in anderson county, part of this road has completely washed away. this is the third issue for that same road in just three months. the first time--was a sinkhole in late october. the anderson county roads and bridges manager says the problems have kept coming because of all the rain. repairs are expected to cost hundreds of thousand off dollars, which if fema approves, would have to be completed within 18 months. 43 people have died from weather related causes over the past week. at least 24 of those fatalities can be attributed to a single, mammoth system that has wreaked havoc across the u-s. forecasters say mother nature isn't done -- millions are still facing the storm's various threats. kim hutcherson reports the severe weather system that has already caused tremendous damage bringing blizzard conditions to the west and more flooding to the middle and plains states monday. in missouri, rain continued, sending already swollen rivers surging over their

banks. "i am worried. i don't know what to do. oklahoma residents forced to cope with both flood and blizzard warnings. one man had to to walk to safety through freezing water. "i gather my things and i make the trek for about half a mile or so in water that's about waist-high." the cold temperatures and high water were a bad combination. "stood in that water for about three hours waiting for them to get here the list of weather- related fatalities is likely to grow longer. two men have been pulled from water in georgia -- the widow of one clearly grieving. councilman moe baddourah will also be sworn in. he ran unopposed in november's general election. the ceremony is today at 3:30 at columbia city hall. a columbia man is out of the hospital after troopers say a hit and run driver wrecked him and sped off. he was run off the road on i-77 northbound near percival road saturday night. this morning he's still dealing with a lot of pain and hoping for justice. news 10's chad mills has more. for now, each step is tough for kevin bessellieu, but the 31-year-old columbia man is just glad to be alive. "it's a miracle. the fact that i'm still here and still alive and breathing it shows that there is a god and there is someone watching over me." bessellieu was pulled from this mangled car this past saturday night. "i still have a couple bruises. i have a couple broken ribs, a slight concussion, and a slightly collapsed lung. i can barely walk as it is. i need

a walker to get around in this point in time." before a violent crash, he was driving north on i-77 near percival road with a trunk full of gifts for his kids. "something told me to look in my rear view mirror, and i see this car dipping in and out of traffic, but i pay it no attention, so i continue driving. as i approach i-20 to augusta, i glance against into my rear view mirror, and next thing i know, i see this car. he came into my lane, and he was right next to me -- right behind me on my butt -- and then, it hit me." bessellieu doesn't remember much after that. "i remember the guy hitting me in the back. i remember the car swerving. i saw the trees flash through my eyes. / that was it. then, i woke up, and i remember a firefighter talking to me." troopers say bessellieu is the victim of a hit and run. they say an unknown pickup truck or suv hit his mitsubishi and sent it off the

her car was later found at a home on old state road -- where witnesses say she had been picked up by a truck driver. an eastover man is charged with murder after investigators say he shot and killed his neighbor after an argument over a fence. authorities say 49-year old mark volstromer shot and killed keith pruitt junior at his home on antioch amez church road, sunday. officials say pruitt got into an argument with volstromer's wife about the fence line dividing their properties. when pruitt got out of his truck, investigators say volstromer shot him. deputies continue to investigate the case. a quadriplegic man in columbia has some help getting around again after he says someone stole his handicapped accessible van from his home on christmas eve. robert mccurdy says the stolen van was tailored specifically to transport someone in a wheelchair. since last week -- he says he's been stuck in his home. sunday, a wheelchair accessible van company donated a vehicle for him to use

for the next few days "i mean who would do that, a handicap van, that's low, very low. but now to know that their are good people, we had offers from several people offering their personal vehicles to try and help us and now we have one that we can use." the mccurdys will be able to use the donated van until thursday. after that they say they'll have to look into buying another one if theirs isn't recovered. in the meantime, columbia police are investigating. be on the lookout for a 2012 honda odyssey van with south carolina handicap plates w-126. in the lowcountry, more than 100 rescued animals are being treated the charleston animal society. they were taken from a north charleston home sunday, in one of the largest rescues in charleston county. deputies say north charleston police were responding to a burglary at a

"unfortunately that's the business we're in and do see people on their worse day." captain jack sides trains paramedics.. he's in charge of explaining how txa can help patients with severe trauma. "this would be a person we have a high suspicion had a traumatic brain injury.

they've have an altered mentation. they won't be with it. they maybe semi conscious or unconscious." doctor gary white is trauma director at texas health presbyterian in plano where txa is already used to treat patients. q: "can it possibly save a life?" a: "oh yeah, we've had that here. we've already seen it here." according to white.. txa stops excessive bleeding. in cases of trauma, the drug stabilizes a clot. and it has little or no side effects. "this drug hopefully will allow us to get ahead of the game as far as bleeding in the brain." so far, it's only a clinical trial. the drug is on board all of plano's ems trucks... in cases where it's needed most chris jose reporting. paramedics have used t-x-a on 8 patients with severe head injuries since october. for patients to qualify, they must have a realistic chance of survival, cannot be pregnant, and must be at least 18 years old. if you think you're having a

from a new orleans based developer who wanted to turn the building into a hotel. that plan fell through in part due to problems passing tax credit legislation. now we're told a different company -- possibly based in virginia, has babcock under contract for new apartments. because of the size, because of the nature of the work that needs to be done--there's a considerable amount of asbestos and the cost to bring that building to a position where it can be you know, repurposed and reutilized, it is a significant amount. and so there needs to be something built in which is why we passed historic tax credits both for commercial and private residential efforts. and this has also been passed to make sure that we don't lose these buildings. the name of the company proposing the apartments has not been revealed. the head of the new orleans law firm that abandoned the hotel

officials say pruitt got into an argument with volstromer's wife about the fence line dividing their properties when the pruitt got out of the truck. investigators say that's when volstromer shot him in the upper body. richland county deputies are continuing to investigate. an orangeburg county man is charged with murder, after a woman missing since christmas turned up dead. monday, orangeburg county deputies arrested harold pratt. the sheriff's department believes pratt shot and killed 38-year-old loretta bunch last week. she was found in a holly hill waterway yesterday. her car was later found at a home on old state road--where witnesses say she had been picked up by a truck driver. the orangeburg county sheriff's department is investigating the case. highway patrol troopers are trying to track down the hit and run driver behind an accident over the weekend. it happened near the percival road exit on i-77 north saturday night.

investigate. an orangeburg county man is charged with murder, after a woman missing since christmas turned up dead. monday, orangeburg county deputies arrested harold pratt. the sheriff's department believes pratt shot and killed 38-year-old loretta bunch last week. she was found in a holly hill waterway yesterday. her car was later found at a home on old state road--where witnesses say she had been picked up by a truck driver. department is investigating the case. a columbia man is out of the hospital after troopers say a hit and run driver wrecked him and sped off. he was run off the road on i-77 northbound near percival road saturday night. highway patrol is still investigating the hit and run. troopers say a pickup truck made an improper lane change and hit the victim's car -- sending it off the road and into some trees. meanwhile, the victim wants to get the story out there so someone -- somewhere -- might come forward with some answers.

"i still have a couple bruises. i have a couple broken ribs, a slight concussion, and a slightly collapsed lung. i can barely walk as it is. i need a walker to get around in this point in time." the south carolina highway patrol hasn't released a possible description of the suspect's vehicle. however, the victim says it was either a truck or an suv, and it might have been a green toyota 1- 888-crime-sc. a quadriplegic man in columbia has some help getting around again after he says someone stole his handicapped accessible van from his home on christmas eve. robert mccurdy says the stolen van was tailored specifically to transport someone in a wheelchair. since last week -- he says he's been stuck in his home. sunday, a wheelchair accessible van company donated a vehicle for him to use for the next few days "i mean who would do that, a handicap van, that's low, very low.

but now to know that their are good people, we had offers from several people offering their personal vehicles to try and help us and now we have one that we can use." the mccurdys will be able to use the donated van until thursday. after that they say they'll have to look into buying another one if theirs isn't recovered. in the meantime, columbia police are investigating. be on the lookout for a 2012 honda odyssey van with south carolina handicap plates w-126. charlotte police aren't saying much about the christmas eve mall shooting where an officer shot the reported gunman dead. police have confirmed the shooting stemmed from an altercation between two groups of people, but officers have not said if it was gang-related. police say an off-duty officer shot and killed daquan westbrook after westbrook fired off shots... then pointed his gun at the officer. shoppers had to run for cover. police told our charlotte sister station they do not

the students had to be rescued. we're told no one was hurt -- and the team went on to play the game. it was also a scary scene in wisconsin where a gas station canopy collapsed trapping two cars beneath it. one car was destroyed, a second vehicle was damaged, but luckily no one was hurt. rescue crew believe the canopy collapsed under the weight of snow and ice that fell from the winter storm. oddly enough, fire officials say another gas station canopy collapsed in the same area yesterday. more than 28-hundred flights in u.s. have been canceled and about 48- hundred delayed due to the large storm system moving through the midwest. flight-tracking service flightaware showed that of the cancellations, more than 1,600 were at chicago's two main airports. a typical day sees about 150 cancelations and 4,000 delays around the country. meteorologist von gaskin is monitoring this storm system that's now spreading more heavy rain over the midlands

morning from heavy rain that continues to fall around the midlands at this hour. our michal higdon is live along the congaree river with more on the potential for rising water levels. this flood advisory was issued by the national weather service and is in effect until late tonight for lexington and richland counties. you can see how high the river is right now. at 8pm on monday -- the river level was at 14.8 feet. the flood stage is 19 feet.... the national weather service believes the river will fluctuate between about 10 and 15 feet through friday... weather officials say rainfall during the past few days combined withtheservoir operations h h produced elevated flows along the congarar river.

now it's'sot just the river in jeopardy -- weather officials say roads in low lying water for a period of time today. the city is shutting off water lines for a relocation project near leaphart and mineral springs road starting at 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. this will impact more than two dozen blocks in and around the leaphart road area. once water is restored the area will then be under a boil water advisory. residents should boil water for at least a full minute before using it. three columbia city councilmen will be sworn in today --including two new faces. howard duvall and ed mcdowell each won runoff elections in november. mcdowell will now represent district two. duvall is the new at-large councilman. councilman moe baddourah will also be sworn in. he ran unopposed in november's general election. the ceremony is at 3:30 at columbia city hall.
