>> emergency crews are on the scene of the fire on milwaukee's south side. andy? reporter: it is an active scene here at clement and idaho here in the bay view area. we are stepping aside so you can see the firefighters working hard. everything is a challenge in the colder temperatures. the fire started on the second level and you are seeing the flash lights through the window roof. we have seen the flames kicking back up here. this was called in around 4:30. a number of agencies responding. the challenge is the proximity of the homes nearby and the favorites are working hard to make sure this fire stays out. for now live in the bay view area "wisn 12 news this

now to weatherwatch 12. >> yes, we are wondering what the day holds. let's start with the forecast. meteorologist sally severson is in the weather center. sally: deepest of the cold is diving in tonight. the early morning temperatures showing up in the teens inland. 19 at beaver dam. we are looking at the temperatures in the 20s along the lake. for the most part in the 20s for much of the becoming breezy and seeing a few gusts out of the west. the deepest of the cold is coming in tonight and the flurries with a cold front. ben, we take a look at highs that are in the low teens, lows single digits for tomorrow night. >> thank you, sal. >> new from overnight, a wrong-way driver allegedly hits a snow plow on the interstate. it happened around 2:00 this morning on eastbound i-43 just east of 60th street in greenfield.

was taken to the hospital. it appears that the plow was part of milwaukee county's cleanup operation. adrienne: the snow caused some other crashes over the weekend. a salt truck in milwaukee slammed into a pole yesterday. dpw says another car ran a red light at 20th and highland. making a salt truck driver hit a pole. no one was hurt. >> now to a lye look live look at the roads. freeways a far. the side streets and some of the rain roads through milwaukee, wauwatosa in a little worse shape. we look at the drive times, everything is in the green. the clean up from the snowstorm could be lasting days. tim elliott is on the east side and following the latest conditions. tim, what are you seeing?

streets is continuing here in milwaukee on the southeast side. this is oakland avenue. you are seeing it is wet this morning. kind of slushy too. it is looking okay. if you come here, issues right here. lots of slush on the road. plenty of snow too. parking the cars in right there. the side streets are done later the crews always start with the main roads. at one point yesterday t dpw has 300 pieces of equipment on the job. some of the uses out all night. it could take 24 hours to plow all of the streets. plan on a little extra time this

sidewalks here. this is oakland avenue. this apartment manager on point yesterday. very clear sidewalks. good job apartment manager. if you have snow in front of your home, shovel your sidewalk so the walk is easier. >> big thanks to the apartment managers and the dpw milwaukee's four inch parking rule is in effect. you have to park on the odd or the even side of the street depending on the date and pay close attention to the parking signs along the street. for the sidewalks, you have 24 hours to clear them after the snow stops.

crews geared up in special equipment to get the goose and took the bird to a local wildlife center. ben: wisn 12 news time is 5:35. looking ahead now, today is the deadline for wisconsin's recount. it must be finished by 8:00 p.m. the wisconsin elections commission expects to finish on time. on friday, the last update, the recount was 95 percent complete. more than 2.8 million votes have been recounted. the federal deadline is tomorrow. adrienne: later today, a waukesha teenager will be in court as part of the high-profile slenderman case. morgan geyser and anissa weier are accused of stabbing their friend and nearly killing her. geyser will be in court today for a hearing. both girls pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease. the trials could begin next summer. ben: this morning, the green bay packers are celebrating a

bitter cold headed our way, especially for tonight, tuesday, tuesday night and wednesday. no doubt about a white christmas. the snow in place is staying through the holiday and we look at the snow chances again at the end of the week. back to you. >> sal, thank you. ben: a scary situation at the detroit airport when a plane skidded off the runway. adrienne: it happened yesterday. no one was hurt. the delta flight landed then slid off the runway where it got stuck in snow and mud. rescue crews escorted dozens of passengers off the plane. passengers say the evacuation was calm and orderly although some people did miss their connecting flights. the plane was stuck for hours. >> right now, parts of california are dealing with some serious flooding. ben: it's because of heavy rain and a blizzard. the sierra nevadas had another big blizzard and now that some of it has melted, the water is coming down the mountains into towns and cities.

just left a match. a kurdish militant group claims responsibility for the attacks. ben: new this morning, isis has gained back ground and taken a historical syrian city. palmyra is a unesco world heritage site in central syria. isis had taken the city but been forced out by syrian troops. now, isis has regained control of several parts of the city. last year when isis held palmyra, the terror group blew up historic temples and monuments. adrienne: in indonesia, police say they prevented a terror attack. three people are in custody for the plot. police say they were targeting a palace. all three suspects are members of a group that has ties to isis. police found a bomb during the arrests and safely detonated it. ben: in cairo, egypt, 25 people are dead after someone bombed an orthodox christian church. officials say that person threw the bomb over a wall and into the complex. so far, no one is claiming responsibility for the attack.

eyeing the storm system at the end of the week. >> thank you, sally. adrienne: a police chase ends with a surprise in alabama. a man there staged the chase and an arrest all to surprise his girlfriend. police were in on it. they pulled over the man and pretended to arrest him. his girlfriend arrived and tried to find out what was going on. the officers even pulled out tasers but they weren't loaded. that's when he got down on one knee and proposed. >> that was a perfect set up to do something like that and bringing everyone together. >> probably not for everyone. glad she liked it. >> that is all that matters. >> a scary situation turned into a happy one. once she got over the shock, the woman said yes. >> she walked away for a minute. the officer brought her back. >> congratulations. ben: a deputy in florida used his training to save a baby's life. the infant, named corey, and his mother were at an office last month when the baby became
