we've already dealt with pop up showers throughout the midlands as we take a look through the wis skycam. this afternoon we are preparing for thunderstorms ahead of a strong cold front. meteorologist ben tanner is tracking the latest from the rst alert weather center. we are in first alert mode as strong cold front will move through the state today, ahead of the front we'll see showers and thunderstorms with a few storms reaching severe limits. the greatest threat would be damaging winds within a few cells. much cooler air will move in behind the front . another chance of rain may move into the midlands by sunday as low looks to form off the coast late saturday into sunday. today, scattered morning shows, breezy and mild as we start out in the e60s. warm and windy by midday with scattered showers and thunderstorms, some heavy rain possible. highs lower 70s, rain chance 100%. the timing of today's rain is best from 11am 6pm. few showers for thursday then

disruptive weather with the wis weather app. you can find it for free just search in your app store. you can also text the word "weather" to 80310. messaging and data rates apply. new information on a sexual assault case in columbia-- columbia police say this man, 21-year-old carlos hernandez, turned himself in this morning at police headquarters. he's now charged with first degree criminal sexual assault and kidnapping. police say a woman reported bebeg sexually assaulted in the 800 block of barnwell street early saturday morning. hernandez remains in the alvin at this hour -- authorities in kershaw county believe they have the man behind several break-ins in the town of bethune over the last month. 22-year-old jeremy rashad woodall was arrested this morning...just days after deputies say he broke into bethune elementary school. that's where we find our mike desumma, live. mike. well len not only do authorities

was behind that break in -- but they believe he was here on site again just hours before his arrest. deputies with the kershaw county sheriffs office reported seeing a man with a flashlight here near the school grounds at around 4am. that suspect was tracked with k9s leading police right to woodalls door. the break in itself came at the school on monday night according to the bethune police dept. authorities say a safe was taken from the building. that was just the most recent burglary case to hit the town over the past month. since the beginning of the year 7 locations -- most businesses on main street -- have been targeted by thieves. police say there were also several attempted break ins -- and right now they believe woodall is also connected to several of those prior cases. to investigate saying they don't believe woodall acted alone in the break ins. as a precaution the kershaw county school district implemented a small scale lockdown here at the elementary school this morning while police investigated. no one except police and school staff were allowed to go in. woodall from what were told has served time for burglary in the past and he likely will face several charges connected to this recent spree. live in bethune at this hour mike desumma wis news 10. some parents and kershaw county school board members are not seeing eye-to-eye on the possibility of combining two area schools. as michal higdon reports...the hope from many parents, is that the district will change course. :01 :22 :39 :47 :51 :58 overwhelming response from parents at last night's meeting ultimately lead to the kershaw county school board's decision to postpone discussion on the location of a consolidated mt. pisgah or bethune elementary schools close -- if it means students will have to move to a consolidated campus in a different location. not only are parents concerned about their children possibly having a longer bus ride to a say losing their high school and middle school in the past couple of decades -- makes them more concerned about the school consolidation. betty tidwell: "we want to keep

bethune. it's a small community. it's not just a school, we're part of a town." mary anne byrd: "we are mindful that when we make a decision to locate a school, that impacts the community." suzanne gordon: "if there's not a good school how are we ever realtor. she fears if bethune elementary leaves the town, the value of properties will go down as much as 30 percent. the kershaw county school board will be bringing up this subject again at it's next meeting in two weeks. if they agree on where to locate the new school, the board has to vote to put the project on a referendum -- and reporting in kershaw county, michal higdon, wis news 10. right now, college football teams and fans from across the nation are waiting to find out which high school seniors will officially join their teams because it's national signing day. already today many high school

already signed scholarship offers with the college of their choice. the nation's top prospect is rashan gary, a defensive lineman from new jersey. he'll pick between clemson and michigan. if he goes with the tigers, that means clemson will land three of the country's top 10 players. one of the big names of the gamecocks 2016 class is already enrolled in school. quarterback brandon mcilwain of pennsylvania is a four star prospect. he graduated from high school early, arrived on campus in january and is practicing with the baseball team. he's a two sport star. our sports team will be covering signings around the state today. they'll have reaction from usc head coach will muschamp and clemson head coach dabo swinney in our later newscast. rand paul announced just this morning that he is dropping out of the race for the white house. the kentucky senator is suspending his campaign for the republican nomination. in a statement, senator paul says "it's been an incredible honor to run a principled campaign for the white house. today, i will end where i began,

live coverage of the primary. and then it's south carolina's turn. the republican primary is saturday, february 20th. the democratic primary follows a week later on the 27th. forrr president bill clinton is spending some time in columbia today. he's meeting with democratic leaders at the state house before speaking at a "fighting for us" rally at allen university this afternoon. along with campaigning for his wife hillary....clinton is expected to talk about schools, roads and gun violence. doors open at 4 and the rally starts at 6. coming off of his win in the gop iowa caucus, presidential candidate ted cruz spoke to a packed house of supporters in greenville last night. cruz said the victory he achieved in iowa can happen in south carolina. he says his campaign has 85-hundred volunteers ready to gather the support of south carolinians. after his rally in greenville, cruz left for new hampshire where he plans to continue his campaign up until the state's primary next tuesday. and cruz is getting another%

shooting in december. ricardo dargan was originally charged with attempted murder after 40-year-old david clea was shot. clea was treated for his injuries and released. but two weeks later, he returned to the hospital where he died sunday. dargan is now charged with murder. he's been held at the sumter-lee regional detention center since his december arrest. meanwhile, sumter county investigators need help finding another suspect in a shooting and robbery case. 22-year-old trey moore reportedly approached a couple in a car and robbed them tuesday afternoon. it took place outside a convenience store on south guignard drive. a man inside the car was shot..but is expected to be okay. if you have any information to help investigators, call crimestoppers at 1-888- crime-sc. a judge has consolidated two lawsuits filed after a clemson university student was found dead in lake hartwell. the judge says consolidating the
