so many have turned to phone apps like 'waze' that warn you of police officers looking for speeders on the road. but now officials are putting out a warning that you could be doing more harm than good. john rogers explains. when kristi weaver goes out for a drive, she keeps her eyes on the road, and her ears zeroed in on her 'waze' app. "if you're someone like me who

waze is way more than a gps. it connects her to other drivers on her route, and they'll warn her of obstacles coming up- like car crashes, traffic backups... or police officers. "why is it so helpful to know that?" "i'm not really a speeder, but its just nice to know." "there's always that moment in your heart where its like, 'oh my goodness, there's a cop!' ok, make sure all my blinkers are working! you're just always on edge. so its just kinda nice to know, all right, look sharp, there's a cop up there." but state trooper kenn watson says speed enforcement zones are more important than you may realize. "you have to remember by blasting out all this information you may be helping someone who really needs to be behind bars." dangerous, violent criminals are arrested daily thanks to simple traffic stops. for example- oklahoma city bomber timothy
12:13 pm
killer ted bundy were both arrested after they were pulled over. watson says these traffic apps can help these criminals get away. "when we're making those traffic stops, we're pulling bad guys off the streets. this is something we have to remember." instead, watson suggests just obey the speed limit and let law enforcement officials do their jobs. that way everybody wins- drivers like weaver won't get a ticket, and bad guys can get the justice they deserve. law enforcement agencies nationwide have expressed concerns about law enforcement agencies nationwide have expressed concerns about crowd-sourcing apps... like waze that share their locations could interfere with police work or put officers in danger. --hubbell road in des moines --hubbell road in des moines
