[ crowd booing ] well, if they're going to vote for me, we'll think about it, right? but i have a feeling they're not going to vote. >> reporter: trump citing a 2014 "washington post" story about possible voter fraud and trump suggesting undocumented immigrants helped president obama. >> it is possible that noncitizen votes were responsible for obama's 2008 victory in north carolina. >> reporter: trump telling me it's why his voters will be on the lookout on election day. >> i think we have to be very vigilant and careful with people that are voting. >> reporter: trump's rigged election rhetoric causing another split with speaker paul ryan, who disagrees with the notion. is paul ryan hurting you or helping you? >> i don't want to be knocking paul ryan. i think he could be more supportive to the republican nominee. we're doing well. i think we're going to win the election. >> reporter: do you think he wants you to win? >> well, maybe not because he

win. maybe he doesn't know how to win. >> reporter: on the issue of voter fraud an election expert tells abc news it's incredibly rare and politifact is ranking donald trump's use of certain stats to show large-scale voter fraud as pants on fire false, their lowest ranking. robin? >> okay, tom, thank you. now to hillary clinton looking to gain momentum and expand into traditionally red states. her campaign dramatically wrapping up efforts in arizona. but this morning, she's facing tough new questions about her e-mails. abc's cecilia vega is here with all of that. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, robin. and this morning, allegations of a quid pro quo. the implication here that a top state department official was trying to protect hillary clinton from the political fallout of having classified information on her private server. the state department and the fbi say it never happened. but republicans say not so fast. the stars were out for a big hillary clinton fund-raiser overnight in new york. billy crystal, sarah jessica parker, barbra streisand, just

least $2 million. ? happy times happy times ? >> reporter: but this morning, newly released notes from fbi interviews about clinton's private server, in them, what republicans are calling this bombshell. an fbi staffer accuses a top state department official of pressuring the bureau to declassify an e-mail found on that server. the fbi staffer telling investigators that the request amounted to a quo. adding in exchange for marking the e-mail unclassified, state would reciprocate by allowing the fbi to place more agents in countries where they are presently forbidden. the fbi and state department say the deal never happened. there was no quid pro quo and that the e-mail in question remained classified. >> there was no quid pro quo. >> this shows corruption at the highest level and we can't let it happen as american citizens. >> reporter: clinton's team still feeling confident about

in republican territory -- arizona, utah, and georgia. and in arizona three big name surrogates, bernie sanders, chelsea clinton and the heaviest hitter of all michelle obama all headed there this week. clinton herself still off the campaign trail, behind closed doors, george, she's practicing for tomorrow's debate. >> big event tomorrow night, cecilia, thanks very much. let's talk to matthew dowd about all of this. we know the clinton campaign now going big into arizona, making some kind of a play in indiana and missouri, as well. so the question, is this smart politics or overconfidence? >> well, i think it's a little bit of both. i think it's fairly smart to force your opponent -- she's now playing on her opponent's side of the field. and the clock is on her side. the clock is running out. she has a lead but it is demonstrating a little bit of overconfidence. because she's not put away oy ohio. and has not fully put away north carolina. and she has not put away florida. so she has to protect those states, because she wants to win

but i think she has a real possibility of carrying arizona. >> even though she doesn't need one of those three big states she wants it for security going for the 270. tomorrow night, final presidential debate and a little of what each has to do. donald trump, we have seen what he's doing. he's going to try to provoke a mistake from clinton. >> she has almost wrapped this race up, at this point in time. she has a huge national lead. a lead in almost every state. he has to win but he can't just have a bare victory but a big victory. and he has to hope that for some reason, that deba something that all of us are going to be talking about for the three days following. >> the danger for her would be sort of overcautiousness. >> well, i think she's going to go in and knows that running out the clock is what she needs to do. if she goes in like she did in the first debate, like she did in the second debate, and does well, she's going to win this race. >> okay, matthew dowd, thanks very much. you can see the final presidential debate tomorrow night right here on abc. i'll be anchoring our live coverage with our whole political team starting at 9:00 eastern. >> all right, george. >> i'm going to stay up late.

against isis, the u.s. is lending support to a massive military operation now in its second day. to knock the terror group out of its last strong hold in iraq. alex marquardt has more from the front lines. he's at a refugee camp. >> reporter: progress is being made but it's slow going. isis showing they are not going away without a fight. we are here at a camp for the displaced. many that you see here lived under isis. they've been telling us their stories, as the u.n. braces for a huge, fleeing the fighting. pushing towards mosul, iraqi forces this morning on the move, here fighters going house to house to take back a village. but the militants putting up fierce resistance, booby-trapping homes and sending out suicide bombers. air strikes from the u.s. led coalition have paved the way. american special forces are advising the troops. leaflets dropped telling residents to stay inside away from isis positions. here a truck careening into a

isis claimed it deployed 12 suicide bombers on the first day of fighting. aid agencies are bracing for hundreds of thousands fleeing. in the coming weeks. many here have lived under the terror of isis. hussein telling us he and his brothers were due to be executed with before they escaped. you can't sleep without fear? >> yes, you cannot guess when will they take you at night. and kill you. >> reporter: they would just come and randomly come and take people and kill them. we will hear a lot of stories like that in the coming days. it could be some time before this fight is over. the pentagon says they're ahead of schedule, but it could be weeks or months before isis is pushed out of mosul. george?

battle. okay, alex, thanks very much. the latest on a manhunt in alaska where a gunman ambushed a police officer, shot him several types before making his getaway the patrol car of the wounded officer. abc's neal karlinsky is tracking the case. >> reporter: you're looking at fairbanks police officer allen brandt's dash cam, responding to a call of shots fired sunday morning. the first thing he sees is a man on the right walking towards him. then suddenly the same man rushes to the driver's side of the patrol car with a gun raised wer part of his bos in the n and sergeant brandt was wearing body armor which protected his chest area. he sustained injuries to his legs and shrapnel in his left eye. he is awake, alert, and in stable condition. >> reporter: the suspect is seen one last time calmly walking away after stealing the patrol car and dumping it a few blocks later. this morning police say an urgent manhunt is on. the alleged attempt on police,

officers in recent weeks. in havallejo, california, this dramatic surveillance video, officers with guns drawn chasing a man they say tried to attack them while they were having coffee sunday. >> a man with a rifle just tried to ambush us at starbucks. carrying a rifle. hey, shoot him. >> reporter: police say 41-year-old adam powell was wearing body armor and had a handgun and an assault-type rifle on him. >> came up to the glass and pointed a rifle at us. >> reporter: the gun jamming as he approached. officers chased him ti wounding powell who was also a person of interest in the shooting of his 2-year-old son injured earlier that day. >> we presume that this was a premeditated ambush on our officers. >> reporter: back in alaska sergeant brandt is very lucky to be alive. the number of police officers shot and killed on the job is up more than 50% in just the last year. george? >> wow, thank goodness for that body armor. neal, thanks very much.

i think that it's keeping the story alive for one thing but another is that melania trump in some ways is not terribly recognizable to a lot of voters. during the republican convention i interviewed a number of republican female delegates who basically said that they couldn't relate to her. she was too beautiful, she was too rich and that they didn't see her as an authentic person in the same way that people see michelle obama, for instance. >> she the accusers. it seems like that was part of the strategy in having her come out and speak, cokie. >> well, in some ways i think that -- that in some ways was her most effective part because it was about her as opposed to being about her husband where they went after me so why not. but, again, that brings up her past and gives people excuses to put out nude pictures of her which is not terribly helpful to the campaign. >> i think the other part you

her publicly accepting her husband's apology. >> well, which, of course, she did in the statement and now she's done publicly, as well but, again, i don't think that that is something that people would expect her to do anything else but accept his apology. but, you know, look, looking at voters who basically say they don't care, we've got a very partisan electorate right now, what i do think might be true is that it might have energized some of hillary clinton's to say we don't want this man. >> i know, because martha raddatz was here picking up on what you were just saying, cokie, martha raddatz was here, she spoke to voters who basically said, it doesn't matter. it doesn't matter what he did. so as a bigger deal being made out of it than it really is? >> well, i think that -- no, i really don't think so. i think even if it doesn't matter to a lot of voters who are very firmly set in their place that it has started a national conversation, robin.

than the 800 they know about including one that ended in a fatality, but have you ever heard of anything like this? >> no, michael. this is an outrageous case. this woman crenshanda williams may have hung up on thousands of callers and as you said two really serious cases, one involving an armed robbery where there was a fatal shooting and a second one involving a woman who became unconscious. her husband's calling 911 talking to miss williams trying to administer cpr and up on him. now, fortunately for this woman, she's revived and she has survived this ordeal. but these are very serious accusations against someone who was entrusted with a very serious job of providing emergency assistance and she just said she didn't have time for the callers. >> accusations, areva and also charges. two misdemeanor charges. what do you make of that? >> well, i think the law that's being used to prosecute miss williams wasn't really designed

joining us now with that and let's say right up we're talking about type 2 diabetes. >> exactly, exactly. >> and you got nearly 10% of americans have this and one in three are sort of so-called prediabetics so that's a lot of people right there. how much exercise do people need to reduce this risk? >> so this is really interesting. they looked at 28 studies that followed thousands of people over many years to try to address that and what they found was if you do the 30 minutes five times a week, which is recommended, it greatly reduces the amount -- your risk of getting type 2 diabetes. if you do more than that, your risk goes down even further but what really grabbed me was that if you do less, if you do only ten minutes a day, you get some benefit compared to people who do nothing so every bit helps. you shouldn't be put off by the fact i don't have enough time. >> right, but more is more and timing was also very important in the study, correct? >> so, a separate study looked at people who had type 2 diabetes and said, okay, you've got your 30 minutes to do, do you do it as one block or do you break it up?

delicious. >> anybody know what kind of pasta that is. >> little pillows. >> like baby raf reallies. >> that's delicious. in any pasta is good pasta. i don't care how it's shaped >> all sounds italian but everything is used with american ingredients because it's the white house. >> wow. >> if you were going to host a party like this a state dinner who would you have prepare it and what wow ask for. >> marcus samuelsson. i get him first. i get to pick >> oh, yes. >> marcus, marcus. >> if this would be a restaurant you definitely would be the guest, you should eat the food and george should sell the food. but you prepared obama's first state dinner. so what goes into this meal? >> well, you know, it's a lot of preparation and everything getting checked, the right

now, you know it's such a big honor and mario has done so much but this still would be a day that he'll always remember. for me it's one of the biggest honors i've had to cook for our president and the first lady. >> marcus, you're such a terrific chef. [ applause ] but knowing mario, having been there, will he have a case of the nerves today? >> a little bit. i mean a little bit nervous is not bad. it's a big occasion but then you have to control your staff. basically we had -- it's like minutes, not 45. and, you know you got to plate 400 dishes right away and then, boom, then on to something else, right. so it's really about timing, organization and not being too nervous. >> and how much input did the first lady and president have on the menu? >> oh, michelle is the boss, you know that. what are you talking about? you know that, george. no, she -- with our dinner she just started her initiative with let's move so focused a lot on

has a lot of vegetables in this dinner as well so this initiative about healthy and better food for our country is definitely coming through on this menu as well. >> but he also has tiramisu so a little injuly jensen not so bad. >> he'll be there in his orange crocs. >> and he will be in his orange cro oc cros c >> good luck. sweet, bring it in, boys. >> what. >> halloween. [ applause ] >> oh. >> just around the corner. everybody here like candy, raise your hand if you like a little sweet treat? i know you do. i will make sure we share. fun little story wondering if you guys know what is the favorite candy, halloween candy in your home state. >> i think it's given away by what we have in front of us. >> did you know beforehand?

favorite. my go to in cvs. >> one of my favorites too the hershey kisses, perfect. >> i was born in massachusetts, starburst, grew up in ohio, milky way but my favorite from michigan, m&ms. >> i do love candy. >> peanut m&ms. this is texas but i got t that's not for me. i don't like candy corn. >> i'll eat one more. i like it because i'm very mature and like to to do this. [ applause ] >> you know, that one tooth like that would be counted me as a vampire, one long tooth in the middle. i love sour patch kids and love m&ms.

>> you play golf in new jersey. >> yes, i do. >> that's the candy of new jersey. >> that's why i like new jersey. >> that's all i had. i was looking for an excuse to bring out candy to my favorite people so i'll pass out. you guys move on. >> you do that. >> here we go. >> while you guys are handing out the candy, let me tell you about something that we're bringing you this morning. jarrius robertson is one inspiring teenager who caught the eye of his favorite football team and mine. i'm talking about the new orleans saints. who dat nation rise but he's got the strength, you know, he is a little guy but has the strength of someone like you a hall of famer. we'll talk to him and have some surprises for him but first jarrius' story. >> hi, brother. >> reporter: jarrius jair isn't your average new orleans saints fan. >> i'm your size. >> reporter: what you call a

>> have wheels. >> we'll put one of those in. >> touchdown. >> reporter: he attends practices and games and even shows them a little tough love. >> you're trying to do stuff thaw can't do. you're trying to be mr. showoff. >> reporter: this quality time with his favorite team keeps jarrius' spirits up as he faces a serious illness, the 14-year-old has been battling chronic liver disease his entire life which has affected his physical growth and he's currently on the waiting list for a liver transplant. >> in the hospital for 7 to 14 days is kind of rough for a kid. >> reporter: he met the st. one year ago during one of his extended hospital stays at ochsner hospital for children. >> you two guys to hit as hard as you can. >> reporter: and he made a lasting impression. [ cheers and applause ] >> way to go.

>> it's game time. >> game time for jarrius robertson, come on. game time. >> all right, man. >> have a seat. have a seat. oh. >> this feels good. >> does it feel good? >> la-z-boy. >> it is. nothing but the best for you, jarrius. so tell us, you know, the first time you met the st. i heard you couldn't even sleep the night before the nurses told you that they were coming to the hospital. tell us about that time. >> well, before everything started, i couldn't sleep because i wanted to know who was coming until the nurse spilled the beans and then they told me and when they got there, i was like, i was very excited because that was my very first time meeting them in person. >> and in that piece it looked like you were giving them some good tips. were you giving them tough love. >> yeah, because you have to be tough or you're going to be

[ applause ] >> you tell it good. >> i'm scared of him. you should be. >> i got down in a three-point stance and said you want to go and he said, i'll hurt you. i'm good. >> i hear you do a mean drew brees imper nation. what is your -- >> on the video game he goes a little like this. >> okay. >> we're new orleans saints, we're going to do what we do play what why do. we be us, we be strong and then ay >> and then -- >> okay. >> not yet. not only that, but -- >> wait, there's more. >> on the line he always licks his hand before he touch the ball. i don't know why but he does. he goes like this. red 90. ohio. then he do that. >> you've been paying attention.

hey, you know -- >> but i know you have a special motto that you want to share with everybody. what's your otto. >> it takes lives to save lives. >> it takes lives to save lives. >> that means -- >> what does that mean. >> that means like people go out and donate anything like blood, organ, kidney or liver and it can save somebody else's life. >> yeah. >> you know -- >> amen. >> that's true. [ applause ] and you know, my sister donated her stem cells was a way of saving someone's life so i understand what you're going through and we're here for you and i know that your dad, jordy, you want to talk about that about how people, people can save other people's lives. >> our motto is it takes lives to save lives. something me and jarrius decided and started to reach people through social media, contacting them, word of mouth. anything to get the word out that becoming an organ donor can help save a lot of people's lives. >> that's rue.

the new orleans saints have been there for us, they have been our inspiration, our backbone. they call and check up on him. they're our next home. >> who dat nation. >> who dat nation. who dat nation. [ applause ] >> you know, well, we have some special people joining us from that who dat nation. we have head coach sean payton, quarterback drew brees and defensive end cam jordan. >> cam jordan. >> yes. [ cheers and applause ] >> wow. okay. i don't think i've ever been happier than i am right now. you know how much i love my beloved new orleans st. and to see them all here and have jarrius here too. what was so special, cam and drew, so special about this little guy right here who is with us? >> i mean, the first time i met him he came in and just really hit me with that reel. you need to get in there and sack the quarterback. this is what you got to do. you can't fall off, cam.

you know, that's just eye opening, you know. >> and for you, drew. >> jarrius has been to -- jarrius has to been to about four or five practices and every time i get some type of coaching point and sent me a selfie video there from new york telling us that we need to quit making these games so close. we need to try, you know, put in a few more points between, you know, at the end of the game so we can -- we don't make it so scary, but now love having jarrius out here. he's such an inspirational young man, his strength, his attitude and he's welcome out here any time. we love him. >> you know, he gave a great impersonation of you and robin said she's excited to see you guys. i'm excited to see you because you're not in uniform and not getting beat like a drum so and sean, you coach with the giantss when i was with the giantss and i know, you know, you've had a lot of success down in new
