first on 13... we're following a developing story on des moines' south side this morning. des moines police are now investigating an overnight stabbing there... it happened just before 2:30 ... a person who had been stabbed showed up to the quiktrip on se 14th... just minutes later, police tracked down a vehicle they believe belongs to the suspect... that was at southeast 13 and thorton near the dunkin donuts. police aren't saying whether an arrest was made or what charges they'll face. the victim was sent to an area condition this morning. a series of delays is over this morning for a boone murder trial. after being postponed five times, jury selection finally begins today in the case of alexander fazzino... fazinno is facing a first degree

he's accused of killing his wife, emily in the couple's home in january 2012. authorities found emily's body in the bathroom. fazzino's trail has been delayed five times... most recently so he could care for his daughter as she recovered from a bone marrow transplant. his trial has been moved to winneshiek county. jury selection is expected to begin as early as this morning. a newton man must face a judge today on attempted murder charges. 50 year old john britton faces three counts of attempted murder. his plea hearing is scheduled for this morning in jasper county court. police say he rammed his car into another car... carrying his estranged wife and their granddaughter last october. he's also accused of hitting their son.. no one was seriously hurt. we're tracking the potential for ice jam flooding this morning... several jams were reported overnight along the des moines river basin including near fort dodge and fraser. river rises of 3 to 4

behind these jams and they can lead to quick flash flooding of low lying areas. the jams are expected to move south down the des moines river... already, it and the racoon river are at near flood stage point in des moines. luckily, cooling temperatures and slowing snow melt should slow further runoff... stopping major problems. a metro ymca is struggling to measure up this morning... each year their annual fundraiser gives about $400 thousand dollars in financial aid to its members. but each facility is on its own to reach their own dollar-amount.... and the south side of des moines is coming up short. they're aiming for $82 thousand dollars...and only have until thursday of this week to meet their mark. it will be quiet and cooler this week. today is going to be mostly cloudy with temperatures still above average for this time of the year, with highs in the 40s. a cold front will move through during the morning on tuesday which will could bring a quick rain/snow mix through central iowa, but accumulation is not expected. winds will pick up during the middle of the week with temperatures dropping back into the middle to upper 30s.

the number of farms in iowa is dropping. there are now 87,500 farms. compared to last year, that's 500 fewer. but the total acres of farmland are unchanged according to the usda's national agricultural statistics service. the sales class shows low sale farms are getting smaller, while middle scale farms are getting bigger. sales class is how much a farm sells or gets in government payments. farms making less than $10,000 lost 100,000 acres, while farms $250,000- $499,999 gained 100,000. that tier now averages 526 acres per farm. nationally, about 18,000 farms were lost in 2015, now at 2.07 million. total acres lost is a million acres and the average farm size is up
