thousands of people are at finlay park in columbia this morning to make strides in the fight against breast cancer. they're all taking part in the annual walk for life race for life. that's where we find our mike desumma. he joins us now from the park with more. how's it looking out there mike? it's an annual tradition in columbia each year to make strides in the fight against breast cancer. the annual walk for life race for life is happening right now at finlay park. looking ahead to this weekend the annual walk to end breast cancer will be in downtown columbia after it had to be postponed because of the october floods. the palmetto health foundation's walk for life will now be tomorrow at finlay

the teams are getting set up in phoenix and ready to practice fans have also arrived early ready to take on the city. our michal higdon is live from the phoenix convention center with what has been set up for the influx of people. as part of the national championship experience they have turned the convention center into playoff fan central! you can see behind me all kinds of games and activities have been set up. yesterday was the first day fans were allowed in and they saw hundreds stopping by to take part. there were activities from kicking a football through a field goal to practicing your aim throwing the football into pockets. fans were also able to walk around and take it all in. lots of statues were set up for fans to take pictures with documenting their journey

national championship game along with their favorite team. and we were able to catch up with fans on both sides of the spectrum about how they're feeling before monday's big showdown. "i think it's going to be a we have two great teams alabama is better of course. but i think it's going to be a great game. they're very well matched." "alabama is going to win clemson is going to win." no matter which team you're pulling for officials anticipate tens of thousands of fans will come through fan central before it's all said and done tomorrow. one really cool thing being offered today though media day for both clemson and alabama will be taking place right at the field across the room. and fans

have a chance to listen in on it all. i'll have the details on that coming up in the next half hour. live from playoff fan central, michal higdon, wis news 10 ahead of monday's big game, officials in phoenix are boosting up security. tens of thousands of visitors are expected to flock to monday's sold-out game, as well as concerts and other events this weekend in downtown phoenix. phoenix officials say they're ramping up security with an increased presence on the ground. as the clemson tigers prepare to take on the crimson tide, governor haley says she is proud to be a tiger. "i can't say enough about how dabo handled the situation even going into the orange bowl.they are a fantastic family, it's a great team, a great group of guys who really stayed true to who they are. i am a tiger through and through." thirty four years after cheering for the clemson tigers in the national championship game -- a retired clemson cheerleader is hitting the

pat cassels and her husband tobin live here in columbia. pat was a sophomore and a cheerleader for the school when clemson won the 1981 national championship. both pat and tobin are avid football fans, although their house is divided -- tobin went to carolina and their daughter rustin, went to clemson. "i've cheered all my life, been a sports fan all my life, so m four years at clemson were just awesome. there's just no other way to describe it. it's just something about those hills." pat says she's watched a lot of clemson football-- and she sees a lot of similarities between this team and the 1981 championship squad. she's hoping the team's underdog status helps them pull out another big win. if you're a tigers fan and you want to remember going to the national championship, head to a post office. a commemorative envelope featuring the logos of alabama and clemson universities will soon be available. there are only 3,500 prints of the special collectible. each costs $9.95.

seneca, easley, anderson, the greenville main office and the columbia main office. they go on sale monday. the chick-fil-a in clemson is offering hungry fans in tigertown a unique way to cheer on their team on the morning of the national championship. the restaurant will sell chicken biscuits in the shape of tiger paws on monday. the biscuits will be available from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. clemson will face alabama in the cfp national championship game in arizona. kickoff is at 8:30 p.m. on monday. we will be covering the tigers throughout this weekend live in glendale. make sure to watch our special "chasing a championship" which runs right here on wis at 7:30 monday night.. in other news, one person is dead after a large fire ripped through a home in richland county. city fire crews responded to the 1100 block of quiet lane off of decker boulevard at around 5 p-m yesterday.

but quickly got the fire under control. they say the person was found in the back of the home --- where it looks like the fire started. "apparently the fire crews went in...as they began to extinguish the fire..and that's when the y found the body on this side." "going back to i think october of last year...i think this makes the third fatality that we've had..uhh i think this is actually the first fatality for this calander year." county offcials can't say at this point whether the victim is a male or a female. the county fire marshal's office is looking into what caused the fire. now to a developing story out of charleston. police are investigating a fire at the former home of michael slager. it happened at the 11- hundred block of yeamans hall road. officials say it was a small fire that left minor damage after a neighbor put it out.

prior to that fire, a suspicious person was seen leaving the area. slager no longer owns that home. the former north charleston police officer is charged with murder in the shooting death of walter scott. slager was released on bond earlier this week and is on house arrest. police in aiken need your help finding a man they say was involved in a shooting last month. deputies say glendale mclaurin junior and another person shot the victim while they were walking on crosland drive in aiken. the victim was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition. police say the second suspect has not yet been identified. if you have any information on where mclaurin junior may be call crimestoppers 888- crime-sc. donald trump draws a crowd and more protestors during his latest stop in the palmetto. we'll have highlights from last night's rally at winthrop university coming up next. most of your saturday will feature patchy drizzle and isolated light showers.

the excitement is building here in arizona now that both teams have arrived for the national championship game. top ranked clemson was the first to touchdown in phoenix. dabo swinneyis looking to lead the tigers to the program's 2nd title in program history. nick saban and the crimson tide are looking to roll to their 4th title in the past seven years. alabama took only about 15 minutes to load up the busses and leave the airport. clemson was on the ground for about 40 minutes before their busses rolled out. there was one big announcement today...the latest members of the college football hall of fame class. former clemson head coach, danny ford and former gamecock coach, jim carlen were both finalists for the class of 2016...unfortunately they didn't make it. one guy who did is former unlv and nfl quarterback randall cunningham. he was a dual threat quarterback like clemson's deshaun watson...a guy who can hurt you both running and passing. cummingham had some interesting comments about the tigers talented qb. sb cunningham it really does watching the game

u.s. senator tim scott and house speaker paul ryan will moderate the "kemp forum on expanding opportunity" at the columbia metropolitan convention center today. presidential candidates jeb bush, ben carson, chris christie, carly fiorina, john kasich, and marco rubio are scheduled to be there. meanwhile, several groups are looking to know where each of the candidates stand on stopping hunger. the vote to end hunger coalition includes leaders from harvest hope food bank and senior resources. yesterday at the state house, members of the group said they intend to pose policy questions to the candidates on eliminating hunger and poverty nationwide. "we need the government to set up policies that promote opportunities for everybody and also provide help..so the social safety net..investment in education.those things are just a crucial part." the coalition says it also

"chasing a championship" which runs right here on wis at 7:30 monday night.. the calhoun county sheriff's department is asking for your help to find three men who robbed a truck driver at gun point in st. matthews. officials say the the armed robbery happened at a wilco-hess gas station on burke road around 5 a.m. on january 6th. deputies have identified the man in the chicago bulls hat and jacket as derrick lamont james, jr. the other two have not been idenitifed. all three are tied to a similar armed robbery in orangeburg coutny and are believed to be driving a dark grey, foor door, 90's honda accord with clear coat and chipped paint. call crimestoppers at 1-888-crime-sc if you have any information that can help investigators. richland county authorities are trying to figure out what killed a man found outside a home in columbia. 34-year-old mario kelly was found dead friday morning on the front porch of a relative's house on

a deep cut in his head...but it's unclear how it happened. the richland county sheriff's department says new dna technology led to two arrests for a man's murder in northeast richland county. thanks to a hand print on a door handle--sheriff leon lott says investigators were able to track down two suspects believed to be behind the murder at the spinx gas station on lee road on december 13th. investigators say ryan alston and ibn gadson of eutawville were arrested and charged after testing through the richland county crime lab. both men face charges of murder, armed robbery, and kidnapping we're learning new details about the man accused of shooting his step-mother multiple times in orangeburg county. darrien weeks was denied bond in court yesterday. weeks is being charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of

signed on for health coverage during open enrollment. the department of health and human services says that 11 point 3 million people have enrolled in coverage through the health insurance marketplace that includes 8 point 6 million people in the 38 states that use the healthcare

website...and 2 point 7 million people in the remaining state-based marketplaces. enrollment ends on january 31st. if you want your coverage to start by february you must be enrolled by january 15th a court fight between chapin's former town clerk and the mayor has ended with a deal. adrienne thompson sued mayor skip wilson accusing him of for defaming her character. she has now settled that lawsuit for 150 thousand dollars thompson was town clerk for 13 years before wilson fired her. wilson also asked sled to investigate any wrongdoing in the town administration - sled closed their investigation in december with no charges. there is new movement to increase oversight of richland county's transportation penny program. it comes just days after the arrests of a richland county councilman and a former columbia city council member for failing to file tax returns. state revenue officials brought

against kelvin washington and brian newman. the charges are an outgrowth of a dor investigation into the use of penny tax revenues. lawyers for the two say those charges do--not--involve penny tax dollars. but the agenda for a special county council meeting tuesday now includes a motion to modify the penny tax program. among suggestions---giving members of an advisory committee authority to review spending. along with that, a new name--the citizens' transportation advisory and oversight committee. on a related note, state judicial officials today suspended newman's law license. the lexington one school board has narrowed its list for superintendent down to three finalists after a nationwide search. yesterday, the board has announced greg little, "lonnie" luce, and jeffrey salters as the three choices. the decision comes after the announcement by current superintendent karen woodard that she is
