an urbandale police officer shot and killed a suspect after responding to a drug call at a hotel this morning. officers were called to the holiday inn at 4800 merle hay road just after four this morning... on arrival, police encountered three people in the hotel lobby.. that's when officers say one of the suspects pulled out gun and started shooting at them. police returned fire... killing the shooter. two women took off, but were caught a short time later and are now in custody. urbandale police are planning to hold a news conference on the officer involved shooting. check back for more information on this developing story throughout the morning. a brief standoff ended without injury in the drake neighborhood .. police responded to call of a man firing shots in the air

university around seven last night.. the suspect then walked into the nearby platinum kutz barber shop. officers talked him out of the building and took him into custody.. 45 year old reginald douglas of des moines is in the polk county jail this morning. he's charged with possession of a weapon as a felon, discharging firearms in the city, and possession of marijuana. des moines police also arrested a pair of armed suspects... accused of trying to break into a home on park avenue thursday night. the homeowner called police... and as officers pulled up.. they saw two men drive away. that led to a chase that hit 70-miles per hour and ended when the suspect crashed into a ditch near 63rd and park. 'the suspects tried to run from the car but not a wise move with the fresh snow, it was easy to follow their tracks we had them in custody in a matter of minutes. 31 year old zeferino padilla and 33 year old felipe padilla are charged

firearm and attempted burglary. a substitute teacher is facing disciplinary action... after students claimed he was drunk in the classroom.. police removed the teacher from a junior high classroom in iowa city thursday. that's after complaints from students that he was drunk. his name isn't being released because he wasn't charged with a crime. iowa city school officials say "the teacher will be excluded from subbing in our district. i'm not going to say forever. he will be excluded from subbing." a fight at merrill middle school sent an 8th grader to the hospital with a concussion. channel 13's jodi whitworth has more on what happened. - hes got a heart of gold known as big john on the football field... 14 - year - old john brilliant junior is described as an all around good kid ... but also known as the type of kid who doesn't mind standing up for

but claims emotions ultimately spilled over due to lack of adult supervision in the cafeteria.. - how many staff members or teachers would over see the cafeteria at the time, it seems like that you have a lot of kids there at once how many people keep an eye on things. they told me three and in the same sentence there is only three is because they are understaffed. john senior says his son will have to undergo weeks of physical therapy for his arm and leg... and doesn't plan to press charges against the other student.... but says the school needs to watch it's students more closely.... - we give these schools our trust to care for these kids, its not like they are watching a pet turtle. we expected them to come home the way they left the des moines school district issued this statement regarding brillant's claims... saying -- there was ample supervision in the lunchroom. however, the investigation clearly concluded that both students
