donald trump is spending his day at trump tower. the lobby is currently closed to the general public. joyce: the scene outside is chaotic with protestors and supporters milling about. so here's a look at the latest numbers. donald trump defeating hillary clinton 279-228 in the electoral college. just a states are still awaiting three -- just three states are still awaiting results. clinton is narrowly leading in new hampshire, trump in arizona and michigan. donald trump gave his acceptance speech in the middle of the night,y sleeping. here's what he had to say. >> america will no longer settle for anything less than the best. we must reclaim our country's destiny and dream big and bold and daring. we have to do that. we are going to dream of things for our country and beautiful things and successful things once again.

americans who invested their hopes and dreams in this effort. this is painful, and it will be for a long time, but i want you to remember this, our campaign was never about one person or even when election. it was about the country we love, and about building an america that is hopeful, inclusive, and bighearted. to all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in this campaign and e -- and in me, i want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion. joyce: there has been some negative reaction to trump's win, but so far, no reports of any violence. early this morning, students marched at the university of pittsburgh. there were also protests on the west coast in the states where clinton won, in california, oregon and washington. in new york city tonight, protestors plan to march from union square to trump tower. right now, the hashtag notmypresident is trending on twitter.

are being tossed around as potential picks to serve in trump's cabinet. politico is reporting milwaukee county sheriff david clarke is a possible candidate for homeland security secretary. 12 news asked the sheriff about the report. he told us, "let me make this clear i am the sheriff of , milwaukee county. i will continue to be the sheriff of milwaukee county until i am no longer the sheriff of milwaukee county, at which time i won't be the sheriff of milwaukee county." and according to time magazine, chairman reince priebus is the inside favorite to serve as chief of staff. the kenosha native took on a leading role, encouraging trump to stay on message during the final weeks of the campaign. governor scott walker says trump and mike pence have hinted over the past few months about finding a place for him in their administration. however, the governor says he plans to finish out his term and concentrate on his job as the new chairman of the republican governors association. one wisconsin politician who has

thompson. he is also a prominent donald trump supporter, and the former governor spoke today with political reporter kent wainscott. >> we talked with tommy thompson about election results, the first 100 days of the new administration, and his election day conversation with president-elect donald trump. >> hello, this is tommy. he says, how are you tommy? how's wisconsin doing? i said, i don't know, i'm hopeful. he says, i tell you what tommy, i'm going to win wisconsin and i feel really good. on his cabinet. you've served in a cabinet. you've sat at that table. you know what it takes to run a department. what does he need to look for? >> he's got to have some really competent individuals that are innovative and are willing to make changes in america. and reach out appoint a democrat , to the cabinet. pick some democrat and appoint him, you know, say i want to be bi-partisan. >> thompson also has some thoughts about trump's first days in office.

government and we will work hand in hand on a positive agenda to tackle this country's big challenges. donald trump pulled off an amazing political feet. he deserves tremendous credit for that. it helped us keep our majorities but it also showed the country , that people don't like the direction we are going. we need to change direction and what i'm excited about is we in congress along with our nominee who is now the president elect offered a very specific and clear and coherent agenda on which direction we should take the country and that is now the that's why i'm excited about working with our president-election, working with our vice-president elect on the transition to make sure we hit the ground running. there's no doubt our democracy can be very messy and we do remain a sharply divided country , but now, as we do every four years we have to work to heal , the divisions of a long campaign. i think president-elect donald trump set the perfect tone last night for doing just this and i

secretary clinton are committed to bringing the country together . this needs to be a time of redemption not a time of , incrimination. we all need to rededicate ourselves to making america great and making it a more , perfect union. joyce: now let's take a closer look at how the race broke down among voters in wisconsin. patrick, what a lot of people are wondering who voted for who. patrick: joyce our team has been , looking at data from exit associated press. here's what we found when it came to race and gender. six out of every 10 votes donald trump received were from white men. trump and clinton battled to a draw among white women. women overall favored clinton, but more than four in 10 women went with trump. of hispanic voters, six out of every 10 supported clinton. as far as age goes, clinton won among voters ages 18 to 44. trump won the 45 and older group. that group also made up about 60% of the total voters in

24, clinton was strongest among 30 to 39-year-olds. trump carried 50 to 64-year-olds. so what mattered most for wisconsin voters in the presidential race? when asked this question leaving the polls, about four out of said the next president needed 10 to bring about change. kathy: republicans in wisconsin now have their biggest legislative majorities in decades. the party gained a seat in the assembly to bring the gop majority to that's the largest 64-35. advantage assembly republicans have had since 1957. republicans held on to two seats . plus, they picked up another seat to increase their majority to 20-12. that's the gop's largest majority in the senate since 1971. the seat belonging to minority leader jennifer shilling is up in the air after her race with republican dan kapanke was still too close to call. state republicans say they are

republican majority might give them. robin vos also sees a donald trump presidency as an opportunity to re-opened the discussion about raising revenue to improve wisconsin's roads, something governor walker is against. >> that is one thing where i am totally in sync with donald trump. i want to make sure we have strong infrastructure. you can't do that by borrowing more money or having phantom savings to be used in the future to pay for these projects. kathy: the next session of the legislature begins in january. ron johnson is headed back to washington. mike gousha is back to talk about the senate race. patrick: ron johnson outperform donald trump.

the johnson-feingold race was expected to be close. let's take a look at some of the numbers we have been examining. ron johnson getting 1,000,004 and 79,000 votes. johnson received roughly 70,000 more votes than donald trump did in yesterday's election. patrick: the house speaker today talked about donald trump providing coattails for some candidates around the country. were there coattails in this race? >> an interview that he thinks that maybe there were johnson called tales -- coattails. there were places like waukesha county in waukesha county who were fired up. some of those same people were a little less certain about donald trump. as we know, some conservative media were not big fans of donald trump. what happened? they went into the boot then voted for ron johnson, then

joyce: now weighing in on the election in the united states. russian president vladimir putin sent a telegram to president-elect trump. he also made a televised statement, expressing hope the relationship between the two countries could be put back on track. the european union is not sure what to make of the results just yet. they are holding a special meeting sunday to discuss the situation. kathy: the 28 foreign ministers will meet in belgium to discuss what president-elect donald trump will mean for trans-atlantic relations. they've said in the past they fear trump would lead to an isolationist and protectionist

says he invited president elect donald trump to the white house tomorrow to plot out a successful transition. the president says it's vital for the country to move forward. >> everybody is sad when their side loses an election, but the day after we have to remember that we're actually all on one team. this is an intramural scrimmage. we're not democrats first. we're not republicans first. we are americans first. we're patriots first. we all want what's best for this country. joyce: president obama spoke from the white house rose garden this morning. he noted that he and trump have had big differences but he's , confident that the incredible american journey will continue. kathy: initial news sent stocks plunging overnight. at one point, dow futures were down 850 points.

spoke to a local economist about what's next for your money. >> with president-elect donald trump set to take office in 2017, experts say, initially there will be changes in the economy. >> the dow jones industrial average will fall. s&p 500 will fall. we'll see the value of the dollar declining mexican peso , will take a big hit because of these election results. >> abdur chowdhury from marquette university says economic uncertainty will remain unwe the president-elect, especially when it comes to the affordable care act, which trump says he would repeal. >> since he hasn't given an alternative, so we don't know what will replace obamacare, so that is where some uncertainty is. >> one silver lining, economists say, the price of gold might rise in the near future. >> on the other hand, you will see gold prices go up.

kathy: between the negative ads and the harsh exchanges during the debates, it's been a brutal election season. joyce: that has many parents asking how to respond to their children's questions about donald trump's victory and hillary clinton's loss. that includes young girls who were waiting to witness history.
