governor nikki haley will give the g-o-p's answer to the president's speech. haley has not said specifically what she'll talk about in her speech. all she has said is that she will not specifically respond to obama's speech. instead the governor says she wants to give an address of her own. state lawmakers are back at the state house today with a long list of issues to tackle. our caroline patrickis has more on what will be top priority as legislators return for session today. that's right - state lawmakers will have a lot to tackle this year, and at the forefront will likely be our state's crumbling roads and bridges. the big question as they walk into work this morning -- does the state have enough money to pay for the road repairs without a gas tax increase? and how soon will representatives and senators come to an agreement? there was a big push in the last legislative session which died after the senate blocked a proposal to increase gas taxes to fix roads. now - it's an even bigger issue this year after the october floods took a major toll on much of the state's infrastructure.

workshop some lawmakers are optimistic though and expect a road repair plan to pass the senate by mid-february... others agree it will happen but could take longer. "i think that we will and i think there's going to be a lot more appetite in the senate this year fofo reforms to the dot and because of that, i think there's a very high prospect of getting a bill out relatively quickly and back over to the house." still, a possible gas tax it's been that way for nearly 30 between their proposals and would the governor sign a bill that doesn't meet the exact criteria she laid out last year. reporting at the state house, i'm caroline patrickis, wis news 10. we can expect to see how much lawmakers will be spending on schools the week of february 15th. that's when we may see the first

budget that will take effect july 1st. a recall is in effect today for a children's cough medicine that can be found at a number of stores nationwide. the perrigo company is recalling five combined batches of it's cherry and grape guaifenesin medicine-- because some packages contain a dosing cup with incorrect dosage markings. the medicine can be found at places like rite- aid, kroger and cvs. both are sold in 4 oz bottles. if you have this in your cabinet--make sure you discard both the dosing cup and the product. you can find the exact lot numbers and expiration dates impacted by the recall on our website, wis-tv-dot-com. tonight richland county leaders are expected to address some big changes for the county's penny sales tax program. councilman seth rose has proposed a three-point plan in the wake of a department of revenue report raising questions about fraud and public corruption. under rose's proposal the county

purchase ordinance. the proposal would also shift funding for hiring small local businesses to the county's general fund. state revenue investigators say the current method has allowed penny tax money to be used illegally for non-transportation projects. also tonight county councilman jim manningwill introduce a measure that would strengthen the penalties against people who leave pets in hot or cold unattended cars. right now, manning says there are some ordinances like that, but he says they're too broad and too open to interpretation. manning's motion would also authorize police to break into a car and rescue a suffering pet if the owner of the car can't be found. new at noon... a former berkeley county sheriff was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to d-u-i and failure to comply with police after a 2014 drunk driving arrest. wayne dewitt was sentenced to three years probation and 60 hours of community service. in december of 20-14 dewitt was arrested on counts of leaving an accident scene, failure to stop for blue lights and dui. the former sheriff resigned

and a half after the incident. four people are facing charges in connection to an armed robbery in columbia. police have arrested deonte benjamin for the robbery that happened at the walmart on forest drive on december 26th. cpd says a man was robbed at gunpoint while he was trying to get into his car. no one was physically hurt during the robbery. mary mcmarva and erika dickerson areelso being charged with accessory after the crime. another 15-year-old juvenile is being charged in the case as well. new court records reveal federal agents found two loaded, semi-automatic pistols from a georgia apartment after the arrests of two people suspected in a spree of jewelry store robberies across the southeast. 24-year-old abigail lee kemp an 35-year-old lewis jones the third are accused of robbing half a dozen stores in north and south carolina, georgia, florida, and kemp made her first appearance in federal court monday.

with tourist. n-b-c's richard engel has more. :42-:49 :58-1:05 there's not a tourist in the world who's been to istanbul and does not know this spot. ten-thirty this morning, he came out of the mosque and heard an explosion, rushed over saw bodies on the ground, people were screaming. the tour groups that were here, the school groups that were here began to leave the scene. the tourists went back to ththr hotels, sheltered inside. the restaurants in this area, the cater to the tourists, they all closed their doors. people inside as police came and tried to search the area set up a cordon. great fight in the desert against the legendary alabama crimson tide. unfortunately they couldn't avoid two knockout punches delivered by the alabama special teams. fourth quarter....alabama has tied the score at 24 with a field goal. alabama gambles with an on-side kick....the crimson tide cash in recovering at the 50. two plays later...jake coker connects with o.j. howard...bama leads by seven. dabo swinney "great play by them, it was a great kick he put it in a great spot and did a great job going to get it. but then we followed it up with a bust for a touchdown. so it was kind of a combination of mistakes." then after clemson pulls to within four with a field goal.....bama pulls away when kenyan drake takes the kickoff back 95 yards to give the tide an 11 point lead. that cushion allows them to survive a clemson offensive attack that put up 550 yards and 40 points. the tigers know bama's big special team plays

that was the scene at hickory tavern in the vista. clemson fans who are part of the columbia clemson club showed up to watch. a handful of loud and proud bama fans did too. "clemson's a really good team. there's nothing to take away from that. you've got two really good teams here. it's not about the conferences. this is about two good teams, and alabama turned out to be the better team." cincinnati zoo is no different. the zoo named a baby penguin "bowie" days before the singer's death. the fairy penguin was born on david bowie's birthday, january eighth, weighing less than two ounces.
