is taking place at night on the road itself and there is still work to do on the shoulder in both directions. once shoulder-work is done, thompson says all lanes will be open to use. crews are widening i-26 from 4-lanes to 6-lanes from i-77 toward charleston for about 10 miles, and then from there to orangeburg the road will be resurfaced. right now, if you're traveling on i-26 west bound, crews have opened up all three of those lanes to use. more than 60-thousand cars drive on this stretch of road every day -- a reason scdot decided, three yeararago, to widen and resurface. allen thompson: "we've been working hard on this project for three years and we're looking forward to it being complete. we're looking forward to giving it to the public so they can have all the lanes and utilize all of the lanes. we're aware of that every day and we can't wait to have all the lanes open so the public can use it." at this point, crews are just waiting on the weather to get warmer so they can lay the final layers of asphalt. if the weather cooperates, thompson says the project should be complete in april or may.

35-year-old adeyemi hannibal died after he was shot at the "next up barber and beauty" last friday. police say two of the victims got out their own guns and shot at the robbers. the coroner says hannibal died at the hospital. police say one other man, who has not been identified, is still on the run. a 2nd "guilty" verdict has been delivered for two men arrested on federal gambling charges. jack parker and doug taylor will soon be sentenced after being convicted for a second time yesterday. their first convictions in 2013 were overturned. the case came to light following the investigation into the 2012 murders of tammy parker and bryan capnerhurst. parker's son brett was convicted on two counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison. prosecutors said brett, jack, tammie, bryan and several others all had involvement in sports betting businesses. columbia mayor steve benjamin is calling for a new and improved city in the new year. benjamin set a positive t te

hardships in his annual state of the city address last night. the mayor called for rebuilding after the flood in innovative ways. he also voiced support of fiscal responsibility and addressed a state supreme court ruling that found the city was improperly transferring money from its water and sewer fund to other departments. "we've cut over $3.4 million in transfers from our water and sewer fund and invested over $420 million in maintenance and improvement to our water and sewer infrastructure." he also talked about his goal of making the city shelter a no-kill one. and he made the call for more police officers and honored the columbia police department for adopting body cameras. a bill making its way through the state house aims to specify rights to film or photograph police. the measure was approved by the senate judiciary committee. the bill is in response to the shooting death of walter scott by a north charleston police officer, which was caught on camera by a bystander. although in most cases people have the right to

proposal protects bystanders from arrest or intimidation if they're filming from a public place. senators are also hoping to cut down the length of the legislative session. a bill to shorten session by one month was unanimously approved by the senate judiciary committee. instead of adjourning in june, the proposal calls for session to end in may. the bill would also require the house and senate to write their budget plans from the same revenue estimates. leaders from south carolina state university are asking the state to "write off" millions of dollars to help the school fix its finances. school officials told the house ways and means committee they need 128 million dollars. in 2014, the blue ribbon advisory committee loaned sc state the money. officials want the state to forgive the debt so the university will be in good standing with southern association of colleges and schools. board members say they will next discuss searching for a new school president. a job fair to help usc students and alumni
