the developer behind a big proposed project in west columbia is offering more particulars and may be winning some people over. tonight, neighbors hosted the developer of f e planned "brookland" project ahead of a crucial vote that could decide the project's future. our chad mills was there. last week, that vote was delayed until wednesday the 20th, since council and the public still had so many questions about the proposed mixed-use development. they wanted more specifics too. tonight, the developer tried to answer that request. this meeting was all about answering questions and clearing up bad rumors about a potential mixed-use development in west columbia, just over the gervais street bridge, that would feature homes for sale and for rent, specialty

cafes and eateries, offices, and community spaces. but this meeting, with the proposed project's developer, also helped win over some confidence from people like jeanne brutschy. "from what i've seen tonight, i think it's a beautiful plan, so i think they alleviated a lot of concerns by showing that this evening." last week, the project, known as brookland, heard comment-after- comment of criticism at a council meeting, and it was enough criticism to delay a final vote on rezoning this land for the potential development. as a result, this meeting and q-and-a session with the developer, estates & companies. children's education, part of the improvement is where they spend most of their day, and that's in a school, and we want that school to be safe, and we want them to feel good about it, and we want them to feel worthy." haley also proposed a plan to let future governors appoint their education superintendents, instead of the superintendent being elected. if that plan is passed, the first appointment would happen in 2019. south carolina's top prosecutor is hoping for better rules to keep state lawmakers flying straight. the general assembly's second regular session started yesterday, and attorney general alan wilson says there's still a lot to get done in terms of roads and education. but wilson hopes ethics reform will finally get over the hump at the state house. he's hoping for some judicial reform too that would give the governor some say in appointing judges.
