violently inside the home. there was a lot of blood inside 23 that bloody crime scene helped investigator solve her murder. they collected samples from inside the home... and followed a blood trail leading away from where mcneeley was killed. the d-c-i crime lab tested them and a d-n-a match led investigators to this man... police 08:57:32 that match came back to a man by the name of ali yahia- who is a known violent offender . he's the same man.. urbandale police shot and killed on february 13th... at the holiday inn. officers responding to a drug complaint say yahia pulled out a gun and started shooting. they returned fire..killing him... almost three weeks after it's believed he killed mcneeley. neighbor 02:02:40 it's just a horrible thing and it would be horrible to happen to anybody, but they were just so vulnerable and the crime was just so atrocious 52 the 71 year old lived with her sister...who is disabled. police dont know of any connection between mcneeley and her killer. police 09:00:45 we don't know why he targeted that house. it's really anybody's guess

grocery stores in des moines. he reached a plea deal, and was sentenced to probation. then in january of 20-15, he was charged with second, third, and fourth degree theft. again, he received probation, a suspended sentence, and was fined about 17 hundred dollars. a des moines man is in custody after police say he stabbed another man overnight. the victim looked for help at this downtown quik trip around 2-30 this morning. he told officers he was stabbed during an argument at a nearby party. a little later, police arrested 22 year old daniel cruz. he's charged with "assault with a dangerous weapon." cruz is being held in the polk county jail on a four thousand dollar bond. a des moines woman is accused of setting her former fiance on fire. 47 year old amy thornton is charged with "attempted murder" and "willful injury." police say she lit the man on fire while they were arguing saturday. they say she originally claimed it was an accident. the victim is expected to recover. thornton remains in the polk county jail on a 110 thousand dollar bond.

boone man charged with killing his wife. investigators believe 41 year emily fazzino... her body was found on a bathroom shared in 2012... at first her death was ruled accidental, but a second autopsy indicated otherwise. the trial is being held in delayed five separate times... the most recent delay allowed fazzino to care for his daughter marrow transplant. officials say a clive hunter legally shot a trophy buck... in 20-14, joe franz was charged with "hunting over bait" after killing this deer. the department of natural resources claimed franz used bait to lure it to him. that's illegal during hunting season in iowa. the charge was dropped after a judge ruled it was not influenced by the bait. the buck is believed to be the biggest whitetail ever harvested on video. a cedar falls teacher is accused of stealing student

douglas wilkinson is charged with unlawful possession of prescription drugs and filing a false police report. police say the drugs were stolen from a locked cabinet at the junior high taught english. to improve iowa's academic standards... on wednesday, dozens of them will meet to review literacy standards. by the governor to review all areas, including science and social studies. the meeting is open to the public and will take place at the grimes state office building. it runs from nine-30 a-m to four p-m. those wanting to grab a good book in clive will have to wait.... the city library is now closed for renovation. officials say the building, built in 2001, was starting to show wear and tear. so... instead of making small repairs over a period of time they decided to close the library for a week the renovations will include new carpet, lighting and the overall layout will be reconfigured.

michigan on saturday. the town is unable to drink or shower with the city's water... because of lead contamination. so hy-vee loaded the trucks up with bottled water. morris says he wants to visit the town sometime after the basketball season ends. both iowa state and iowa still have plenty to accomplish on the basketball court. they each dropped four spots in the latest a-p rankings... the hawkeyes are at number eight, following a loss on the road at penn state last week... the cyclones are at number 17, after losing at baylor, then winning against t-c-u at home. according to e-s-p-n's leading "bracketologist," the hawks are now a two seed in the n-c-double-a tournament. the cyclones are a four seed. but the real seedings are released on sunday, march 13th. another country superstar is joining the lineup at the iowa state fair... brett eldredge will take the granstand stage on saturday, august 13th. tickets go on sale march fifth, and start at 32 dollars. dierks bentley and jason derulo

days after johnston learned it won't be a site for a new headquarters following the proposed merger of dow chemical and dupont- pioneer..some iowa lawmakers are pushing a plan they say will help small businesses. it's called coupling...and it means some of the things you can deduct on your federal taxes...you'd also be able to claim on your state taxes. but extending that tax break another year...would cost the state treasury an estimated 95 million dollars. political director dave price listened to lawmakers' pitch for the tax extension. their pitch is this... it's not just businesses that would benefit by being able to deduct some of the cost of new equipment. teachers could do...as they write off some of the costs they have buying supplies for their classroom. the tax breaks could mean 250 dollars for some teachers for whatever they bought for their

it's always hard to get up really early for a morning radio show, but it was getting harder and harder and harder it's never easy waking up at three fifteen, but it's especially difficult when extra pounds weigh you down. van hardin has helped get people going in the morning on the radio for 30 years... then last year, hardin found it hard to get out of bed himself. channel 13's megan reuther shares how he's transformed his health... the story is new at five. @21:38 "let's check some traffic this morning." you're used to hearing this
