details? this was three months ago...the week of thanksgiving...this was a messy crime scene. officers were called to this duplex in the 42-hundred block of hull avenue shortly after seven p-m. police say 47 year old barney fraaken shot his wife, amy, and their 16-year- old daughter, amber.... before turning the gun on himself. his attempt to commit suicide failed. they believe the double murder was part of some sort of domestic dispute. fraaken has been in the hospital recovering ever since then, but yesterday, he was released from the hospital and immediately charged. he now faces two counts of 1st degree murder. he's being held in polk county jail. 386957 1:30 - 1:37 parizek he's

at the hospital as he recovers. as soon as he's able to stand in front of the judge, were going to file the charges. we are finding out more this morning about a shooting in a des moines elementary school parking lot. it happened tuesday night near park avenue elementary on the city's south side. now police say the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone bad. they say someone was trying to buy

from a passing car. darrius colter was hit in the upper leg - he is expected to be okay. police did find a gun and bullet casings near the school, but there's still no word on a suspect. a des moines police officer is costing the city half-a-million dollars this morning... this is what kaileigh joiner's car looked like after she was t-boned by a police officer. the officer ran a red light.. and he didn't have his emergency lights and siren on. that was back in april of 20-13. now the des moines register reports a polk county jury awarded joiner and two other people in the car 422- thousand dollars for their injuries. metro drivers will want to watch out for officers especially today. they'll be watching interstate 2-35 extra close for speeding. the effort brings together

officials say it's meant to save lives by raising awareness of safe driving habits. a chant from the student section at a high school basketball game continues to stir controversy... monday during the playoff game between dallas center-grimes and perry, some students on the dallas center- grimes side began chanting donald trump's name as a taunt aimed at perry's largely hispanic roster. administrator's from dallas center-grimes immediately put a stop to it, but it was too late to keep the story from going viral. the iowa high school athletic association has now weighed in, saying it's up to administrators from both sides to take action and keep this kind of poor sportsmanship under wraps. dallas center grimes' athletic director says he did hear the chant, but didn't have to say anything because students stopped as soon as they saw him.

ames educators are speaking out against a new mandatory school start date this morning. for years ames schools were forced to hold 1st semester finals after winter break to align schedules with iowa state university... but just when they found a way to avoid the problem, and give students a true holiday break without studying, governor branstad signed a bill requiring classes begin no earlier than august 23rd. the move was to allow rural students to participate in the iowa state fair... but it left ames schools with no choice but to go back to testing after winter break. teachers and parents say it isn't fair to their students. take sot < 'i wish that the governor had left control with the local school districts. the rural districts they do have participation in the state fair but those are concerns we just dont
