a des moines school bus attendant and a driver are out of a job after the district says video shows one of them physically abusing a student with special needs. the bus attendant was accused of both she and the driver mishandled the situation. this is video from inside the bus on november 4th. records show the attendant, ruby crying. the video shows him getting out hitting another student. taylor pulls the child by the arm and sits next to him... pressing his face into the window, which left a mark on his face the next day, the boy's mother complained and the district fired taylor. the bus driver was fired for failing to intervene. des moines schools released a statement...saying in part, "cases involving mistreatment of a student are a clear violation of the trust and expectation the district has that all of its employees work in the best interests of the students we serve."

district, the child's mother apparently had a change of heart. taylor's unemployment appeals case includes a letter from the mother about how she didn't want to press charges... it goes on to say that the attendant did what she thought was best to protect her son and the other students on the bus... . taylor and the bus driver lost their appeals with iowa workforce development and were ordered to repay the unemployment benefits they received. a union county man charged in a double murder case will spend the rest of his life behind bars. jerry dillinger pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree murder. police say he killed his former sister in law... 37-year-old loretta dillinger... and michael robinson, his niece's boyfriend. police found loretta dillinger's body in december in a farm pond near lorimor robinson's body was found near a house in thayer. following dillinger's guilty plea, he was sentenced to two consecutive life terms.

a des moines man convicted for his role in the 20-13 beating death of another man is getting a new trial. the iowa supreme court reversed the conviction of kent tyler the third. tyler was found guilty of punching and knocking richard daughenbaugh to the ground. another group of men then beat daughenhbaugh to death. a polk county jury found tyler guilty of throwing the first punch and being part of the larger group assault. but the supreme court ruled that he should have only been tried for one of those acts ... not both. funeral services will he held today for four family members who died in a house fire. sorenson family's home in boxholm. heater. a mother and three children were killed after being trapped in an upstairs bedroom. 27 year old amber sorenson, nine year old riley, six year old autumn and four year old brayden will be laid to rest this morning. the funeral will be held at 10-30, at southeast valley middle school in

a tent fire isn't keeping i-s-u fans from camping outside hilton coliseum. dozens of students are braving the cold for a chance at a front row seat to watch the cyclones take on kansas monday night. early yesterday morning, a blanket close to a propane heater caught fire. three students inside the tent made it out safely, but everything inside was destroyed. campus police are now talking with the campers about safety, but don't plan to ban camping outside hilton... cancer... their classmates put a smile on the faces of both brave children through laughter at the principal's expense. channel 13's justin surrency has the story.. 'its not just what you do for one person but its about what you do for every person.' its a lesson the students at western hills have learned from two of their own... 'we have two students that are going through a rough patch in their life'6th grader niavh hyatt diagnosed with cancer of the brain and spine and 1st grader elayna sandeen whos fighting lung cancer after recently beating kidney cancer... 'we wanted to show support for them but also wanted to give our students a chance to chip and do something for themselves.' so principal george panosh issued a take home assignment over winter break 'we had about $1500 for each student that was raised in a week and a half
