"she was a sweet, loving woman." myra thompson, was a teacher in the charleston county school district. the 59-year-old had a husband and two children. she received her license to preach the same day of the massacre and was leading the bible study that night. simmons was dedicated to the lord, but he was really dedicated to his family." the final member of the emanuel nine to be laid to rest was reverend daniel simmons, sr. simmons retired from the ministry in 2013, butcontinued to serve on staff at mother emanuel. he is buried at fort jackson national
