house again and again. lawmakers passed this bill in 2014 and we're talking about cannabis oil, kind of a misunderstood thing, but now that this law laws in effect, are you seeing any benefits of it? >> we were able to start giving charlotte's charlottes web from earlier this year and i think we have seen substantial benefits for her. i think the difficulty for parents is of her parents is it is very difficult to obtain this medication in iowa. >> but you've found a way to be to use the mail right? >> s. >> how does that work? >> we were on a waiting list for a long time and with wait they contacted us this spring that said we'd gone to the top of the mailing list and they felt confident they could send it to us and they started mailing it to us but there's not a lot of it. >> why is that the cost?

they pass a law that so many families can't see the benefit of the law. they have registration cards you can get in the last check i saw as 90 people have these cards but a lot of people are in your position but they can't get the oil yet. >> correct. it is frustrating because the government is here to solve your problems. i see it everyday. the mayor of west des moines said people who have problems that only government can can solve expect the government to solve them and if they don't people get frustrated. >> so they passed a law but most people don't see any help from it. >> because they the only way to do it is to have it manufactured in your state with 23 other states are doing and we are asking the iowa legislature and the legislature and the governor to produce this medication in iowa for iowans. >> the governor has said that he worries this could be a gateway to something worse. >> i don't know what he is worried about. the drugs are already out there on the street.

network that you're on but i think it's if you add some extra conditions to it we've heard from people who say my relative has parkinson's or ms or chrome and they say they could get access to this it would substantially help them so this is much broader than seizure control. i think there are a lot of iowans with critical conditions of this medicine could help. >> do you still have faith in medicine and in government? >> i do. we're going to keep going and keep working at it. we like to think at the end of the day ultimately the right thing is done and we've made progress this year. i think it is an advantage for us to go there and explain how much better margaret has been doing since she's on it and now they have proof of an iowan who has been taking it. >> and there is proof she's better off. >> absolutely. they looked at the seizures in october and said that her seizures have been cut in half by 50 percent on top of sleeping through the night, better

we think gloria steinem blazed a lot of trails frost and we were sad that they would go that far talking about younger women who make up their own mind their own ways on their own issues. >> mary, you know what it is like to court women. you know what it is like to be a female candidate. you heard these lines in what were you thinking? >> i am shocked, to tell you the truth because i think there are many many ways that women support each other. a political campaign may not be the place that we can do that. here we get into what do we believe what our issues, who do we think is going to be the best for us and i like thinking that people run for office because they want to serve not because they want to be the first woman or because they have or they believe people should support them because of their gender.

is probably helping as well but i think there is a balance and women are put under more scrutiny than men are in general when they run for office so it becomes a lot more difficult, but at the same time the message is very important peer to have to know why you're running for office and what you want to do when you get there and i think that's been some of the issue >> marry you know what it is like to run as a woman and when would you also advise a lot of women looking at getting into office so how do you advise them when you talk about hey, i'm a woman. are there certain issues they should talk about? >> there is this whole lien gleam in thing and the fact that we're talking more and more about equal sharing of family

are some of the issues raised especially on the democratic side of things especially during the iowa caucuses. is any of this criticism misguided? >> it may be overblown. it is important that as democrats and republicans we focus on keeping the caucus keeping first in the nation. i think it is definitely important that we look inward to see if there's any improvements to be made. i attend my caucus and it was definitely overcrowded. we went inside and outside and inside again. there weren't enough voter registration forms and there are many things that can happen but i think it is important that we look inward and say how can we improve this process and be very open and make sure that what we do is as transparent as possible to improve it. >> one thing people talk about us we can never get the final

we know you have a funky way of doing things in your side when you're doing to get i was caucus director for a brief period in 2003. >> and you've been in therapy ever since probably. >> right figuring out the math and which precincts god which delegate number and it is a complicated process. democrats are obviously more complicated. we tend to like our process but i think there is the moment where you look at it and say okay here are the final numbers to each candidate do they match the delegates and if they do we say we have a clean process and everyone is happy with the process. it is possible that the numbers may be different for the person that one man for the person that lost. >> ride so in the raw totals bernie sanders could win in theory. >> in theory he could but everybody understands that is our process.

really understand those that release those numbers and understand that's our process. >> marry you watched all of this and obviously your side it's kind of a straw poll so it's not nearly as complicated. do you think democrats will have to make some changes are not? >> i think they need to do whatever they're going to do because to me it is not --dash the caucus itself is a bit anti- climactic. what iowa does so beautifully is to expose the candidates as persons, as human beings, as candidates and where they stand on issues. i think our job was done extremely well this time and that is we got people paying attention to the candidates and where they stood on issues. that is the most important thing. who goes out of your winner you

been that it could've been this ted cruz was crooked, whatever. you hear this stuff but i'm still at the point where i want to say who wins it's okay to talk about but what really happened was candidates had to perform retail politics. they had to talk to us. >> but because of what happened in 2012 on your side declaring the wrong winner to claim the claim romney first thing coming back in thing all know and single note was out with the other the other one and then you've got donald trump saying that ted cruz essentially stole the election by having his people say ben carson was dropping out and he didn't do you worry that in 2020 we will be in trouble? >> i hope not because i still believe that our job in the caucus itself is kind of a demonstration of that.

south carolina and nevada and whatever but we still did our jobs and that caucus night to me is the greatest exercise in citizen democracy that i can imagine. anyone who sees this is left is less critical than people who are like we are to white or we are whatever. we pay attention and we do work. every time i have interviewed this time around people say i can't believe all those people that turned out in cold it was so nasty and they want to get out there and hear and see we do our job and at the end and this time especially, i thought it was a wonderful problem to have. both republicans and democrats just overflowed the place. that says to me it works so i'm not saying we ought to change.

so when you look at promotion opportunities, leadership opportunities, women will score score lower in those areas than their male counterparts, so it may inhibit their ability to move into command like company command come battalion command so are we really doing our women a favor by moving them into those roles where they will be on equal footing with the male counterpart. >> so she thinks basing it on physical fitness tests could help women when it comes to promotion later on. the journal of applied physiology looked at some of the differences when it come to the sexes and they can be substantial according to the survey. look at the makeup of a man on average 26 more pounds of muscle than a woman and that impact strength. that study found that women have 40 percent less upper body strength and 33 percent less lower body strength. senator ernst told me it is not so simple to say while let's
