and it comes a little over a month after police say 28-year old edward shorter did the same thing... escape from the newton correctional facility... shorter was captured a day later in des moines after walking away from the facility.. channel 13's mike dasilva joins us... mike.. two more inmates escaped last night... it was saturday night during a routine count when it was discovered the inmates were missing. at 9:25 inmate michael amodeo was discovered missing. then at at 10:05 , inmate jessy foley was discovered missing as well. both men were serving sentences on drug charges. the department of corrections says most of the people in the facility the inmates escaped from are working their way out of the system... 02:56:12--28 'are people who have completed their recommended programming and services and are basically working their way out

system so. a lot of times the parole board will want somebody to spend some time in minimum security before they consider putting them on some type of release. either work release or parole.' fred scaletta isn't sure whether the inmates that escaped pose a threat to the public. he says most people who make this choice to escape dont want to get caught, so a lot of times they try to stay hidden as much as they can. meanwhile, if the inmates are dangerous, local resident david kessler, who's had a run with an escaped inmate before, is prepared. 03:15:12--15 ' i got protection at my house. i lock my doors and i got a handgun, so 03:15:34--55 'this happened a while back last summer too with a female inmate from the jail and escaped 03:15:41 'she came right through my yard so, i had the cops everything over there so, searching with the dogs and stuff. is that right? from the same facility or from sheriffs station. is that why you got a gun? yup. the department of corrections is investigating the escape to find out exactly what happened and to make sure it doesn't happen

anyone with information as to the whereabouts of amodeo or foley should immediately call 911. the trial of a des moines man charged in a deadly high-speed crash will resume tomorrow. troy mure junior walked away from this crash in november. first responders said they couldn't believe anyone survived. mure's passenger did not survive. mure is charged with vehicular homicide for the death of 22-year old scalicity boyd. her mother took the stand today. 10:27:30 she was a friend to anyone rather if you liked her or not, you're going to like her at the end of the day mure was going 86-miles per hour 3-times the speed limit. he says it was because he was being chased. a witness backed up that claim. ricky 10:47:24 they were weaving in and around traffic. i thought that maybe at first, they were just racing, but that was not the case. they were other. mure requested a bench trial...

fate. the trial is expected to last another two days. iowa lawmakers are getting tough on animal abusers... under the bill approved today by the senate... a person accused of abusing an animal could be charged with a felony. right now animal abuse is an aggravated misdemeanor. the bill also requires the department of human services to do a wellness check if the abuse happens in front of a child. hillary clinton and donald trump are banking on tomorrow being a big day for their campaigns. voters in these 11-states will make their pick for the democratic nominee... polls have hillary clinton leading in eight of those states... the ones marked in yellow. senator bernie sanders is ahead in just two. we left out colorado because there isn't any recent polling information there. on the republican side... these 14- states are up for grabs... and donald trump could win most of them... polls have him ahead in eight of the states.. the ones marked in red. senator ted cruz is ahead in arkansas and in his home state of texas. senator marco rubio is leading

along highway 141 in grimes to the 'y' a decade ago. at that time the 'y' planned to build a new facility to replace its rented location at the grimes community complex. now they plan to sell the land.. and close the rented location at the end of april. '10 years ago the ymca made a commitment to grimes to build a new location on the northeast part of town and just to see that being abandoned is frustrating.' in pulling out of grimes the 'y' says its prioritizing its finances and focusing on projects currently underway... that could involve finishing the pool at the wellmark y-m-c-a in downtown des moines. that location opened in january of 20-15.... but the 'y' has been unable to raise the money to complete the project. in addition to finishing the pool.. and selling the land in grimes.. the 'y' is also searching for a new c-e-o. vernon delpesce resigned last month. c-o-o wade riedinger is filling in until someone is hired. two des moines babies can celebrate their birthdays
