some breaking news overnight, all lanes of i-26 west bound are reopen near the 321 interchange following a wreck that temporarily shut down all west bound lanes -- and left several closed for more than an hour. sc dot first reported the wreck just before 5 this alex george sent us this photo on facebook. right now, we're still waiting to learn more about what happened and the conditions of hear more. a new year's eve celebration turned deadly for one gaffney man. the cherokee county coroner says tezlar ross was killed while playing with a gun at his house. according to witnesses ross and three others were in his bedroom looking at a .380 hand gun about 6:30 p.m. thursday. ross removed the clip from the gun, which he then placed to his head and it then discharged. an autopsy is expected to be

dam into the lower saluda river...is causing flooding at neighborhoods downstream. you can see...water has surrounded several homes...some of the same homes affected by the historic flooding in october. also in lexington county, corley mill road is closed. scdot posted on twitter that crews are monitoring it now... and will reopen the road as soon possible. if you were impacted by the historic floods in october -- you're running out of time to apply for federal assistance through fema. you now have until this monday, january 4th. this after the deadline was extended from january 3rd... which falls on a sunday. after monday, you will not be eligible for federal financial assistance. you can apply at disaster or call the fema hotline at 1-800-621-fema. at least 5-hundred people living in southern llinois are being urged to move to

mississippi river topped a levee protecting several towns. the river is expected to rise another foot before it crests on sunday, making the situation even worse. an emergency evacuation is underway for alexander county, and a voluntary evacuation is underway in neighboring east cape girardeau where a levee is holding steady. several roads are still closed by the record setting winter flooding. the flooding is now blamed for at least 20 deaths. clemson university is fighting back against a lawsuit in the 2014 death of a student. the school has filed documents answering allegations made by the parents of tucker hipps - including that he was forced to walk along a narrow railing of a bridge over lake hartwell. his body was found below the bridge. university officials say they have no knowledge that sigma phi epsilon had a tradition of forcing pledges to jump off the bridge. they are seeking dismissal of

today, a portion of west columbia will have their water shut off for about 11 hours. the city is shutting off water lines starting now for a relocation project near leaphart and mineral springs road. it will impact more than two dozen blocks in and around the leaphart road area. officials say the water will be turned back on at 8 tonight. once water is restored people in the area will need to boil water for at least one full minute before using it. presidential candidates are retooling their strategies in the new year. we'll have more from the campaign trail, coming up next. break 1 2015 marked a significant rise in traffic deaths in south carolina.

and they'll kick off the new year with bills left over from 2015. will whitson takes a look at what's on the table. the biggest bill waiting on a vote in the state house in january is the house of representative's attempt at road funding.. the bill was introduced at the beginning of the 2015 session, but went through amendment after amendment before passing the house and heading to the senate... where it was amended again... and not voted on.

senate- meaning it gets top priority when lawmakers return. but even if it gets a passing vote in the senate- it would have to go back to the house for final approval. the roads bill has bounced back and forth in political ping pong- but several lawmakers say it's time to vote. york "i think now, south carolina will come together. many of those who were so opposed to a road or infrastructure bill, if you watch thosremarks in the media, those remarks have been tempered." while a bill wasn't proposed in 2015- the south carolina supreme court did charge lalaakers with fixing rural school funding through the abbeville school district lawsuit. lawmakers have been meeting regularly regarding the issue- and will hold another meeting next week. "the big issue will be abbeville. it will be an accountability system we will hold all schools and districts accountable to." advocates for ethics reform also say they haven't given up hope on a new reform bill- but the massive ethics bill proposed last year has not been revived. ww wis news 10 . the legislative session for 2016

the new year brings new tax breaks in south carolina. under laws passed in the 2015 legislative session and in effect as of yesterday, aircraft parts and supplies are now sales tax exempt. so are some construction supplies and children's clothing. but those supplies and clothing are only tax exempt if they're being purchased by families considered "in need." also officially going on the books is a law requiring the use of electronic death certificates for south carolina doctors and funeral home directors. lawmakers passed this bill during the 2015 legislative session. it requires doctors to file an electronic death certificate within five days of declaring someone dead. the law imposes penalties for doctors who don't make that deadline- and also penalizes funeral home the arrival of 2016 means we are officially in an

some candidates are switching up their strategies -- to attract more voters. others seemingly have new campaigns in the new year. mary moloney explains. at the rose bowl parade friday -- skskriters weren't focused on football. instead set sights on republican presidential frontrunner -- donald trump. the message -- "america is great. trump is disgusting," insults -- hasn't been shy on the trail or on twitter writing... "p"pple ask, "why do you tweet and re-tweet to millions about @jebbush when he is so low in the polls?" because of his big $ hit ads on me!" those ads irritate trump presidential candidate : "it bothers me when i see a guy spending, you know $60 million on ads against me, a lot of it, right?" trump vowing to start spending about $2 million a week to ensure victory. presidential candidate : "i'm going to start spending. i don't want to take any chances." for his part -- jeb bush canceled pricey ad buys -- moved staff to early voting states -- and insisted trump will fall.

republican presidential candidate marco rubio is kicking off the new year with campaign stops in south carolina. this afternoon rubio will be at a meet and greet at hudson's smokehouse in lexington. that will be at 4. he will also make stops in easley and hilton head today. a new partnership to rescue sumter's struggling hospital is now official. the tuomey healthcare system finalized its deal to merge into palmetto health yesterday. the two systems have been in negotiations since last february. tuomey operates sumter's only hospital but it has been struggling with a drop in patients, high debts and a multimillion dollar kickback scandal. the sumter hospital system will now be called palmetto health toumey. break 3 chef jeff: i'm going to take a little bit of the scallions hehe. i'm going to make a beautiful dressing. add a little bit of light

it started when a woman called 911 crying, then hung up just before 3 this morning. when the first officer arrived and tried to open an outside door, police say wold started shooting at the officer. when backup arrived, they were reportedly shot at as well. a few hours later, a negotiator got wold to come out of f e apartment. right now a manhunt underway in israel...after a shooting killed two people and at injured at least four others. israeli police say the gunman opened fire on a busy street yesterday afternoon. the incident was caught on video from a shop nearby. officials say they haven't determined a motive for the shooting people living in the area are paying their respects this morning. people gathered outside the bar to light candles in tribute to the victims. the suspect's family says he was "traumatized" after his cousin was killed by police in 2006. the suspect also served time in israeli prison after

the motive for the shooting spree was not immediately clear. protesters in cleveland are upset by a decision not to indict police officers in the fatal shooting of 12- year-old tamir rice they say they will continue their call for the down. protestors gathered at the home of timothy mcginty just yesterday with signs, chanting 'mcginty has got to go." police officers accompanied the marchers and stood in front of the prosecutor's house during the protest. tamir rice is the 12 year old who shot and killed in november of 2014 by police who thought he was holding a real gun. he was in fact holding a pellet t gun. one summer night this year, south carolina was broken at the news of a shooting at mother emanuel ame church in charleston. nine lives were taken that night as they all were gathered for a bible study in the basement of the

"sharonda had a spirit that would reach the world. she was just that special and everybody who knew her knew it." 45-year-old sharonda coleman-singleton was a minister and high school track coach. she was a mother of three and an alumna of south carolina state university. ethel lance served the church as a custodian, and was a longtime member of mother emanuel. "she was always there. she was always there. she was a soldier." the 70-year-old was a mother and grandmother, and was retired after dedicating 34 years to the performing arts. "tywanza was always a bubbly and happy person. his aunt, she would do anything for anybody at anytime." the youngest victim, 26- year-old tywanza sanders was a recent graduate from allen university. witnesses say he died that night trying to protect his

jackson was 87-years-old and a longtime member of mother emanuel. cynthia hurd was a well known librarian who, after working for 31-years in charleston county, was looking forward to retirement. her legacy is one that is special to congressman jim clyburn. "this was her church. i''m an ame. my wife was librarian, and she was my daughter''s best friend." hurd was the sister of former north carolina state senator malcolm graham. "sometimes you don''t know when you're entertaining angels but we were." "she had a beautiful spirit." "a beautiful spirit." "a beautiful spirit." a mother...a minister...and a woman of god. reverend depayne- middleton doctor was a minister at emanuel ame. the 49-year-old was a former admissions coordinator at southern wesleyan university''s charleston learning center... and... the mother

"she was a sweet, loving woman." myra thompson, was a teacher in the charleston county school district. the 59-year-old had a husband and two children. she received her license to preach the same day of the massacre and was leading the bible study that night. "rev. simmons was dedicated to the lord, but he was really dedicated to his family." the final member of the emanuel nine to be laid to rest was reverend daniel simmons, sr. simmons retired from the ministry in 2013, butcontinued to serve on staff at mother emanuel. he is buried at fort jackson national cemetery. in columbia, meaghan norman, wis news 10. dylann roof's case was continued until january. joey meek - a friend of dylann roof's - faces a federal charge for not telling

tax returns. the 2016 tax filing season will open on january 19th. that's the day the irs will start processing returns filed electronically and on paper. the i-r-s also announced the deadline to submit 2015 tax returns -- and request extensions -- is being pushed back. the new deadline will be april 18th. that's due to emancipation day falling on the traditional april 15th deadline. and anyone expecting a refund won't have to wait too long to get one. the agency says it anticipates issuing more than nine out of 10 refunds in fewer than 21 days. the ball may have dropped, but don't drop the ball on your student loan applications. if you plan to attend college in 20-16, the first thing you should do this year is fill out your "fafsa" form. and the sooner you do, the better. you could miss out on scholarships or grant money if you wait. yesterday was the first day to apply.

just raised enough money to buy workout equipment for a military base in iraq. they started pitching in when they learned one of their instructors, who just deployed to the combat zone, can't do the crossfit workouts that keep him in shape. ted land reports. the co-owner of south seattle crossfit deployed to iraq about a month ago, and discovered the base he's stationed at, doesn't have all that much gym uipment... certainly not the right gear for a proper crossfit routine. so chris garceau's clients, co-workers, friends, and family back in the us pitched in enough money to order a set of weights, and other crossfit equipment, which they're country, but to the community here at south seattle crossfit break from the stresses of combat, not only for for chris, but others in his unit.
