sparks fly after plane's nose gear collapses. good monday morning to you. i'm ryan smith. >> and i'm mara schiavocampo. diane and kendis are off. we begin this morning with the grim search inside a deadly warehouse fire entering its third day. >> a memorial is growing in oakland where mourners have left flowers and other remembrances at the scene. the death toll now at 33. investigators expect to find more victims. >> a criminal probe has now been launched in what is the deadliest fire ever in that city. there are questions about whether it could have been prevented. lauren lyster joins us from oakland. lauren, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, mara and ryan. yeah, just about halfway down the block behind me, in the warehouse, crews are pushing forward with the search

the district attorney launching a criminal investigation into this tragedy. this morning, firefighters pushing forward in the round-the-clock search for the missing. as the staggering number of people killed in this massive friday night warehouse fire keeps rising, survivors recounting the horror of that inferno. >> everyone is turning to us and saying, you should have done this. you should have done that. don't you think we feel that? don't you think we feel how many people died in our home? >> reporter: that woman saying she was part of the well-known building called the ghost ship. filled that night for a concert. people weren't supposed to be living here. it only has permits for a warehouse. code violations show a history of complaints. okayland's mayor promising to find out if this worst fire in the city's history was preventable. >> i right now have a team of city employees combing through every public record that we have of this building. >> reporter: officials say most

and where pictures from before the fire show a maze of makeshift art studios. >> i think we were surprised at first to find that many bodies where we found them. >> reporter: a tragedy and some still filled with anxiety as loved ones wait for news on the missing. >> i have prepared myself for the worst. >> reporter: this mother's only son at that party with his fiance. shooting this video time-stamped about an hour before the flames erupted. his mom speaking to a friend who dark, he couldn't see. he had to put his hands against the wall to get out. >> reporter: authorities so far identifying at least eight of the victims. most in their 20s and 30s. one as young as 17. and the coroner's office telling loved ones of potential victims to save dna samples for held inspect the grim task of naming the the deceased.
