crime-sc. deputies are investigating an armed robbery that happened last night on south hillock court in columbia. deputies say a suspect walked up to a male victim, pointed a gun at his head and demanded the victim's iphone. the suspect fled the scene, hitting a parked nissan altima in the process. the suspect's mother later returned to the scene with the victim's iphone. criminal charges are pending. a group of militia members have occupied a federal building at the malheur national wildlife refuge in oregon. the small group says they're protesting for ranchers' rights. they insist the protest is peaceful, and they are quote "not a threat to anybody." the occupation came after a peaceful march and a rally in nearby burns, oregon earlier saturday. militia members were showing support for dwight hammond and steven hammond -two ranchers who are set to report to a california prison.

sentences the two had already served for arson were not long enough under federal law. one person is dead after a two-vehicle crash in kershaw county last night. highway patrol says the driver of a chevrolet was traveling north on smyrna road, crossed over the center line, striking a toyota pickup that was in the southbound lane. the chevrolet driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed. the driver and passenger in the toyota pickup were taken to palmetto health richland with non-life threatening injuries. the accident remains under investigation. residents in west columbia are still without water this morning after a disconnection yesterday. water was turned off yesterday due to a relocation project for more than two dozen blocks in and around the leaphart road area. the city originally said the water would be back on by 8 last night. crews were working until 3 this morning to repair the water and hope to have it back on soon. once the water is restored, residents are

minute before using. south carolina department of transportation was able to open seven closed roads yesterday. currently, the state has 39 closed roads in 19 counties because of flooding. this includes only one primary route closure - which is south carolina highway 193 in saluda county. crews will continue to make repairs to damaged roads as weather conditions allow. in addition, scdot is also monitoring water levels and bridge conditions from the water release at the lake murray dam. you can expect traffic congestion and delays if you're traveling on trenholm road. all three northbound lanes of trenholm road between coker street and forest drive are closed for a water main repair. drivers should use a detour at coker street. use caution if you're headed that way. time is ticking for victims of the october floods to apply for fema assistance -- and

was killed yesterday, one day after she took office. an investigation is underway in temixco into the killing of mayor gisela mota in her home, reportedly by nine armed gunmen. authorities said police arrested two alleged attackers and killed two others. mota had served in mexico's congress and promised to end corruption. protesters in iran broke into the saudi embassy in tehran early this morning to protest the execution of a prominent shiite cleric by saudi arabia. the protesters set fires and threw papers from the roof of the embassy. the shiite cleric was one of 47 prisoners convicted of terrorism charges executed by saudi arabia yesterday. hong kong activists today protested over the disappearance of five staff members at a publishing firm that specializes in books critical of the chinese government. dozens of protesters marched through the

missing publishers - all employees of the publishing company "mighty current." the most recent publisher disappeared wednesday. four others went missing about two months ago. there's been no official confirmation on the status of the five missing people, but a hong kong lawmaker said it appears their disappearances are linked to the company's books. an expressway in northern china was shut down after a truck carrying nearly 100 pigs overturned. all of the animals survived, but police had to round them up and load them into another truck. police say wet road conditions and low visibility may have played a role in the accident. the truck driver was rushed to the hospital. here's something you don't see everyday -- a lion was spotted floating in the arabian sea off india's western coast yesterday. local fishermen spotted the lion sitting on the edge of a rock before it dove into the sea. forest officials were called in to rescue the

stepped down in october after ten and a half seasons on the carolina sideline. steve spurrier told wis he knew his time was up as the coach. sports director rick henry has a look back at this year's number four story. :01 :21 :40 on october 13th, the head ball coach, steve spurrier officially announced his resignation as coach of the gamecocks. spurrier had led usc since november of 2004. his last game was a 45 to 24 loss to lsu. the day after that disappointing showing, spurrier knew it was time for him to step aside. "back in 2004, i think i was probably the best coach for this job 11 years ago, but i'm not today, i'm not today. and that's the cycle of coaching. sometimes you run your course,

controversy for many years in south carolina - some saw it as a sign of slavery and to three story. :01 :27 :35 :50 1:28 an historic call in south carolina. haley: "it's time to remove the flag from the state house grounds." gov. nikki haley signed a bill to remove the battle flag from the state house grounds after the fatal shootings at mother emanuel ame church in charleston that took nine lives, including that of senator clementa pinckney - a man who tried many times to have the flag taken down. mclawhorn: "that flag has been a symbol that has terrorized people over the years." but to others - it represents heritage. jamie graham: "we've never seen the flag as a flag of hatred whatsoever... only a flag of heritage." it was up to an honor guard from the state highway patrol to remove the battle flag. the seven officers--black and

marching from the right side of the state house as you see it from gervais street to the iron fence surrounding the flag pole. and then, one patrol officer using a crank inserted in the pole to bring down the flag in less than 30 seconds as many in the crowd of onlookers cheered. those officers then rolled up the battle flag and marched it to the state house steps to turn it over for transport to the confederate relic room contained within the state museum building. soon after, the flag's pole and the fencing around it were also removed. "he was in the pulpit b b 13, pastored by 18, public service by 23." clementa pickney was 41-years-old. "sharonda had a spirit that would reach the world. she was just that special and everybody who knew her knew it." 45-year-old sharonda coleman-singleton was a minister and high school track coach. she was a mother of three and an alumna of south carolina state university. ethel lance served the church as a custodian, and was a longtime member of mother emanuel. "she was always there. she was always there. she was a soldier." the 70-year-old was a mother and grandmother, and was retired after dedicating 34 years to the performing arts.

"this was her church. i''m an ame. my wife was librarian, and she was my daughter''s best friend." hurd was the sister of former north carolina state senator malcolm graham. "sometimes you don''t know when you're entertaining angels but we were." "she had a

"a beautiful spirit." a mother...a minister...and a woman of god. reverend depayne- middleton doctor was a minister at emanuel ame. the 49-year-old was a former admissions coordinator at southern wesleyan university''s charleston learning center... and... the mother of four daughters. "she was a sweet, loving woman." myra thompson, was a teacher in the charleston county school district. the 59-year-old had a husband and two children. she received her license to preach the same day of the massacre and was leading the bible study that night. simmons was dedicated to the lord, but he was really dedicated to his family." the final member of the emanuel nine to be laid to rest was reverend daniel simmons, sr. simmons retired from the ministry in 2013, butcontinued to serve on staff at mother emanuel. he is buried at fort jackson national

reportedly by nine armed gunmen. authorities said police arrested two alleged attackers and killed two others. mota had served in mexico's congress and promised to end corruption. hong kong activists today protested over the disappearance of five staff members at a publishing firm that specializes in books critical of the chinese government. dozens of protesters marched througugthe streets with photos of the missing publishers - all employees of the publishing company "mighty current." the most recent publisher disappeared wednesday. four others went missing about two months ago. there's been no official confirmation on the status of the five missing people, but a hong kong lawmamar said it appears their disappearances are linked to the company's books. in a bizarre spectacle yesterday, a lion was spotted floating in the arabian sea off india's western coast. local fishermen spotted the lion sitting on the edge of a rock and then diving into the sea.
