highway patrol troopers say an suv ran off the road, hit a tree and overturned. the identity of the victim has not yet been released. investigators in anderson county say a teenager may have killed himself after a botched drug deal. authorities say 17-year- old bailey lloyd died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. saturday afternoon -- deputies were called to a shooting at a home on old williamston road. when they arrived, deputies say they found two teens trying to leave the scene. one was taken into custody while lloyd ran into the home. that's where deputies believe lloyd took his own life. an autopsy is scheduled for today. no charges have been filed. across south carolina, faith leaders are putting out a call to end gun violence. many churches took part in 'stand up sunday' to honor the victims of the charleston church shooting. a cross bearing the names of the 'mother emanuel 9' marked the entrance to the sanctuary at 'washington street united methodist church' in downtown columbia. 'stand up sunday' was also about encouraging dialogue on strengthening gun regulations in america.

good morning. thanks for waking up with sunrise. i'm mary king. i'm len kiese. it's five o'clock on this monday, february first. it is a big day in the decision 2016 race for president. the presidential nomination process officially begins today with iowa holding its first-in- the-nation caucuses. 2016 candidates will spend the day rallying supporters across iowa. 30 delegates are up for grabs in the gop race. 44 delegates in the democratic race plus an additional 8 super delegates. despite iowa offering only a small contingent of the delegates who will determine the presidential nominees -- a win for candidates would greatly increase momentum leading into the new hampshire and south carolina primaries. "you haven't had a winner in iowa in 16 years. we're gonna have a winner, you better believe it. you're gonna have a winner this time!"

underway in a matter of hours. but you may be wondering -- what a caucus is and why it's such a big deal for early races. our michal higdon is live in the newsroom to explain. the iowa caucuses are the first set of votes officially for a candidate. caucus goers will gather this evening in schools, libraries and community centers across the state. at each of the 1,700 gop caucuses -- representatives from the presidential campaigns will have an opportunity to deliver speeches. then caucus goers cast ballots, usually on paper, which are reported to the state party. on the democratic side -- the process is a little more intricate. attendees at the almost 17-hundred caucuses must stand in groups representing each candidate. if supporters of a candidate don't meet a certain threshold of support set at the beginning of the evening, they would be forced to realign themselves with another candidate. only after candidates under the viability threshold are weeded out from each caucus, do the totals get reported to the iowa democratic party. jaime harrison: "when you look

lexington, kentucky has had in the last 30 years. crews worked on sunday afternoon to gain control of that three-alarm fire. six businesses were destroyed. 20 cows reportedly died in the blaze. no other injuries have been reported. witnesses say they heard explosions near the area. soon after, they say surrounding counties were covered with dark smoke. a crippled cargo ship that has been drifing for several days off the french coast could run aground if a new salvage attempt fails. the ship has been leaning to the side and rough seas have prevented a salvage attempt. the ship is expected to be towed today, when forecasters say the weather will be calm. its crew was evacuated by helicopter last week. officials believe its cargo may have shifted in heavy seas, causing it to lean to one side. a group of drivers in california

santorum won in 2012. on the democratic side, president obama won in 2008 and 2012. but the iowa caucuses vote tonight will be indicative of likely candidates who will remain the race. matt moore with the south carolina republican party says the iowa race is like a filter process. after new hampshire -- the south carolina primary becomes the big test with several hundred thousand people casting their vote. matt moore: "i think our primary will be very pivotol regarding what happens on march the first, which is just a week later when all the southern states vote. so south carolina will be a carolina to be that decisive voice to determine who is going to be the next nominee." south carolinians will cast their vote in a matter of weeks. and we're getting our first look at likely primary votes here...

donald trump leading the republican race at 36 percent. with ted cruz following at 20 percent. on the democratic side -- hillary clinton is the clear favorite with 64 percent. and bernie sanders is polling at 27 percent. those voting in the republican primary will go to the polls on february 20th. and the democratic primary will higdon, wis news 10. a new poll shows bernie sanders and donald trump are way ahead of the pack in primary races in new hampshire. that's according to cnn and w-m-u-r. the poll shows sanders with 54 percent support among likely voters, compared to 34 percent for hillary clinton. on the republican side, trump leads with 30 percent support. ted cruz is second with 12 percent, followed by marco rubio at 11 percent. they are closely followed by john kasich, chris christie and jeb bush. new hampshire holds its primaries on february

democratic candidates get underway in a matter of hours. but you may be wondering -- what a caucus is and why it's such a big deal for early races. our michal higdon is live in the newsroom to explain. the iowa caucuses are the first set of votes officially for a candidate. caucus goers will gather this evening in schools, libraries and community centers across the state. at each of the 1,700 gop caucuses -- representatives from the presidenenal campaigns will have an opportunity to deliver speeches. then caucus goers cast ballots, usually on paper, which are reported to the state party. on the democratic side -- the process is a little more intricate. attendees at the almost 17-hundred caucuses must stand in groups representing each candidate. if supporters of a candidate

certain threshold of support set at the beginning of the evening, they would be forced to realign themselves with another candidate. only after candidates under the viability threshold are weeded out from each caucus, do the totals get reported to the iowa democratic party. jaime harrison: "when you look at the grand total of people who participate in caucuses compared to primaries, it's night and day. who wins or gets second or third but who can meet expectations." the outcome of the iowa caucuses often foreshadow which coming up in the next half hour i'll have the details on how thousands of south carolinians plan to get a jump start on voting before primary days in the coming weeks. chris whitmire with the south

attack on a nigerian village... the attack was carried out by nigeria's homegrown militant group - boko haram. a soldier at the scene said gunmen riding motorcycles raided the village overnight. the attack continued when three female suicide bombers struck people who fled to a neighboring village. officials say 46 people including children were killed. one witness said the nighttime attack lasted 4 hours. heading into today's iowa caucuses, hillary more questions about her e-mail scandal. but she says, it's the same old story. confirmed that some of the emails found on clinton's personal server from her days as secretary of state fell under the highest level of classification -- top secret. but, clinton says the attacks

police have arrested 19 year olds trevonte watts and william newton. a 15-year old girl has also been arrested. the teens are facing several charges, including murder. investigators say the incident started as a drug deal, but turned into an armed robbery that ended in a shootout. two other teens were hospitalized with gunshot wounds. police say more arrests are possible. richland county sheriff leon lott is expected to hold a news conference today to release more information on a 19-year- old columbia woman whose body was found on friday. deputies say deanndra roach was discovered in a field off farrow road in blythewood. the victim's ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old andre heatley jr. is now in jail, charged with murder and armed robbery. investigators believe heatley shot and killed roach, then stole her debit card using it three times right after the murder. an autopsy is scheduled today for an upstate teenager who investigators say may have killed himself after a drug deal gone wrong. authorities say 17-year- old bailey lloyd died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

right now in the wis alert center... world health leaders are holding an emergency meeting today to discuss the explosive spread of the "zika" virus. the disease has been spreading quickly through the americas. the world health organization warns there could be as many as four million new infections this year. the meeting is taking place for officials to decide whether to declare a global emergency. one official says there could be a vaccine available by the end of the year. health officials say as of sunday, 25 people have been tested for zika virus in south carolina as a precaution because of their recent travcels. dhec announced the first three patients to be tested on friday. dhec says the chances of getting zika virus in south carolina are

cuba says it's launching its first broadband home internet service, a potentially major step forward in bringing the island online. a state telecommunications company says it'll allow cubans to order home service through fiber optic connections operated with a chinese telecom firm. the new service is a pilot project and prices will be announced in the future. a french maritime official says a crippled cargo ship that has been drifting for several days off the french coast could run aground if a new salvage attempt fails. rough seas have thwarted attempts so far, but officials say they'll try again today to tow the ship to port. the ship has been drifting since the crew was evacuated by helicopter last week. it's believed the ships cargo shifted, causing it to lean on its side. a strong winter storm caused a big accident on a california highway. 29 vehicles were involved, including two semi-trucks. the incident shut down multiple lanes on interstate 80 sunday. officials believe snowy conditions played a factor.
