check out this video from boone... this is how it looked 24 hours ago as snow came down and wind whipped during the earlier part of the day. the mountains were hit the hardest by this winter storm. some spots saw snow piles as high as two feet. snow is not the only issue that came about after the blizzard hit parts of new jersey. a rising tide and eroding coast has brought severe flooding to the area. for some homeowner, the water was nearly 20 inches high inside their homes. some homeowners in the area said they just finished rebuilding their houses after the devastating floods of hurricane sandy and now, have to do it again. new york's governor has lifted a travel ban that was put in place during the massive snowstorm. andrew cuomo made the announcement this morning. the governor says full service to the above- ground portions of the metro-north, long island

systems will be restored gradually, as equipment and crews are put into position. buses, subway and regional railroad services should be restored sometime today. baltimore officials have also lifted their travel ban. millions of people in cities and towns along the east coast will start to clean-up this morning. the storm left several people dead.....and thousands of travelers stranded. nbc's jennifer johnson has our story from washington. the first blizzard of 2016 has slowly died down.....after burying major east coast cities in as much as three feet of snow. the storm shut down air...rail...and highway travel. now comes the recovery part....getting roads passable again. that's keith howard's job. leading deputies on a chase in northeast richland county sheriff's say they responded to a call about an aggravated assault at camrose court just after 11 saturday. when deputies arrived they say akeem breeland fired several shots at them, hitting a patrol vehicle. breeland then ran into the woods, but was quickly caught by police. breeland is charged with attempted murder, unlawful carry of a handgun, and unlawful use of a handgun during the commission of a violent crime. deputies are also investigating a shooting that happened early this morning in richland county. at a party on foxhunt road around 12:30, when they were approached by several people. one of the suspect fired multiple rounds at both victims. deputies say the two teenager were shot multiple times in the lower body. they were taken to the hospital for treatment. if you know anything about this shooting, call

in a developing story, a coastal carolina university student was found dead in his dorm room yesterday morning. the student has been identified as brandon scott, a junior arts major from the north charleston area. sled has been investigating the scene, and an autopsy will be performed later today to determine the cause of death. the deputy coroner says he does not suspect foul play the mother of a six year old girl, killed in a crash last weekend, has been charged. 29-year-old tiffany brown is facing several charges including felony dui resulting in death and child endangerment. troopers say brown was under the influence when she caused a crash that killed her young daughter and injured two other people. according to the 'times and democrat,' two of brown's other children were in the car at the time. brown bonded out of jail and is now able to attend her daughter's funeral next week.

a week ago has turned herself in. 27-year-old shardae davis has been charged with two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child. last week, officers responded to her home after neighbors called 9- 1-1. that's when davis took off, leaving her two small children alone. police say davis was reluctant to come forward because of an outstanding shoplifting warrant out of horry county. sumter police are still looking for herbert butler on a domestic violence warrant from a previous incident. initially, police believed butler had information on davis' disappearance. if you know where butler is, call crimestoppers, 1-888-crime-sc. the man columbia police say assaulted a man in five points this week, has turned himself in. 21-year-old harold jacobsen, caught on surveillance cameras near the scene, has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. police say jacobsen punched a man in the

the dancers faced several barriers at the end of last year, losing their studio on forest drive and nearly losing their artistic director to a heart attack. several performances had to be cancelled and plans had to be changed. now finished with its first performance of the year, the company's hoping for a strong 2016. "we are trying to encourage people to come and see the production and the proceeds are going to an organization...this year its the special olympics..so we're trying to combine the arts and also their need...so i think that was my goal when i started the gala that we do every year and i bring dancers from all around the world." last night's performance was supposed to include professional dancers from across the country including washington ballet's brooklyn mack... an elgin native. unfortunately, the blizzard kept all of them from making it,

the monster blizzard that hit the east coast is moving off shore, but parts of coastal new york are not out of the woods yet. scott mclean has the details from washington. 26-33 1:17-1:25 from georgia all the way up to new york, 85 million people are beginning to dig out from the massive snow storm that pounded the east coast. at least 14 deaths have been blamed on the weather. eleven governors declared states of emergency, with washington d-c under a snow emergency... this after the storm dumped up to 40-inches of snow in some parts of the east coast. today should look a little brighter: "all of the major metropolitans are out of the heaviest snow bans, washington, new york, philly and even into boston ." the bulk of the snow has blown off shore, but coastal areas of new england could still see hazardous conditions. like coastal new jersey, where a

slushy mix covered the roads thanks in part to strong winds pushing the tide in from the atlantic ocean. the storm left drivers in at least three states stranded for hours. "it's just non-stop, it don't seem like we're getting anywhere to be honest" "this is horrible, we've been stuck in the truck for 13 and a half hours. " in new york, a travel ban gave crews a chance to get roads clear of snow. the storm hit the city harder than anticipated. central park saw its third largest snowfall, with 25- inches. even rock stars were telling new yorkers to stay home. "it's supposed to go to 12, 1 o'clock in the morning, so it'll be another foot of snow, stay home. two words: hot chocolate." sixty-seven people had to be evacuated from an apartment building in manassas, virginia this morning when roofs collapsed after this weekend's heavy snow. firefighters found one roof had partially collapsed and other was showing signs of collapsing. the red cross is assisting the

shelter at a local fire department no one was hurt, according to firefighters. firefighters in maryland had to battle a big blaze during the massive snowstorm. a carpet store in suitland caught on fire saturday night, but heavy winds then spread the flames to other stores in the strip mall. part of the building later collapsed. fire crews had to walk through 20-inches of snow as they battled the fire. no one was injured. the cause of fire is still under investigation. we're now getting a first look at the man accused of shooting at deputies. richland county deputies say akeem breeland started shooting at them after they responded to a call about an aggravated assault on camrose court. breeland then ran into the woods, but was quickly caught by police. breeland is charged with attempted murder, unlawful carry of a handgun, and unlawful use of a handgun during the commission of a violent crime. a 7 point 1 magnitude earthquake

alaska early this morning, awakening residents and shaking buildings. the earthquake was widely felt by residents of anchorage, and there are reports of power outages. no word on injuries. the national weather service says a tsunami is not expected. we're now learning police in canada have charged a 17 year old boy with the deaths of four people. on saturday, the teen was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder in a mass shooting at a school and home in a remote part of western canada. police said the male suspect can't be named under canada's youth criminal justice act. he is due in court next week. s/ grant st. germaine/ rcmp supt. :07 "a 17-year-old male, who will not be named, as per the provisions of the youth criminal justice act, from la loche, has been charged." police said they were not aware of a motive and decline to say what type of gun was used.

school, including a female teacher's aide who died at the scene and a male teacher who died in a hospital. authorities said seven people wounded in friday's shooting at the school are hospitalized. police said two brothers, ages 17 and 13, were shot dead in a home before the gunman headed to the la loch community school. a convicted murderer serving life in prison appears to be living it up online. for shooting and killing a man on christmas day in 2011. now, the victim's sister, chiquita mushat, cannot believe that her brother's killer has been live streaming from inside an alabama prison, communicating freely with the outside world. using the name premo williamson, devin williamson went live for days on periscope, gathering more than 3,000 followers and asking viewers to send money. s/ chiquita mushat, victim's sister :11

state of the state address wednesday night that she is standing firm. haley sot: "i will not sign any piece of legislation that raises taxes not in year one, not in year five, not in year ten. i will not sign any piece of legislation that does not include real reform to the department of transportation the days of horse-trading south carolina roads have to end. and i will not buy into the idea that we somehow cannot afford to cut income taxes for our people." the governor's plan includes raising the gas tax by a dime, but lowering the state's tax rate significantly, using up to a billion dollars in new revenue already flowing into the state. in 2015, lawmakers argued the governor's plan wouldn't raise enough money. dueling plans in the general assembly called for gas tax hikes ranging from 10-12 cents. those plans also included increasing fees for driver's licenses and sales taxes on vehicles. in the end, nothing passed. haley sot: "pass legislation that cuts our taxes, reforms our flawed

"you will not get a better man out there." today -- heather is healthy and chris' liver has totally regenerated... as they share their story about organ donation. a gift of life... and for heather... someone to spend that life with. joe fryer, nbc news. packaged salads produced at a dole facility in ohio are linked to at least one death caused by a listeria outbreak. the center for disease control says one person died in michigan and at least 12 people across six states have been hospitalized with listeria symptoms. officials say the infected salads were called dole, fresh selections, simple truth, marketside, the little salad bar, and president's choice. a house panel says state law should specify it's illegal to sell fetal tissue, and that donating tissue requires a woman's written consent, though there's no evidence either is occurring in south carolina.
