kids at two dallas county schools spent much of the day today under lockdown. all because of a threatening call from a parent. school officials say the collins-maxwell high school and middle school were put on lockdown after the call was made this morning. ortan haywood allegedly made threats to several staff members. the lockdown was lifted this afternoon... after haywood was arrested by police on a warrant out of texas. additional charges will likely be filed. nearly six months later ... west des moines police have finally made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run case . early in the morning of august 23rd of last year, daulton holly was hit andd killed while walking along raccoon river drive when he was and killed. after months of forensic testing police positively identified the vehicle that hit him ... and now have arrested the driver of that

yesterday 37-year old ronald hauser of van meter surrounded to police. he is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death and o-w-i. police say the wait was worth it to ensure they had the right man. 30:36 a long investigation, a lot of detail to it, a lot of forensic evidence that the iowa dci lab assisted with 30:48 and we glad to bring this case to a close as for charging the subject in this incident. and more important than closing the case, sergeant bryan says the arrest brings closure to daulton holly's family. eagle grove police and the iowa division of criminal investigation still aren't ready to release the names or conditions of two men injured in a shooting this weekend. it happened on sunday evening outside an apartment building. police say an argument between two men escalated into gun fire. police describe one of the men as a victim and the other as a

however they aren't saying if the men shot each other ... or if one person fired both shots. police say the men's names and conditions could be released tomorrow. it's estimated that nationally one in five women and one in 71 men will be raped at some point in their lives... its these statistics a group of advocates are hoping grabs lawmakers attention... stephanie moore joins us, steph advocates against sexual violence rallied at the state capitol today hoping connecting one-one-one with lawmakers would help push some key bills forward... 'i know that it makes a difference, i know that it helps legislatures to hear whats happening on the ground in their community, some are very well aware and some the issues hasnt been brought to their attention.' beth barnhill is the executive director of the iowa coalition against sexual assault. barnhill was joined by 80 other advocates spent their day lobbying at the capitol.

those are increased penalties for sexual misconduct in corrective systems, including the term 'breasts' in the definition of sexual assault and civil protective orders for sexual violence survivors. survivors of sexual assault say sharing their personal stories with lawmakers can be part of the healing process.. 'this is such a great environment to foster that voice and to link them up with individuals that can make those changes in our communities so they can be heard and have that sense of justice in their homes and feel safe.' all three of these bills have been introduced this session... the iowa coalition against sexual assault is on its 20th year lobbying for this type of legislation. iowa lawmakers have made major changes to a bill that would allow more sick iowans access to cannabis oil. those changes exclude people with many diseases but they also make it more likely the bill could become law this legislative session. iowans testfied before a

almost all pleaded with lawmakers to allow as many iowans as possible to get the oil...which they say has shown to decrease symptoms and pain from their illnesses bob lewis...1354 one thing i wish i'd make happen for all of you who are against the bill is that you could experience my body for one day. i'll take it back at the end of the day. but if you knew what it was like to have to carry this around, i think you might think otherwise." the compromised bill would only legalize access of the oil to people suffering from intractable epilepsy, multiple sclerosis or those with terminal cancer who have less than a year to live. it also would authorize two sites in iowa to manufacture and dispense the oil for patients. today lawmakers in the senate decided against advancing a bill that would require you to be at least 21 years old to smoke. "and i don't think it's a good idea to start smoking at any age. but i've also got this feeling that, at 18, you have

can get sued at 18. and so, the rights that are given to you at 18 should probably include the ability to buy a pack of cigarettes if you so feel." :01-:25 the bill was proposed by senator herman quirmbach of ames. the democratic senator is also the lawmaker behind the proposal to ban teenagers 17 and under from using tanning beds. he sees similarities between the two measures. 'the vast majority of smokers start when they are teenagers or young adults. the statistics are very clear: if we can get people to the age of 25 without them starting to smoke, the chances of them ever starting are very, very small. so, raising the purchasing age is very important to help keep those young people safe until theyre able to make a more mature decision. and its also important for keeping cigarettes out of the hands of high-schoolers.' :01- :30

the iowa house is looking at a few bills that would shake up the alcohol industry. right now businesses with a liquor license still have to get a special permit to install self-serve vending machines. a bill that passed out of a committee this week would allow any business with a liquor license to go ahead and use those machines. one house republican says it's about protecting iowa's liquor laws while fixing "wrinkles" in the system that hurt small businesses. "i think the microdistillery business in iowa is analogous to the native wine business that has sprung up over the past 20 years or so. i think that it contributes to the economy, i think it helps small communities where they're established, and i think iowans enjoy it, so yeah, i think it's a good thing for the state." :01-:19 vander lindern is pushing another bill that would increase the number of liquor bottles distilleries can sell to customers in a single

"they are not asking apple to redesign its product or to create a new back door to one of their products. they're simply asking for something that would have an impact on this one device." not so says apple ceo tim cook ...who writes: "the government suggests this tool could only be used once, on one phone. but that's simply not true. once created, the technique could be used over and over again, on any number of

"it's like if you put a key under your mat. how do you make sure only the right people use that key? the fbi wants apple to invent new software to bypass a key security feature that erases all data after ten wrong passcode attempts - so techs can wage a brute-force attack to guess the number or password. "here the government's not asking for a backdoor, what they're asking for is give us the ability to sort of knock on that door a million times until we can break in." but apple says this fight is far bigger than one attack and one phone - a legal fight pitting personal privacy against public safety.
