a shooting in hopkins last night. the richland county sheriff's department says it happened around 8 o'clock last night. and the person shot was a passenger inside a white honda found at the scene with the back windshield shattered. we're working to find out the latest on the victim's condition...and we'll have a live report on this developing story coming up on sunrise at 5 am. meanwhile, if you have information on this shooting -- call crimestoppers at 1-888- crime-sc. the family of a columbia man shot and killed more than 6 months ago may finally have some justice. columbia police have arrested and charged a man for the murder of 32- year-old timothy gentry. he was killed on beaufort street back in july. police say investigators were able to trace a

by the suspect, ibin patterson, to gentry's murder. investigators say the connection was made as part of a collaborative effort between multiple agencies. a man remains in jail this morning in connection to the murder of a midlands motorcyclist. last month, investigators found adrian silva, who they say was shot multiple times while riding his motorcycle on long green parkway in columbia. richland county deputies say vincent may is now charged with obstruction of justice in the case. may was given a 25 thousand dollar surety bond. he's also been ordered not to have contact with the victim's family and must wear a gps monitoring device. last night, the two remaining democrats running for president were in a one-on-one political face-off...just five days out from the new hampshire primary. the debate followed a new poll that found bernie sanders with a sizeable lead over hillary clinton in the state. steve handelsman has the highlights. two democrats, two strategies...

enforcement agencies "not" to release dashcam video to the public. martin says it would instill more confidence in police decisions. the bill would prevent police from indefinitely blocking the public's ability to see dascham video--unless a judge agrees that releasing the video would cause harm. as millions gather this sunday to watch the panthers and broncos battle it out in the super bowl...a group of usc students will be paying close attention to the ads. yesterday the usc journalism school's "super bowl of advertising" class made their final preparations before they make their critiques. students in the class will choose their favorite commercial, based on things like likability, persuasiveness and brand identity. the winning ad on sunday will receive the annual "cocky award" given by the class. if you see a number of people wearing red today... it's not that valentine's day has come early... although it is a matter of the heart.. the american heart association has declared today "national wear red day" to raise women's awareness of their heart health.

women are so good at running businesses and running households... that sometimes... they neglect to do the things they need to do to keep their own bodies running... that's why the american heart association is targeting women in its effort to raise awareness for heart disease. "women often put themselves last.. and when we look at the statistics that heart disease is the number one killer of all women - women need to put themselves first." research has shown women are far more likely to call for and recently -- a study from the cleveland clinic found women are considerably more likely than men to let obligations to work, family and friends disrupt their exercise routine.. in addition to family history, smoking and diabetes... a woman's heart disease risk increases with high blood pressure during pregnancy ... gestational diabetes.... and depression. "we also know that women suffer from depression two-fold as often as men, and it

heart disease by as much as 50%." signs of a heart attack in women can be subtle - and don't always involve chest pain. other symptoms include shortness of breath... pain the jaw and back... extreme fatigue... and nausea. we all remember the horrific night last summer when we learned nine people were murdered during a bible study at mother r anuel ame church in charleston. two survivors -- felicia sanders and polly sheppard sat down with our billie jean shaw as they reflect on the heart- renching night of june 17th. it's a story you'll see only on 10. 232 days later- felecia sanders says it still feels like yesterday. "i go through june 17th all day, all night. i think about what i could've done differently, what could we have said differently y anything." it was on that night at mother emanuel- sanders, her 11-year-old granddaughter and polly sheppard witnessed nine murders. "77 shots. it actually sounded like a transformer blew, but then she yelled and

"i kept praying under the table, the lord kept me calm." "after i heard the shots, i thought he would've shot and run out, i didn't know it would've kept on going." behind the trigger authorities say was 21- year-old dylann roof. motivated by hate and racism, prosecutors say roof was on a mission to start a race war. "we were so nice to him, we were so nice to him "i don't know what i was expecting, i was just waiting on my turn." on that night, these nine people lost their lives, among the dead were two of sander's relatives. she watched her son, 26- year-old tywanza sanders die while protecting her 85-year-old aunt susie jackson. graphic of nine victims "he told dylann roof you don't have to do this, you

you doing this?" "he took the attention off of us, the attention was in on him, so that's how he saved us." "i never thought that in my wildest nightmare that i would lose my child, my friends, at bible study. that's the part i can't get past." two days after the shooting, roof appeared in court for a bond hearing. it was there sanders was able to confront the man who changed her life forever. "tywanza was my hero, but as we say in the bible study. we enjoyed you, but may god have mercy on who changed her life forever. "forgiveness is a relief. dylann roof doesn't care if i forgive him or to, forgiveness is for me it's not for him. > the shooting here at mother emanuel has led to the removal of the confederate flag from the state house, a call for more gun control laws and conversations on race relations. sanders and sheppard say they are thankful their family and friends did not die in vain. strong faith is what the survivor's pray the nation gets out of this tragedy. "we're beginning to talk now to each other as individuals, different people with different feelings." however, there's one question that sheppard and sanders say they deal with everyday. "why did you pick me, why did you leave me? i keep wondering. we've been at death's door. everything is different- certain noises scare them and they now have to attend therapy. we also talked about the third survivor in the church that night. sanders says her 11- year-old granddaughter is doing her best to get back to living a normal life. they're now preparing to face dylann roof in court in july. we'll be right back.

back to our top story this morning... richland deputies still looking for answers in a shooting that sent a male victim to the hospital. our michal higdon is live in hopkins this morning with the latest -- michal? richland county deputies were here late into the night gathering evidence and trying to figure out exactly what happened here at the green lakes subdivision. here's what we know so far. the richland county sheriff's department says it received a "shots fired" call around 8 o'clock last night at jadetree and auburn leaf drive. when deputies arrived they found a shooting victim who was the passenger

honda civic which had the back windshield shattered. all deputies are telling us right now is the victim's wounds were to his upper body. he was taken to a local hospital, where his condition is unknown for now. at one point last night, an investigator took a young man into his patrol for an interview. neighbors tell wis they believe that young man may have been the driver of the car -- but we're still looking to learn more on that. neighbors also say multiple gunshots were heard in the eastern portion of if you have information on this shooting -- call sure to bring that to you on air, online and on your phone with the wis mobile app. new this morning... an investigation of a deadly

new this morning... an investigation of a deadly crash that killed a pedestrian in orangeburg county. the highway patrol says it the road. that victim died on the scene. we'll be following up with the just into the wis alert center this morning a un human rights panel has ruled "wikileaks" founder julian assange should be freed and entitled to compensation. this comes as the un group p nds this morning that he has been "arbitrarily detained" by being forced to into the ecuadorian embassy in london to avoid arrest. assange is wanted in sweden over allegations of sexual assault. assage said he fears sweden will extradite him to the u.s where he could face the death penalty for revealing government secrets. it has literally become the golden ticket. as we get closer to kickoff of super bowl 50 this sunday, it's going to be tough for those who want to be a part of football

greenville, north carolina police say mirra's body was found in a truck, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. he was 41 years old. mirra leaves behind a wife and two kids. rock and roll heaven has a new member. maurice white, leader of the band "earth, wind and fire" has died. white's brother made the announcement on his facebook page on thursday. maurice white was in music long before forming "earth, wind and fire." he moved to chicago during his teenage years and was a drummer at chess records, playing on songs for people like fontella bass and etta james. white was 74 years old. world leaders met in london to than 10 billion dollars in refugees. the u-s pledged 890- million this fiscal year. secretary of state john kerry said the crisis inside syria "should tear at the conscience of all civilized people." u-n agencies received money to fund schools, shelter and jobs for refugees from syria. two new york city police officers are being treated at a hospital after they were

thursday night. police say the officers were on patrol in a public housing complex when they were confronted by an armed man who shot them. one officer was hit in the face and the other in the abdomen. police say the suspect fled the scene and later shot and killed himself. the officers have reportedly only been with the nypd for two years. two soldiers from fort bliss, texas are behind bars this morning and charged with the murder of a 16-year-old boy. 25-year-old eric duvall and 20-year-old shane hall were arrested for allegedly killing michael tapia. court documents say tapia was killed in a drug-related incident back in january. tapia's body was found sunday in desert outside of el paso. duvall and hall are being held on one million dollars bond. the monthly job numbers report is expected to be released this morning. the numbers include the unemployment rate, average hourly earnings and payrolls. the u-s job market strengthened at the end of 2015, posting its second best year of job gains since 1999. colder, drier air settles in for friday and saturday with highs in the middle 50s

charged with obstruction of justice in the case. may was given a 25 thousand dollar surety bond he's also been ordered not to have contact with the victim's family and must wear a gps monitoring device. this morning in the wis alert center... honda motor company says it's recalling 5.7 million cars worldwide in the latest round of recalls involving takata air bag inflators. the total includes 440- thousand vehicles in japan and another 2.2 million in the united states. the recall expansion includes more recent car models. federal officials say takata's inflators can explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister. at least 11 people have died worldwide from the problem and 139 have been injured. it's the largest automotive recall in american history. democratic presidential hopefuls hillary clinton and bernie sanders went head to head in a fiery debate broadcasted on msnbc.

richland county deputies say one man is still in the hospital this morning after a shooting in hopkins last night. investigators were in the green lakes subdivision late into the night looking for evidence that they hope will lead to a suspect. our michal higdon is live there this morning with what we know right now -- michal?

subdivision off old leesburg road in hopkins. the big question this morning is where this shooting took place and what actually happened. and at this point in the morning the details are still limited. the richland county sheriff's department says it received a "shots fired" call around 8 o'clock last night at jadetree and auburn neighbors tell us that multiple gunshots were heard in the eastern portion of this neighborhood. but those living near the crime scene hadn't heard any, so it's possible the shooting may have happened elsewhere. when deputies arrived here, they found a shooting victim who was the passenger inside a white honda civic with the back windshield shattered. rcsd tells me this morning that the victim's wounds were to his upper body and he is still in the hospital, but his condition is unknown. at one point, an investigator took a young man into his patrol for an interview. neighbors tell me they believe that young man may have been the driver. we have followed up with richland county deputies on the investigation of this

more information soon. the richland county sheriff's department is asking if you have any information, please call crime the family of a columbia man shot to death more than six months ago may finally have some answers in the case. yesterday, columbia police announced the arrest of a man charged with murdering 32-year- old timothy gentry on beaufort street back in july. police say investigators were able to trace a weapon used in an unrelated case by the suspect, ibin patterson, to gentry's murder. investigators say the connection was made as part of a collaborative effort between multiple agencies. a man is facing charges in connection with the murder of a midlands motorcyclist. last month, investigators found adrian silva, who they say was shot multiple times while riding his motorcycle on long green parkway in columbia. yesterday, the sheriff's department said vincent may was charged with obstruction of justice in the case. may was given a 25 thousand

bond he's also been ordered not to have contact with the victim's family and must wear a gps monitoring device. a major recall to report in the alert center this morning... honda motor company says it's recalling 5.7 million cars worldwide in the latest round of recalls involving takata air bag inflators. the total includes 440- thousand vehicles in japan and another 2.2 million in the united states. federal officials say takata's inflators can explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister. at least 11 people have died worldwide from the problem and 139 have been injured. it's the largest automotive recall in american history. in their first head to head debate -- democratic presidential hopefuls hillary clinton and bernie sanders came out firing. last night's debate on msnbc was the last showdown before the new hampshire primary on tuesday, and it was perhaps the most heated debate between the two. clinton accused sanders of
