police are investigating a homicide in des moines overnight. just after two this morning, officers were called to a house at 20-20 east 14th street on a report of an altercation.. when they arrived, police found a dead man inside the home.. medics took another person to the hospital for treatment. detectives are interviewing witnesses and investigators are processing the scene. no word yet on the names of the victims or any suspects. police plan to release more

des moines firefighters are working to put out a fire at a motel. police say crews were called to the cozy rest motel off southeast 14th street just after 7-30. firefighters told police the motel was at one point fully engulfed in flames but crews were able to control the fire. police have blocked off part of southeast 14th street at this time. police say no injuries have been reported. funeral services will be held today for the couple killed this week in des moines. heather belieu and her fiance, bryon howard, were found shot to death inside a home on center street monday... both funerals will take place at hamilton's funeral home, near highland memory gardens. howard's funeral starts at ten.. belieu's is set for one. 39-year old michael wanchanic is charged with two counts of first degree murder. investigators say he lived in the home with howard and belieu. police

evening following a 4-hour standoff along highway 1-41 in dallas county. he is being held in the polk county jail on 2-million-dollars bond.. a des moines man is behind bars this morning... charged in the deadly shooting along court avenue last weekend. police arrested 24-year-old dre sean barber just yesterday afternoon.. he is charged with first degree murder... and attempted murder. barber is accused of shooting edmanuel perez and andrew hurley boyd after a fight broke out. perez was killed... hurley-boyd is now recovering. visitors to the city's entertainment district can expect a stronger police presence this weekend with the nice weather, and the iowa hawkeyes playing in the big ten championship, business are expecting a big crowd on court avenue tonight. the organization, "operation downtown", is providing funding for six additional officers. partially due to last weekend's violence ... and what the city says is leftover funding. the manager

"welcome back to today in iowa saturday. i'm back with fareway expert whitney packebush for centsable health. we're now into december which means lots of snacking. this is a nice savory option. whether you're taking it to a party or just want something around the house. this is a great alternative to those prepackaged chips. we are roasting chickpeas...they are the same thing as garbanzo beans and what is in hummus. they have a very hearty texture. they taste like corn nuts just not as crunchy. you can eat half of a cup and it's less than 200 calories and full of fiber and protein. they last about a week. i have onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, coriander, salt and pepper and paprika. this is two cans of chickpeas drained and dry with a

you see any skins, just peel them off. we're going to add a little bit of olive oil. you want them all to lay flat on a sheet. you're going to only add half a can of spice right now. per can it takes about 40 minutes at 400

then once i pull these out of the oven i add the rest of the spice mixture. every can after the first one i usually add about 20 minutes more. if they look a little burnt, that's kind of what you're looking for. the biggest mistake is not toasting these long enough.

extra lights and cameras. the fbi is now investigating the san bernardino massacre as an "act of terrorism." this comes after revelations that allegiance to isis. jinah kim has the latest. this is the first time we are seeing tashfeen malik - mother, wife, suspected terrorist. after spending the past two days focusing mostly on her husband, syed rizwan farook, law enforcement did an about turn after learning she had posted an oath of allegiance to isis on facebook during wednesday's attack. "if you met her she was like the girl next door you know? the sweet innocent kind. the kind that's always smiling, thats nice to you. you would never ever guess that that girl had ties to isis." the fbi officially declared this a terror investigation, but said it does not believe the couple had any direct ties to

"so far we have no indication that these killers are part of an organized larger group or form part of a cell." today at the couple's rented home, the media was allowed inside by the landlord after it was cleared by the fbi. media had no access to the garage, which had been converted into a bomb-making lab. "this is not mainstream islam, this is not what our religion teaches us, this is not what we believe in." tonight, farook's fellow congregants emphasized what the couple did is condemned by islam, and said they feared backlash. meanwhile, another candlelight vigil tonigt as this community continues to mourn the 14 fathers, mothers, daughters and sons who lost their lives in this senseless tragedy. following the mass shooting in california, presidential candidates are starting a discussion about surveillance of people suspected of having ties to terrorists. in order to protect ourselves, we need to do some investigation, we are having this debate in our country that oh, we just have to look at

find them. well this gentleman was radicalized and there is some evidence that he was talking to people who we did have suspicion for. i'm all for looking into them you just have to get a warrant. we need even more intelligence not less, move vigilant not less.... the metadata collection program these actions made america weaker and more vulnerable. i've said repeatedly we need to redouble our efforts to dismantle the global structure of terrorism. we have to go after those folks who are on the internet radicalizing people. and we have to fight these terrorist networks in the air. the united

"i love to see the smile on peoples face," said donald baumgardner. it's hard to miss him outside this grocery store...five days a week...eight and half hours a day. "they had a deal down there that said sign up to ring the bell so

"i love to talk to people, i love to ring the bell and make the noise and no one yells at me for making noise," said donald baumgardner. and the salvation army of siouxland struggles to find more people like him. "during the week we struggle to get volunteers," said allison liska. the people you see ringing those bells are volunteers. the salvation army estimates they're around 100 volunteers short. ringing at 15 different locations. but more like 14 because don has a strong lock on his spot except for tuesdays. "we gotta do what we can while we're on the earth and then be proud cause we're going to get to go to the beautiful heaven," said donald baumgardner. a freak accident years ago, led to him having his right leg amputated in august. that nor the snow kept him from what he signed up to do. "give and love and cheerish other people and show them how much you care for them," said donald baumgardner. "that's what it's about." even adding his own holiday spice. "i've got 325 different
