"things like trump, trump, trump, trying to intimidate us with the things mr. trump has said that he's going to do with immigrants and their children." "we are all aware of racism, it's alive and well in small portions but it's alive and well and it's just hurtful to see that's what they resort to. perry administrators say about 48 percent of its population is

meanwhile, dallas center grimes' athletic director tells us he's aware of the chant and is now addressing the issue... he would not say whether that includes disciplining any students. the aclu is pushing back against a plan to get students in waukee to say the pledge of allegiance each day. monday, the district decided to expand the pledge routine through high school. aclu representatives responded yesterday, saying they're concerned free speech issues are at stake. the school's superintendent told the des moines register they offer the pledge, but no student is required to recite it. we now know the name of the man shot at an elementary school parking lot last night... it happened shortly after eight o'clock near park avenue elementary on the city's south side. police say darrius colter was shot in the upper leg - he is expected to be okay. officers canvased the area.. using flashlights to search for

police aren't saying at this point, whether they've determined a suspect. testimony continues this morning in the murder trial for a man accused of killing his wife. 41-year-old alexander fazzino of boone is charged with first degree murder in the 2012 death of emily fazzino. fazzino claims her death was a suicide, triggered by an addiction to prescription meds. both sides agree emily did have a previous addiction... but the state is trying to show she was on the path to recovery. they argue there were no traces of opiates found in her blood following the death. they'll also try to show she was planning to leave her husband -- after police were called to their home just a week before she died. "you're going to hear that after everything settled and the police had left, emily, who was slowly getting stronger at this time, standing up to

the defense claims emily fainted from withdrawl symptoms -- which they believe led to her accidental drowning. the state historical building is looking for a different space this morning... but not because of growth. what we know is we have a real challenge because we haven't necessarily had the funding to keep up with the square footage that we've had so there have actually been exibits that have been on display since this building opened 28 years ago workers say their current building is too big. so they're looking at reducing its size.. that would mean turning the east side of the building into green space... and opening up the south end to cafe and retail space. the change would cost 82-million dollars... organizers are hoping lawmakers approve a portion of that yet this session. des moines school teachers are asking kids to think ahead to summer this morning. they say the time is now to start searching for a summer job. channel 13's josh nguyen joins

he is at the parks department in des moines where they hope to hire some of those kids for the summer. good morning josh. "for a lot of our students, the most challenging part of finding a job is knowing where to go and who to talk to. also, knowing what you need to take and how they can be prepared to go into applying for a job." looking to hire almost 300 seasonal summer workers. the positions will be available to younger adults and hs students. they've worked with dmps before on training students for summer jobs.the time crunch is on because they will have the training for seasonal workers over spring break. that leaves just over 2 weeks to get them to apply and pass a

checks. "we know beyond the walls of lot of employibility skills that our students need to understand and need to have in order to be successful in college. or working or whatever the next stage of their lives is. so, we feel that them working outside of the

this last year a strong el nino weather event formed and iowa felt the effects. the state had a wet and mild november and december. then in january and february the weather changed to more average

that's not very typical for the el nino event in iowa, state climatologist harry hillaker says there really isn't another year this one could be compared to. the closest he found was another strong el nino event back in 1982. that had a fully mild winter; a cool, wet spring; and then a hot, dry summer. looking into spring of 2016, hillaker says it's hard to predict with confidence. in terms of temperatures there are just historical tendencies. he says, "very often, the spring season has been on the warmer side of usual maybe 60-65 percent of the time and the summer months, much warmer more often yet than that. maybe 70-75 percent of the time with el nino. our summer season has been on the warmer side of usual." hillaker says on the precipitation predictions, just about anything is possible, but it tends to be on
