concerns over high water levels at lake murray continue to keep neighbors downstream on edge tonight. officials say the spill gate which was opened to relieve a swell of water will stay open overnight. our chad mills is in the pine glen neighborhood tonight with the latest update. it has turned into a block party out here in pine glen, but not in a good way. a lot of the neighbors hear of all flocked at this corner near the intersection of cairnbook drive and derbyshire lane. both lexington county sheriffs department and irmo fire department are out here monitoring things. of course, this flooding is caused by the release of water from lake murray dam into the lower saluda

right now, one still gate is open, since the lake level is so high. water has surrounded several homes. now, a few of them were abandoned after the historic october flood, but one of them had been renovated since then. for a while, neighbors used sticks to monitor how quickly water was rising up the gutter on cairnbrook. hey lexington county deponie on scene told these neighbors that sce&g had planned to meet at 6:45 to reassess -- and to determine if the spillgate should be closed. still dozens of roads across the state remain closed tonight because of flooding. the south carolina department of transportation reports 43 roads are closed in 21 counties--including fairfield, kershaw, lexington, richland, saluda, and sumter. maintenance crews are continuing to watch roads and bridges in the affected areas and officials say repairs will begin once the weather allows them to. tomorrow, a portion of west columbia will have their water shut off for about 11 hours. the city is shutting off water lines starting at 9 a-m for a relocation project near leaphart and mineral springs road. it will impact more than two dozen blocks in and around the

officials say the water will be turned back on at 8 tomorrow evening. once water is restored people in the area will need to boil water for at least one full minute before using it. the new year brings new tax breaks in south carolina. under laws passed in the 2015 legislative session and in effect as of today, aircraft parts and supplies are now sales tax exempt. so are some construction supplies and children's clothing. bubuthose supplies and clothing are only tax exempt if they're being purchased by families considered "in need." also officially going on the books today is a law requiring the use of electronic death certificates for south carolina doctoto and funeral homomdirectors. lawmakers passed this bill during the 2015 legislative session too. it requires doctors to file an electronic death ceritficiate within five days of declaring someone dead. the law imposes penalties for

don't make that deadline- and also penalizes funeral home directors who go through with cremation before the paperwork is submitted. republican presidential candidate marco rubio is kicking off the new year with campaign stops in south carolina. tomorrow rubio will be at a meet and greet at hudson's smokehouse in lexington. that will be at 4. he's also makiki stops in easley and hilton head earlier in the day. the clemson tigers come home as champions. after a win over oklahoma last night in the orange bowl--clemson is 14 and 0 and headed to play for the national championship. the tigers landed at greenville spartanburg international airport this afternoon and loaded the buses back to clemson. the were greeted by a packed crowd of excited tiger fans at death valley. they are just one game from winning the second national title in clemson's history. before the tigers returned home, they took time to reflect on there huge victory over the sooners. wis' joe gorchow caught up with coach dabo

hundreds of people hit the beachand the waves-- for the 2016 polar bear plunge. the event proceeds support special olympics south carolina athletes. organizers say over the years dunleavy's polar bear plunge has raised more than 500 thousand dollars and up where temperatures are much colder in chicago some brave souls plunged into the waters of lake michigan--at an annual polar plunge there. most managed to tough it out for just a few seconds before scrambling back to shore. the plunge raises money to find homes for greyhound dogs across the midwest. the cooler weather is a welcome change after weeks of bad business for ski resorts in north carolina. now a least one of thth hopes to turn things around. sarah-blake morgan has more from sugar
