when she was branding men in salem. >> who hasn't done that?
2:22 am
>> but i have to say, i had a great time playing, because it was this whole other character again and also the princess gina. i was aged 50 years, and i was younger. >> when i was in college, my mom used to tape this on the vhs and send me the tapes to virginia tech. it had that kind of following. >> the following goes from young to old to all kinds of people. >> yeah, it's incredible when you see the mother, daughter, granddaughter, the way the show gets passed down, how there are issues that they share together, which is one of the neatest things, you know. there are issues topical on the show, and then the families share them together, which is a really neat thing. >> did you see lauren's hair back there? >> we're totally into whatever -- >> is that part of your character? >> it has evolved into that. i think i've had it for five years now. we've gone through a period of
2:23 am
>> that's more fun to play than alice horton, let's be honest. >> we love alice horton i have great fun. >> when you go down the road, patch, do people go patch! >> yeah, they do. >> what about when they see >> ah! >> well, because i've played two characters over the years, they sometimes ask me which one i am at the time. now i'm playing andre, which is the disturber of salem. >> in is not salem, massachusetts. this is salem, illinois. >> a villain we love. >> we have a ton of fans, but who's got a question over there? >> this is jane from nashville, tennessee. she has a burning question about beau. >> are beau and hope going to get back together? >> are beau and hope going to
2:24 am
>> i don't know. you have to wait and see. >> you cannot reveal. >> let me just tell you, that is so much coming up on the show, and it's moving so quickly, and so fast, but it's very exciting. you're going to laugh. you're going to cry. you're going to celebrate. there's going to be so many emotions running through everyone, as they have been through us. getting the scripts and doing the scene, you will have a lot to look forward to. >> how about the young hunk in the back. >> let's hear from billy. >> this guy? >> that's the guy. >> how long have you been on the show, billy? >> i started airing september of last year. so yeah, i'm still soaking it up, yeah. >> we want to play a game with you guys. we want you to put up your hands, if you've been on the show -- how do we play this? here it is. raise your hand if you've played multiple characters. raise your hand if you've killed
2:25 am
someone on the show. >> excellent. >> raise your hand if you've been abducted. if you've been in a coma. who's been brainwashed. who's come back from the dead? who has actually levitated. >> the cast is going to stick around for "days of our lives" trivia. >> and a couple super fans will play for some super prizes.prizes. i've never used one of these before. (laughs) that's fun...that is fun. it's already dry! it dried right away. it doesn't feel wet at all right now. no wait time. this is great. my skin feels loved. it's very soft. there's no white stuff. it does the moisturizing for me. it's everything i love about dove. can i keep it? '60s, '70s or '80s? >> '70s. >> i think we have a winner! kiersten is the winner, but you were awesome. >> okay. wait. marr layna is going to tell us what the grand prize s come here, marr layna. >> congratulations. you're both knowledgeable. we love that about you. i don't have my glasses. what you're getting is two round trip tickets to los angeles and you will visit the set ever "days of our lives" come to our anniversary party and if
2:31 am
appear in tufts.fts. booze day tuesday.
2:32 am
you'll probably spend more time indoors. what do you like least about your living space? >> here to inspire you with before and after redos is francesco billeto. >> you're going to show us great before and afters. do you have a theme that runs through the whole gamut? >> yes, don't give up. don't have fear and see what you can diy. see what you can't diy. a lot of these befores, a lot of these afters, they're not before, but the afters are really -- >> people are afraid to spend the money and have it be worse than what they had. >> some people don't change it until they're ready to move. >> shows the kitchen before. >> i would have lit a match and walked away. >> that is like a 1950s. >> it's pretty bad. the dark, dark cabinets. above there was fluorescent lighting. truly a challenge.
2:33 am
the floor is to be desired. >> what'd you do? >> after is quite easy and impressive. it's just a fresh coat of bistro white paint. the homeowner here decided to just do the exterior, not the interior. which helps the chipping. upgraded the applyiancesappliances. they couldn't afford to do the marble counter tops they wanted. that was a splurge, so they ended up doing foremica. >> now you don't mind the floor. >> i think it's probably just cleaned up a little bit here. they did extend the entranceway a little larger and obviously the ceiling they had redone. it's a striking before and after. >> and does that cost a lot to do something like that? >> it can. the paint's the easiest thing you can do. that's a couple hundred bucks. i would have gone for white appliances and an island. these are all things you can do.
2:34 am
>> but they can still do all that. >> let's go to the bathroom. this is before of the bathroom. >> is that a real cat? >> the cat is real. everyone's got a story. i want to know what that cat's story is. >> that's like from the 20s. that big bathroom. >> it's an interesting bathroom. it's a 1936 span earn-style home. they really, really came from a bad place with the pink and black tile. the old fixtures, you'll see what a draw matzic transformation transformation. >> it doesn't look like the same space. >> it is. they ended up moving a window. it's expensive. not terribly expensive, but make sure you get a good contractor, because you have exterior to worry about as well if you have brick or siding. >> where was it before? >> it was closest to the vanity, and they had the arch over the tub. right there. so they moved it. and it worked for them and they have a larger mirror, and the seamless tub and shower. >> that's amazing.
2:35 am
>> one take away -- the one take away here, the big tip is keep the integrity and style of your home. i hate when you go to a home and it's all patchwork. you have a 1926 home and 2015 bathroom. >> sometimes you have to do it in sections. >> but the detail in the tile. >> it's beautiful. >> let's check out the living room. this is before. >> a very modest. simple. something you'd see in the midwest. i think my aunt has the same couch in the living room. it was pleasant. this is not what you have but what you do with it. if you did have traditional furniture you could arrange it much like the after. they had good bones to work with. >> the after looks like what? >> da, da, da, dramatic. >> that looks like malibu. really dramatic. >> another note though take if you're going to do something is create a focal wall or focal point. here they did it with the tv flat wall.
2:36 am
>> and the fireplace. >> and the gorgeous, dark charcoal gray paint. but what i love about the flat wall is it hides the cords from the tv. they made it architectural. and it sets the tone. come in, watch a movie. have a good time, relax. >> and then there's a little office that you have at the end. >> little office. yeah. >> it's like everybody's office. >> but not in your home, maybe. maybe in a -- >> is this in someone's house? rock. >> oh. >> names will not be revealed. >> samantha! >> we spend so much time in our offices so why not invigorate the space. spark it up with personality. >> hello! >> a pop of color. some art from your home to make it familiar and even a layer of rug. the wall treatment is removable. a lot of people think because
2:37 am
space you can't do anything. >> a lot more fun. >> we have a little more work to do in there, folks, but it's a steppingstone. >> and we have a patio, i guess. >> if you're fortunate enough to have a patio. this is a new yorker's dream here. obviously, it's sort of a drab brown color, basic patio, nothing too wow about it. >> just a place to basically do your steaks. this is the after, wow. woman. >> what i love about this, obviously, they painted the whole home a fresh shade of page. she wanted a yellow door and placed it in the back. i believe the neighbor the don't want to see the yellow door. business in the front, party in the back. they painted the gorgeous diamond pattern.
2:38 am
>> i love the gazebo, lamy. >> you can find more before and afters at klg and hoda.com. >> and something that will give you goose bumps right after this.is. [coughing] [coughing] [coughing] [coughing] coughing disrupts everyone's life. that's why so many people are turning to delsym for longer lasting cough relief. delsym has an advanced time release formula that helps silence coughs for a full 12 hours. that's three times longer than the leading cough liquid. all night... or all day. if you take multiple medications, a dry mouth can be a common side effect. that's why there's biotene. it comes in oral rinse, spray or gel so there's moisturizing relief for everyone. biotene, for people who suffer from dry mouth. now there's a new way to stay tru to your health. new trubiotics with immune support advantage. this advanced formula combines probiotics

once in a while you hear about a story that seems to be a miracle or maybe divine coincidence. >> one author calls them god winks. now squire's back with us to share another truly remarkable story. >> hi, squire. >> it was one year ago this past weekend that a favorite song became an amazing god wink
2:41 am
tim jones and don herbert. what they thought was a medical miracle turned out to be a triple godwink. >> oh. >> listen closely. >> we will. >> my name is pastor tim jones. my church was holding a saturday craft and bake sale, so i set up a meet the pastor table near the front door and blared my favorite song over the speakers. it was called "so mercy", by the gaither vocal band. a stranger came to my stable. it turned out that the song was his favorite too. we talked about our common love for gospel music and said good-bye. two weeks later, don got devastating news. doctors told him he needed a kidney transplant. after family and friends were unable to meet the rigorous donor requirements and don's wife pleaded for a donor on social media, something inside me said i needed to help and i

the first godwink. my blood was a 1 in 20,000 match to be his kidney donor. we prepped for dual surgery. i would go first to remove my kidney. don would follow. our wives waited with don, for three hours then five, then seven hours, they worried. what's going on? finally, as don went into surgery, the doctor explained they had found a deadly aneurism in the renal artery behind my kidney. the bulging vein was like a ticking time bomb. when it ruptures, there is certain death. the anrimm was exposed in time to be removed. the doctor summed it up. tim, you saved don's life today, but in the process, you saved your own. >> oh, my gosh! >> how about that?
2:43 am
and they are grateful that their godwink link, sharing a favorite song "so mercy", which, by the way, has amazing lyrics that provide another godwink. can you say it together? if you've ever reached to help a friend, the hand you help may lift you up again. >> that's a lyric in that song? >> that's a lyric in the song. >> by reba rambo. >> everybody has godwinks. >> all right. you have to pay attention. >> skierquire thank you so much. >> how about some dessert.
